Book The Role of the Church in a Decaying World

Download or read book The Role of the Church in a Decaying World written by Manasseh Bewry and published by . This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Role of the Church in a Decaying World A Practical View There are many books that are written that deal exhaustively with the subject of Ecclesiology, or the Doctrine of the Church. This book is not intended to handle such matter. It is instead intended to address the Church's responsibility in today's society while maintaining its focus on its mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. It will address such matters as marriage and divorce, sexual promiscuity, wars, racism, abortion as well as a host of other socially related topics. In a society where human beings are getting less and less interested in matters of a religious nature partially due to the prevailing perceptions of the Church, the author takes a critical look at some of the things the Church must do to ensure that it is meeting its objectives of "making disciples of all nations through the gospel" while striving to improve the social condition of humanity in general. The author made no attempt to avoid controversial issues and at the end remained true to what the scripture had to say on each matter. Where scripture is not explicit, the author draws from exegesis, logics and experience in arriving at his conclusions. Rev. Dr. Manasseh L. Bewry (B.Sc., Th .M., Th .D.) is the co-founder of Bethel Deliverance Temple and is the founder of the Bethel Family Ministries (Internet and Tract Ministry). Some of his works include, Is There a Place Called Hell, To Believe or Not to Believe That is the Question, The Race to Everywhere but Anywhere and Coming to Christ Through the Truth.

Book Radical Theology and Emerging Christianity

Download or read book Radical Theology and Emerging Christianity written by Katharine Sarah Moody and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ’theological turn’ in continental philosophy and the ’turn to Paul’ in political philosophy have occasioned a return to radical theology, a tradition whose philosophical heritage can be traced to the death of God announced in the work of Nietzsche and Hegel. John D. Caputo’s deconstructive theology and Slavoj Zizek’s materialist theology are two radical theologies that explore what it might mean to pass through the death of God and to abandon this experience as specifically Christian. Radical Theology and Emerging Christianity demonstrates how these theologies are transforming everyday religious practices through an examination of the work of Peter Rollins and Kester Brewin, two figures at the radical margins of a contemporary expression of Western religiosity called emerging Christianity. The author uses her analysis of all four figures to argue that deconstructive practices can enable religious communities to become part of a wider materialist collective in which the death of God continues to resonate. Pushing the methodological boundaries of philosophy of religion by examining religious practices as the site of philosophical signification, the book challenges scholars and practitioners alike to a new and more demanding dialogue between theory and practice.

Book Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Arnold Koster

Download or read book Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Arnold Koster written by Paul Spanring and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baptists and Lutherans often define the tension of being in the world, but not in terms of two separate realms: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the world. However, their understanding of these realms and their delicate connection is quite nuanced. Within the Lutheran tradition, the two kingdoms are held in tension, which in turn leads to a precarious interaction of state and church. In the (Ana)Baptist tradition, a much stricter duality is emphasised, resulting in a more radical and separatist stance. 'Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Arnold Koster' analyses and compares the historical development of these two viewpoints, and to discover how these traditions, represented in the lives of two individual followers, responded to the ideological onslaught of neopaganism and the enforced political conformity of the Third Reich. Compared with Dietrich Bonhoeffer, little is known of the Baptist preacher Arnold Koster. His ministry as a pastor of the Baptist church in Vienna lasted from 1928-1960. During the Nazi regime, he consistently preached critically and prophetically against its underlying ideology.

Book Toward a Twenty First Century Biblical Apostolic Church

Download or read book Toward a Twenty First Century Biblical Apostolic Church written by SuYeon Yoon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-09-19 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores biblical values that critique the ecclesiology of the New Apostolic Reformation Church (NARC) and compares the ecclesiology to other missional movements in the North American context. A biblical exegesis of Ephesians 4:11-13 as well as C. Peter Wagner's conceptualization of an apostle and apostolic ministry allow the author to demonstrate the gap between the biblical perspective and Wagner's concept of an apostle. The biblical role of an apostle is to make the church missional by emphasizing the concept of sending, whereas Wagner sees the apostle as a church leader. Based upon interviews and participant observation in three NARCs, SuYeon Yoon describes the leadership and ecclesiology based on their own self-descriptions. This book then demonstrates the gap between the biblical and conceptual ideals and the reality of ecclesial practice. The author argues that the NARC serves as a charismatic manifestation of a similar cultural response to establish a relational structure for church communities that can appropriately reflect upon and identify with the contemporary context. This implies that each movement needs to be biblically sound, faithful to its conceptualization, and relevant to the context in order to cultivate its own way of being the church.

