Book excerpt: While she’s visiting Washington, DC, Princess Dominique’s life is shattered when her beloved bodyguard is murdered during an attempt to kidnap her. She can’t fathom what anyone would want with her, but whatever the reason, it is apparently worth killing for. Ethan Moore, an ex-Green Beret, knows he can’t refuse to accompany her back home when the request comes from the White House. Neither Ethan nor Dominique is happy with the arrangement, and though they just met, neither is exactly dazzled by the other. He thinks she’s stubborn and spoiled, and she finds him rude and arrogant. To make matters worse, the raging attraction between them seems to add fuel to the fire. Given Ethan’s impressive military record and Dominique’s escape from her would-be kidnappers, his superiors believe she is no longer in danger, but it isn’t long before he and Dominique discover that she is not as safe as the White House believes her to be. When her abductors track them down, Ethan and Dominique have to find a way to get along and deal with a past scandal in order to keep their wits about them and stay one step ahead of the kidnappers. Otherwise, she could be gone forever.

Book excerpt: It is important that girls grow to have a strong sense of identity and purpose rooted in Christ. "A Royal Mission" was created with that purpose in mind. Through striking illustrations and a captivating plot, girls learn about their God-given purpose, how much they are loved, and what it means to serve the King.In this children's book, the reader has the chance to become part of the story. She is asked to insert her name into the pages of the book, making her the protagonist. Her journey begins in a perfect kingdom as a beautiful princess, but she is soon interrupted by a messenger from the King's court who tells her the King wishes to see her. Upon arriving at the palace, the King tasks her with an important mission to a lost world and explains the difficulties she will encounter. The story then weaves through images of her life in the lost world, the details of her mission, and the circumstances of her return to paradise. It is only at the end that girls learn that this loving, powerful King is Jesus. The illustrated images of the King step away from the iconic images of Jesus. Little girls dream of kings, queens, and princesses in faraway lands and this book uses that to help girls understand who Jesus is. "Royal Mission", therefore, portrays Jesus as a regal and powerful King reminiscent of modern-day fairytales, but with the gospel message at its core. It is a book that captures little girls' hearts and helps them see Jesus for who He is, the King of kings. This allegorical story with striking illustrations will help budding princesses understand their role and purpose in God's overarching plan. It is beloved by children and parents alike. It is also an ideal book to introduce girls to Jesus for the first time. The book also includes discussion questions at the end to help girls make the connection between this story and the Biblical record.

Book Colonel Strutt s Daring Royal Mission

Download or read book Colonel Strutt s Daring Royal Mission written by Diana Tritton and published by Pen and Sword Military. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four Empires were extinguished by the Great War 1914-18 – the Ottoman, German, Russian and Austro-Hungarian. This is the story of the rescue of one of these Imperial families – the Habsburgs, who might well have suffered the fate of the Romanovs without the intervention of one British officer sent in secret by King George V of England. In January 1919, Lt. Colonel Edward Lisle Strutt, laden with medals and decorations, was on his way home from the Eastern Front when he was waylaid and ordered to Austria. He was irate when he learned the nature of his mission and tried to refuse. How could they ask him to give aid to the enemy he had just spend four miserable years fighting? To his great surprise he was to change his mind when he met and became enthralled by Zita Empress of Austria-Hungary. Thereafter, he was hers to command despite the danger to his life and career. Fortunately for us he kept a diary of the next three months which was lodged in the Royal archive at Windsor where it lay forgotten for the next 70 years. This is one of the great adventure stories of the Great War and Col. Strutt deserves to be better known.

Book excerpt: Where you go starts with your recognition of who you are in Christ. This book will inspire you to know who you am in Christ. It will motivate you to reach higher levels of success and satisfaction in life, family, and business. Our salvation in Christ ensures that every one of our needs or godly desires has been provided for by God. Yet many in the body of Christ are suffering and going without. Revelation is the key to developing the faith to receive the inheritance Jesus died to provide for us. One man said, “You are not suffering because there is a great devil, but because of your great ignorance.” Ignorance of our identity in Christ is one reason many Christians are not possessing their divine inheritance. As someone once said, “Your vast inheritance [in Christ] comes only in proportion to your new identity.” Our identity will influence what we become, how rich or poor we will be, how high we will climb, even how long we will live. The more revelation a person has of his new identity in Christ, the more of God’s vast promises he will be able to receive and manifest in his life and circumstances. In Revelation of Royalty, you will discover: You cannot rise any higher than your confession and revelation of royalty You are a speaking spirit and have authority over the devil and all his works

