Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book is taken from words addressed to the King or Queen during their coronation service which, the author points out, plays a much more important part in the life of our nation than is generally recognized. It is not just an empty ceremony but the occasion when Divine Law is acknowledged as the source of all our law. The service reminds not only the monarch but all those assembled in Westminster Abbey (with television the audience is worldwide) of a basic tenet of the British constitution, expressed by the 13th century lawyer Bracton, that the King or Queen "must not be under man but under God and the law, for the law makes the king". The barons, in forcing King John to sign Magna Carta, were insisting that he observe this principle and his coronation oath. This principle has frequently been compared, down the ages, with the Justinian precept, "What pleases the prince has the force of law", which lies behind continental Roman law. The civil freedom we enjoy in Britain today stems from Bracton's words, which regulate all our public servants, from prime minister to police officer, and which has enabled Britain to give freedom under law to large parts of the world - whereas in Brussels, what pleases the Commissioners has the force of law. Writing after the Second World War, where Britain had been fighting to preserve the rule of law, Professor R W Chambers emphasised the importance of this principle, enshrined in our constitution and coronation service: "Upon that difference - whether or no we place Divine Law in the last resort above the law of the State - depends the whole future of the world". The book also shows that there is government behind government, with a greater purpose and permanence than the changing spectrum of party political strife. This government consists of institutions, mostly of medieval origin, the monarchy, parliament, common law, jury system, church, universities and armed forces. The powers working through these institutions, which meet in the House of Lords, are made available to the government of the day, and may be retracted if and when they are abused - as the prime minister of Australia discovered in 1975. Two appendices are included, one containing parts of the coronation service of Queen Elizabeth II, the other an Anglo-Saxon document entitled 'Institutes of Polity, Civil and Ecclesiastical'.

Book What is Reformed Theology

Download or read book What is Reformed Theology written by R. C. Sproul and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Do the Five Points of Calvinism Really Mean? Many have heard of Reformed theology, but may not be certain what it is. Some references to it have been positive, some negative. It appears to be important, and they'd like to know more about it. But they want a full, understandable explanation, not a simplistic one. What Is Reformed Theology? is an accessible introduction to beliefs that have been immensely influential in the evangelical church. In this insightful book, R. C. Sproul walks readers through the foundations of the Reformed doctrine and explains how the Reformed belief is centered on God, based on God's Word, and committed to faith in Jesus Christ. Sproul explains the five points of Reformed theology and makes plain the reality of God's amazing grace.

Book The Royal Prerogative and Constitutional Law

Download or read book The Royal Prerogative and Constitutional Law written by Noel Cox and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the royal prerogative in terms of its theory, history and application today. The work explores the development of the royal prerogative through the evolution of imperial government, and more recent structural changes in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in the Commonwealth. While examining specific prerogative powers, the development of justiciability of the prerogative, and the exercise of the prerogative, it lays bare the heart of constitutionality in the Westminster system of government. There is said to be a black hole of unaccountable authority at the heart of the constitution and it is this which this book examines. The focus is upon the constitutional development of the United Kingdom and the old dominions of Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This approach is comparative and historical, using specific case studies of such events as the dissolution of Parliament and the appointment and dismissal of Prime Ministers. The book will be of interest to academics and researchers working in the areas of Constitutional Law and Politics.

Book The Royal Law of Liberty

Download or read book The Royal Law of Liberty written by Darwin Chandler and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a frontal assault on all law based, obedience oriented religion. Most Christians carry a load of spiritual bondage, condemnation, guilt and shame. Some are deeply despondent and depressed because this load is too heavy for them to bear. Few Christians are truly confident in their personal relationship with God. This situation exists because: 1) Christians are generally unable to distinguish between actual sin versus mere human opinion about sin; 2) Christians do not understand that Jesus set them free from obedience based religion; 3) Christians do not know how to decide for themselves what is truly moral; 4) Christians have no real experience of "Christian Liberty." These issues are examined in sufficient detail to enable one to understand the radical nature of the "freedom for which Christ set us free," (Gal. 5:1). The author's goal is to destroy the roots of religious legalism so Christian believers can live the life of freedom which is their spiritual "blood-right." Beginning with a development of the "Master Key" to Biblical morality, the nature and implications of Christ's "Law of Love" are thoroughly explored. Next, the author discusses the true nature of morality, answering the question, "What exactly makes a thing sinful?" Careful attention is given to the concept of "defilement" or "uncleanness," with a bold look at Paul's revolutionary statement that "nothing is unclean of itself," (Rom. 14:14, 20). In Part Three, Legalism is exposed in all its ugliness. This section details the Biblical method for determining what is truly sin, and what is merely human opinion. Part Four destroys the bitter root of Legalism with persistent emphasis on the fact that Jesus Christ ended the rule of law by His life, death and resurrection. Part Five looks at the theology of Galatians, the Christian's "Emancipation Proclamation," closing with pointed illustration of how this all affects a Christian's liberty to exercise personal choice in what (s)he will or won't do. Five appendices explore several specific issues raised by the preceding study. These include: Conclusions About Christian Liberty "Contradictory" Scriptures? Christian Liberty and Sexual Issues The Necessity Of Experiencing Freedom The Non-Negotiables of Bible Study This is the only book on Christian Freedom written by an ex Fundamentalist. The author was raised in an atmosphere of extreme legalism. The first half of his Christian ministry was spent preaching, defending and even debating the concepts that he now seeks to destroy. The author lived in legalism forty years. He understands legalism. He therefore knows how to attack its vulnerable spots. His goal was not to write a book, but to give to anyone who is interested, information that will set them free from bondage to legalism and open the pathway to self-government under the rule of love. His fame and reputation are due to the collection of laws written under his patronage. This book offers a new interpretation of the Laws of Hammurabi. Ancient scribes would demonstrate their legal flair by composing statutes on a set of traditional cases, articulating what they deemed just and fair. God set the universe in motion with the power of His words and established the law of confession, but many believers have suffered needlessly by misunderstanding the power of their words. Dr. Bill Winston, pastor, Bible teacher, and host of the national television program Believer s Walk of Faith broadcast to over 100 million homes, reveals scriptural examples and vital teaching on the importance of the spoken word. Believers will uncover the enemy s deceptive plan to use their own words against them and what they can do to turn their situation around. 'One of the best things that ever happened to me, my family, and my church, was the revelation of the law of confession - we learned that the moment we win the battle over our words, we win the battle!' Dr. Bill Winston Controlling your words is one of the biggest challenges anyone will face in this life; the Bible reveals that the power of life and death are in the words you say. As you begin to change the words you speak, you will rewrite their future and revolutionize your life.