Book The Dead Living Church

Download or read book The Dead Living Church written by Isaak K. Arikawe and published by XinXii. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Dead-Living Church'' re-defines the concept of church (the true Ekklesia), her global positioning and her responsibilities according to the original intent of God. Jesus' declaration in Matthew 16, “I will build my church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it” far outweighs the theological assumptions and religious beliefs about what church is supposed to be. This book is not a product of professionalism; it is a prophetic release by the Spirit of the living God. The Church is not a denominational gathering of religious people, but the Ekklesia, the people called for an assignment, the assembly of legislating on behalf of God on earth. This book will take you through a journey. Its intent assuredly will awaken your spirit man to experience a paradigm shift from ‘Churchianity’ to that which is God’s original intention.

Download or read book Revitalize 9Marks Journal written by Jonathan Leeman and published by . This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 9Marks Journal: RevitalizeChurch planting is a great thing, and there's no need to take anything away from it. But there should also be a default setting in a Christian's heart that always longs to see dying churches revitalized. It's not like the debate in your head about whether to fork over $2000 to the mechanic to fix your clunker of a car or to just buy a new one. It's more like a decision about whether to walk away from a dear but difficult relationship. Our hearts should never want to do that, even if once in a great while we must.Start with Andy Davis' remarkable story of reforming one church, and you'll find something that feels strangely like it's from the Bible, as if Andy were only doing what the apostles did. Then let the biblical burden of Bobby Jamieson's article sit on you. I'm serious. You just might find some new light bulbs turning on. Matt Schmucker's and Mike McKinley's articles then round out the apologetic by offering crisp statements for why churches and pastors should pursue the work of revitalizing. If you are a pastor, keep reading into the next section, where Jeramie Rinne, Greg Gilbert, John Folmar, J. D. Greear, and Brian Croft offer valuable and practical wisdom on how to proceed with the work of reform.Could it be that church revitalization does not loom as large in the modern evangelical mindset as it did in Jesus' and the apostles'? Before you answer that question, if nothing else, read Bobby's article. You just might wonder if we've missed something basic.

Book Biblical Preaching and Teaching Volume 1

Download or read book Biblical Preaching and Teaching Volume 1 written by Dallas R. Burdette and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One objective of this book is to set forth the heart of God's Gospel. This volume is composed of a compilation of sermons and in-depth studies designed to strengthen and encourage Christians in their daily walk with God and with one another. Since the Cross of Christ is pivotal to a proper understanding of Christianity, numerous chapters in this book explore the "ins" and "outs" of the importance of the Cross in the lives of God's people. Not only does this book focus upon the scheme of God's redemption and evangelism as a part of every believer's ministry, it also calls attention to Christian apologetics, that is, a defense of Christianity. Three chapters are devoted to this kind of study: (1) Christianity versus Skepticism, (2) Credibility and Candor of the New Testament Writers, and (3) Paul's Conversion: Apologetic for Christianity. Also, this book allocates three chapters to the subject of baptism and its meaning to God's children. And, finally, four chapters are dedicated to a detailed study of worship within the Christian community. Dallas Burdette has been a serious student, teacher and preacher of the Bible for fifty-eight years, supporting himself for many years as an agent for AFLAC. He has written numerous articles for religious journals, as well as many essays and sermons which are available on his website (www.freedominchrist.net). He has developed a keen interest in promoting unity among God's people through a more accurate reading of the Word. He has degrees from Amridge University (formerly Southern Christian University) where he also was Director of Extended Learning for five years. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree (1999) from Erskine Theological Seminary.

Book The Decline of Established Christianity in the Western World

Download or read book The Decline of Established Christianity in the Western World written by Paul Silas Peterson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Church attendance in the West is often cited as being in decline, it is argued that this applies primarily to the older established forms of Christianity. Other expressions of the faith are, in fact, stable or even growing. This volume provides multidisciplinary interpretations of and responses to one of the most complicated and controversial issues regarding the global transformation of Christianity today: the decline of "established Christianity" in the Western world. It also addresses the future of Christianity in the West after the decline. Drawing upon historical research, sociology, religious studies, philosophy and theology, an international panel of contributors provide new theoretical frameworks for understanding this decline and offer creative suggestions for responding to it. "Established Christianity" is conceptualized as historically, culturally, socially and politically embedded religion (with or without official established status). This is a dynamic volume that gives fresh perspective on one of the great social changes taking place in the West today. As such, it will be of great interest to scholars of religious sociology, history and anthropology, as well as theologians.