Book The Royal Prophet And Other Thoughtful Essays on the Book of Samuel

This book was released on 2012-04-09 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essays on key issues from the Book of Samuel: Why did our first kings need prophecy? Can we see the real David through the muddle of individual perspectives with which we're presented? Who took responsibility for the disastrous destruction of Nov? What did Eli's sons really do wrong? And along the way, we'll describe some general rules to guide us through the complexity of Torah study. When can one idea found in some distant part of Torah literature be applied to enhance our understanding of another? When does one of two seemingly unconnected Torah-events in fact change our understanding of the other? How, in other words, can we be more certain that we really understand what we're reading?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part anthropological history, part informed critique, Encounters examines the relations between the people of southeastern Labrador and the many visitors who have come to fish, heal the sick, and extract the region's resources. John Kennedy presents the latest archaeological, genealogical, and ethno-historical research that changes scholarly understandings of southeastern Labrador. Departing from the conventional view that coastal Labrador has distinct Inuit and non-Inuit regions, he argues that the coast should be viewed as a continuum of "Inuitness." Encounters unravels the social implications of the region's complex mercantile fishery, describes how twentieth-century military and resource development have impacted Labrador's seasonal economy, and suggests that Newfoundland continues to use Labrador as a colony. Kennedy uses field research he conducted in 2013 to describe the origins, current economies, and future challenges of the region's tiny villages. Although he is a strong supporter of Aboriginal land claims, Kennedy explores the impact of identity politics in the region, showing how land claims based solely on geography can unintentionally create inequities. Drawing on decades of field and archival research, Kennedy demonstrates how Aboriginal politics are transforming society in southeastern Labrador, empowering local people to overcome the stigmas of history and finally acknowledge their Inuit ancestry.

Book Mission in the New Testament

Download or read book Mission in the New Testament written by William J. Larkin and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive articulation of New Testament teachings on mission from a contemporary American evangelical standpoint. Mission in the New Testament contributes a fresh statement of the biblical foundations of mission, serving as a catalyst for completion of the church's universal mission in this generation. After investigating the historical background of the idea of mission in the Hebrew Scriptures, inter-testamental Judaism, the life of Jesus and the beginnings of the church, the book proceeds in a roughly canonical order through the New Testament. Essays analyze the works of Paul, the Synoptic gospels, Acts of the Apostles, the General Epistles, and the Book of Revelation. Well-versed in the historical-critical method of biblical interpretation, editors and contributors alike offer a cogent argument for recovering the "missional horizon" of the New Testament.

Book Conjugal Chastity in Pope Wojtyla

Download or read book Conjugal Chastity in Pope Wojtyla written by Ailbe M. O'Reilly and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conjugal Chastity in Pope Wojtyla explains how Karol Wojtyla, philosopher, theologian, and Pope, tried to show how the sexual act, within the context of marriage, is an expression of love. After explaining how love as goodwill is the foundation of conjugal love, the correct relationship between love and justice is clarified. The negative dimension of the personalistic norm of Wojtyla is then critically examined. Conjugal love is explained in terms of conjugal beneficience based on conjugal benevolence. This love leads to total self-giving in each conjugal act. The procreative meaning of the conjugal act seems to be its most formal element (the soul of the act, so to speak); the unitive element is described as an essential property of this act, something which necessarily flows from the conjugal act which is open to life. Chastity is the virtue that allows sexuality to be integrated into a love which is truly personal and reflects Trinitarian Love.

Book From the Royal to the Republican Body

Download or read book From the Royal to the Republican Body written by Sara E. Melzer and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this innovative volume, leading scholars examine the role of the body as a primary site of political signification in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century France. Some essays focus on the sacralization of the king's body through a gendered textual and visual rhetoric. Others show how the monarchy mastered subjects' minds by disciplining the body through dance, music, drama, art, and social rituals. The last essays in the volume focus on the unmaking of the king's body and the substitution of a new, republican body. Throughout, the authors explore how race and gender shaped the body politic under the Bourbons and during the Revolution. This compelling study expands our conception of state power and demonstrates that seemingly apolitical activities like the performing arts, dress and ritual, contribute to the state's hegemony. From the Royal to the Republican Body will be an essential resource for students and scholars of history, literature, music, dance and performance studies, gender studies, art history, and political theory.

The world's first independent air force, the Royal Air Force celebrates its centenary in 2018. In the 100 years since the end of World War I, the service has been involved in almost continuous operations around the globe, giving the RAF the longest and most wide-ranging history of any air force in the world. But over the years this history has also become entangled with myths. The Royal Air Force: A Centenary of Operations sets the record straight, dispelling these as it uncovers – in both words and photographs – the true exploits and accomplishments of RAF personnel over the last 100 years. From its formation as an independent service in the dying days of World War I, its desperate fight against the Axis air forces in World War II, to its commitments during both the Cold War and modern times, this is the complete story of how the RAF has defended Britain for a century.
