Book The Royal Dukes

Download or read book The Royal Dukes written by William A. Scott and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Royal Dukes is the third and final book in the series. This divergent reflection examines the exploits of Boo the teenager as he reaches for manhood in a rapidly changing social and political environment. But unbeknownst to Boo and his doo-wop buddies in their singing group, the Royal Dukes, the political “doo-whoppers” were already plotting Ellenwood’s extinction. The Old Eastwick residential displacement plot, nay, ploy, deliberately eviscerated and enervated Ellenwood. The power and money of the freethinking doo-whoppers mulishly and maliciously exterminated my hometown. Like Corrine Sykes, they executed Ellenwood, even after a deathbed confession and acknowledgment by the City Council. Initially a majority of the Council opposed the project, but money, power, and politics won the day.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George, Vol. 2: III, a View of Court Life and Manners for Seventy Years Passing now from her childhood, we next see Princess Charlotte as an attractive young girl, wayward, easily led by kindness, and driven into obstinacy and rebellion by harsh treatment. It was thus she presented herself to an observer at her mother's house. This introduces us to a new epoch of her short life, when she was driven to act for herself and in hostility to her father while clinging as long as she could, or was allowed to do so, to her mother's cause. Book The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George III Vol 1 of 2

Download or read book The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George III Vol 1 of 2 written by Percy Fitzgerald and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George III, Vol. 1 of 2: A View of Court Life and Manners for Seventy Years, 1760-1830 Besides gathering together all the published materials laid up from innumerable volumes, many scarce or often unknown, into a regular form, I have here collected a large amount of unpublished letters, diaries, and other interesting ms. Matter. These are to be read in our National Museum, instead of, as might be expected, being kept in the archives of the Royal Family. Of these I have made due use, though, it is hoped, exercising also due discretion. To make the picture of Court life as complete, I have devoted a portion of the first volume to an account of the Royal Head of the family as he appeared in his domestic circle, and in the enjoyment of his simple and moderate recreations. This view I have been careful to open, not from the more familiar memoirs, like Mr. J case's - though Miss Burney has been drawn upon to some extent - but from the Harcourt Papers and the columns of the Court Circulars of the day. With these materials I think I may take credit for offering a picture of Court life that is not to be found elsewhere, and which will, on the whole, raise the Royal Family in public estimation. This princess, born in 1770, was one of the graver members of the royal family. Like the rest, she was affectionate to her friends and devoted to her parents, with whom she remained till her youth and prime had fled. This tardiness in providing alliances for the ladies of the family offers a curious contrast to the haste exhibited in our own times. Nor was she without a certain vivacity of description and enthusiasm, as a pleasant account of Strawberry Hill, written to her friend Lord Harcourt, shows: ..". I can never thank you enough for having persuaded Mama to go to Strawberry Hill; it was a morning passed after my own heart.... Portraits, Miniatures, Japans, enamels, china, & a thousand other beautiful things start up to claim one's attention; but of all the things I ever saw, what struck me the most, was that which I have heard you rave about, the famous Bell; which is really, in my humble opinion, the most wonderful piece of workmanship I ever saw. If my time would allow me, I could run on in raptures about everything; but I will not leave the subject without a few words concerning the owner of this curious and interesting mansion, whose pleasing manners thoroughly gained the whole company. We hope that he will not have suffered from his great civility to us; it pained me to think that we were the cause of his exerting himself as he did; but if he could know how much his attentions were felt, I am sure he would be pleased. "I wish I could be housekeeper there for a Fortnight. In case of your hearing that Lord O. is in want of one, send to such a No., in such a place, near such a street, by such a Castle, in such a Lodge, you will find a discreet, steady young woman, who bears a tolerable good...

Though she spoke English perfectly and wrote, she preferred writing her letters in French, following, no doubt, the Prussian fashion. THE DUCHESS OF YORK TO MR. RAIKES. THE DUKE OF YORK TO MR. RAIKES. Windsor, April 24, 1817. Pray accept my best thanks for your kind letter of yesterday and enquiries in consequence of my accident, from which I am recovering very favourably. Indeed I shall not be surprised if I reach the winning-post before you. At all events, I think I have the best of it, though I do not think either of us is to be envied. I was indeed much concerned to hear that you had been so ill at Paris as to have excited the commiseration of even the Persian ambassador, which from His Excellency's account of Allonby, may probably ere long be extended to him also. I hope soon to receive a better report of you. Ever yours sincerely, Frederick. The duchess was of slight frame and delicate, and, in the spring of 1820, sank under a dropsical illness, and was interred, according to her...
