Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, grade: -, - (Makerere University Uganda Kampal), course: Masters of Education In information and Communication Technology, language: English, abstract: The study was about establishing the role of ICT in the management of secondary schools in selected schools of Central Uganda with particular interest on the role of ICT in enhancing effective financial management, the effect of ICT on examination management; setting, testing, record keeping and grading system and the role of ICT in enhancing effective communication in selected secondary schools in central Uganda. The study was prompted by the realization that management in many secondary schools in Uganda was characterized by inefficiency in the areas of financial management, examination management and dissemination of information in schools which had resulted into declining academic standards yet schools had ICT facilities that could enhance effective management. The study was carried out in selected secondary schools in Central Uganda. I used a cross sectional survey design in this study and I collected data using semi-structured survey questionnaires, interviews and observation. I logically analyzed Qualitative data as the study progressed and I used a Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and excel to analyze quantitative data. Purposive sampling technique was used and tables were used to determine the sample sizes. Upon the role of ICT on management of financial issues, I discovered that most of the schools were applying ICT facilities in management of financial issues; however some of the administrators lacked enough computer skill to effectively use ICT in the financial management of the school. The mostly used ICT facilities included electronic databases, internet, and computer applications such as Excel, Word and Access for managing teacher's pay rolls, allowances, salaries, school fees payment verification and procurement

Book The Impact of ICT Integration on Students Academic Performance in Business Subjects A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Lagos Nigeria

Download or read book The Impact of ICT Integration on Students Academic Performance in Business Subjects A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Lagos Nigeria written by Olufemi Adebayo and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of this study is to ascertain the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) integration on students’ academic performance in Nigerian Secondary Schools. As a guide to the study, answers will be sought to the following questions: What is the level of availability and usage of ICT facilities in secondary schools in Lagos State? What is attitude of respondents towards ICT application effect on academic performance? What is the relationship between the usage of ICT and academic performance? What are the constraints to the effective usage of ICT? Change is expected in the pattern of teaching and learning process from the conventional method to a more dynamic and flexible one, presumed learner-centered. The learner-centred approach empowers students; they are in control of their activities, materials and pace of learning, which places them in the centre of the learning process and enhances independent learning. However, despite the glaring relevance of ICT in education, coupled with the huge capital investment of both Federal and State governments through ICT driven project known as “schoolNET” and donations from Non-Governmental Organizations to Secondary schools in Nigeria, some teachers are still reluctant, ineffective and unproductive in using ICT facilities to improve students’ academic performance, especially in Business subjects. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have become inseparable entities in all aspects of human life. The use of ICT has fundamentally changed the practices and procedures of nearly all forms of endeavour within business, governance and civil service. In education, ICT has begun to have a presence but the impact has not been as extensive as in other fields of endeavour. The moving of the world to digital media and information has made the role of ICT in education to become more important and this importance will continue to grow and develop in the 21st century. Information and communication technology (ICT) is an indispensable part of the contemporary world. In fact, culture and society have to be adjusted to meet the challenges of the knowledge age. Undoubtedly ICT has impacted on the quality and quantity of teaching, learning and research in tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.

Book Changing Teachers Changing Times

Download or read book Changing Teachers Changing Times written by Andy Hargreaves and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2001-01-10 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The rules of the world are changing. It is time for the rules of teaching and teachers' work to change with them.' This is the challenge which Andy Hargreaves sets out in his book on teachers' work and culture in the postmodern world. Drawing on his current research with teachers at all levels, Hargreaves shows through their own vivid words what teaching is really like, how it is already changing, and why. He argues that the structures and cultures of teaching need to change even more if teachers are not to be trapped by guilt, pressed by time and overburdened by decisions imposed upon them. Provocative yet practical, this book is written for teachers and those who work with teachers, and for researchers who want to understand teaching better in the postmodern age.
