Book Rooms Without Doors

Download or read book Rooms Without Doors written by Ronald A Bonnick and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometime after this, two of my children came home from school and said that their homework involved the tracing of their ancestral lineage to the farthest point. This set off my intellectual machine into forward drive. I knew all my ancestors back to the fourth generation, but with their requests, I wanted to go much further. I knew that my great-grandmothers maiden name was Barrett, and I always like to read poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, so I went to my library and looked her up but did not get anywhere, so I told them of all my great-grandparents down to them from four different angles. This satisfied the school for the homework assignment, but it did not satisfy my ego. The following week, I went to Strand Book Store on Broadway, in New York City, where my friend Mr. Bass was quite helpful. He sent me to an aged collection of books, and after one hours search, I found a book that contained the diary of Elizabeth Barrett Browning for the years 183031. I paid for it and went back to work at the bank where I worked for many years. Before I left that bank, I made sure to look at certain dates and occurrences, and bingo, I came to December 1831, during the slave rebellion in Jamaica under the leadership of Samuel Sharpe, now one of Jamaicas national heroes. When I read that her fathers estate was not destroyed, I almost went ballistic. I did not know that her father was a Jamaican, born on the hillside overlooking the city of Montego Bay in the parish of St. James. My grandfather always said to me that all the Barrett family are one, and that most of them lived in St. James and Trelawny Parishes. Those in St. Elizabeth always go to visit the other families all over the island because they always like to keep in touch from the days of slavery down to the present time. Putting everything in perspective, it was an eye-opener to me.

Book excerpt: When madness is your inheritance, how do you escape it? Scott Mast thought he got away–first from a family haunted by a dark fate, then from a dull career writing greeting cards in Seattle. But now he has come back to his New Hampshire hometown only to find that his family is in ruins, his nephew needs a home, and a shattering truth is clawing its way into the light. Fifteen years ago, Scott’s mother died in a fire. And now the shadowy circumstances–the bodies buried beneath the ashes, the lives ripped apart that fateful day–are starting to be revealed. The answers unspool in the pages of a peculiar old manuscript–an unfinished ghost story written in his father’s own hand that beckons Scott out to a strange house in the woods with a lightless corridor that cannot be seen from the outside. Here Scott Mast will uncover all that has been hidden–and perhaps finish his father’s unspeakable work.

But when her grandmother passes and leaves Ella her house, Ella discovers that the third floor corridor of keys is more than just a family pun. The seemingly-unremarkable keys don't unlock any doors in the house, but each time Ella touches one, something in her life shifts. Her life's carefully-grown roots are ripped out of their soil. Flowers bloom in the middle of a Buffalo winter. A blind date with the wrong person ends up being just maybe the right one. Her grandmother's batty twin sister turns up every day searching for something even she doesn't know how to identify, and Ella's parents refuse to return her calls. Worse, she finds trinkets from Stuart everywhere she goes, ghosts of a game they used to play. The leash she's kept on life's surprises for three years has snapped, and Ella will have to learn that the road to peace starts with letting go of control and that sometimes the best family you have is the family you build.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories of fear in all its forms, from “the leading craftsman in the literature of terror and dread” (Louisville Courier Journal & Times). You have nothing to fear but fear itself. The only trouble is, fear comes in so many different shapes and sizes these days—the rejection by a beautiful woman, the threat of impending nuclear holocaust, the erratic behavior of wackos walking the streets who only need a wrong word and there they go to the top of an apartment building with a sniperscope’d rifle. Fear is all around you, and the minute you get all the rational fears taken care of, all battened down and secure, here comes something new. Like the special fears generated in these sixteen incredible stories. Fear described as it has never been described before, by the startling imagination of Harlan Ellison, master fantasist, tour guide through the land of dreadful visions, unerring observer of human folly and supernatural diabolism.

Book Cleansing The Doors Of Perception

Download or read book Cleansing The Doors Of Perception written by Brenda Diskin and published by Brenda Diskin. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are interested in exploring the realms of the paranormal, the facts, the myths, the believers view, the skeptics view, the possibilities and the probabilities then this book is for you. The purpose of this book is to provide a record of information gathered from various sources; taking into account spiritual, scientific, skeptical and nonplus angles of perception. Besides being an interesting read for those new to the Paranormal field it is hoped that this book will be a valuable asset to the hardened Investigator in their bid to reach his or her ultimate goal; which, probably, is to prove or disprove the existence of some form of life after death. The majority of us like a good ghost story, but what makes it even better is if that ghost story is based on fact. This book covers personal accounts that were related to the author by real people. Normal, level headed people from all walks of life; the majority of them being quite skeptical until they experienced something that they could not explain. Whether you are a believer or not there are some accounts within this book that defy logical explanation. The author has added a few legends (as she believes there is always some truth attached to myths), a little documented history (to enhance some of the stories) and a few Paranormal Investigation reports.

Book Stories Seen Through Screen Doors

Download or read book Stories Seen Through Screen Doors written by Dr. Wanda Macon and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories Seen Through Screen Doors The Roots and Branches of Black Southern Experience A truth seldom recognized is that there are almost as many African American southern experiences as there are states and cities in the South. Our lives as southern black people intersect, but they also diverge into unique patterns of learning, growth, and discovery. The stories contained in this collection illustrate some of those similarities as well as the differences. Wanda Macon shares with millions of African Americans a southern soil that is rich in family, church, and racial repression, but she also highlights the spiritedness of a tomboyish young girl, too smart for her preschool age, formed by a variety of occurrences in her small southern community. "The Courts," a horseshoe shaped neighborhood and home to twenty-three families located in fictional Friarsdale, Mississippi, is the site for experience, memory, reflection, and locating one's self in the history of the geography as well as the history of family and community. By Trudier Harris, University Distinguished Research Professor Department of English, The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa, Alabama
