Book A European Unemployment Benefit Scheme

Download or read book A European Unemployment Benefit Scheme written by Bertelsmann Stiftung and published by Verlag Bertelsmann Stiftung. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent euro crisis and the dramatic increase of unemployment in some euro countries have triggered a renewed interest in a fiscal capacity for the European Union to stabilize the economy of its member states. One of the proposed instruments is a common European unemployment insurance. In this book Sebastian Dullien from the HTW Berlin provides and evaluates a blueprint for such a scheme. Building on lessons from the unemployment insurance in the United States of America, he outlines how a European unemployment benefit scheme could be constructed to provide significant stabilization to national business cycles, yet without strongly extending social protection in Europe. Macroeconomic stabilization effects and payment flows between countries are simulated and options, potential pitfalls and existing concerns discussed.

Book excerpt: This second volume from the Swedish Trade Union Research Institute looks at recent research on labor market policies. The question of the extent of government intervention is examined between the two extremes of the effects of unrestricted and unhampered markets on the one hand, and the old Keynesian view of benevolent governments on the other. Also discussed are general issues concerning unemployment insurance and incentives.

Book The Welfare System in Norway and Germany and the Situation for Unemployed Persons

Download or read book The Welfare System in Norway and Germany and the Situation for Unemployed Persons written by Manuel Lehmann and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, grade: C, Lillehammer University College, language: English, abstract: Even in a time as we experience now, where a lot of companies becoming bankrupt, it is more important than ever, to have a look on those people who are directly affected by the economic crisis. These are especially people who lost their job in consequence of cutbacks in manpower or bankruptcy. It is interesting to see how the European countries are working together to decrease the aftermaths of the present crisis. In this essay I will analyse in which way the German and the Norwegian Social system works, especially the facilities for unemployed people. And I will try to show the historical and organisational differences of both systems. In this reason I will give a short overview over the different "welfare regimes" in Europe first and describe how to classify them into three big groups, according to Gøsta Esping-Andersen, who worked a lot in this field of study. Afterwards I will have a look on the historical and organisational design of the social system of one of the world's richest countries - Norway. In point 3b I will describe how Norway manages the unemployment and what kind of benefits unemployed persons will get. After that, in point 4, I will examine the case of Germany, as the birthplace of the welfare state in Europe. As I divided the chapter about Norway into one historical part and one part about the benefits for unemployed persons, I did it with this part as well. At the end of this essay I will make a short conclusion, in which I will discuss the pros and cons of both systems and present, why it is so difficult to find the right balance in the level of unemployment benefits.

Book The social security system of Germany and Sweden in the area of unemployment

Download or read book The social security system of Germany and Sweden in the area of unemployment written by Claudia Liebenberg and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Politics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,3, Berlin School of Economics and Law, course: Public Management and Governance in the EU, language: English, abstract: Why does a comparison of different social security systems with in the European Union(EU) make sense? Social security systems have to change because the underlying conditions are changing: globalisation, technological innovation, the disappearance of borders in Europe and demographic development are challenges the social systems must respond to. Social systems have to adapt. But how and in what direction should they evolve: public administration or private insurance; financed through taxes or through voluntary contributions; large amount of benefit in order to ensure social peace and to streng then the consumer or low benefit to save money and to encourage selfactivity? Inorder to answer these and other questions it may be rewarding to examine the different social systems and to learn from the most successful ones.

Book The Nordic Model of Welfare

Download or read book The Nordic Model of Welfare written by Niels Finn Christiansen and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In international welfare state scholarship and political discourse the Nordic Model has become a standard concept. But how precise is the concept and to what extent do the five Nordic countries fit into this overall pattern? In this book a group of Nordic historians trace the historical origins and developments of welfare in the five Nordic countries. The aim of this book is to modify the standard concept by emphasising both the common features and the variations between them. As a work hypothesis the authors regard 'Norden' as a model with five exceptions. The articles in this book are all written by historians who have worked within the framework of a Nordic research project operating under the title 'The Nordic Welfare-Model -- a Historical Reappraisal'.
