Book The River Called Silence

Download or read book The River Called Silence written by Hopey and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every now and then, in history, a prolific and sound voice arises. And if ever a rising wave of such a new and inspiring voice would emerge, it might compare in the new American release, premiere novel by writer, Mr. Hopey Whisperwind. Beckoning with oscillations of an enrapturing tale, Mr. Whisperwind brings us to The River Called Silence. In his novel, Whisperwind eloquently spans the centuries of time, in order to weave a hauntingly intriguing story of his native people, the Low-Tow-Pee Indians of the North Carolina Mountains. Spoken in two installments, Book One opens with a prologue, titled, The Prophecy of the Sparrow, a recounting by Mr. Whisperwind of the sacred promise given to the Low-Tow-Pee before his time. Thereafter, in the beginning chapters, Mr. Whisperwind is living and working in New York City as a magazine journalist with his soon to be fiancée. Unannounced, he is called back home, to be amongst his tribe. Upon his return to his hometown of Cool Ridge, North Carolina, he is summoned to reawaken the fire of healing hands that was upon him as a child, in order to heal his ailing Grandmother, Lily Whisperwind. However, on this occasion, his healing, which the Low-Tow-Pee calls the Fever, is unable to cure her. His Grandmother passes away through the night. The next day, to Mr. Whisperwind's and his tribe's surprise, his Grandmother's Will states that Whisperwind is to inherit all of her belongings, the 100 year old home and her tattered journal within it. So then, the true journey begins as Mr. Whisperwind encounters the pages of her writings that speak of old walking spirits, a young love that blooms within a wondrous hidden world of heavenly things, and the praying hearts of a prophecy fulfilled. A well defined, timeless masterpiece at the heart of what makes every human human; The River Called Silence faithfully reaches out to its readers with a prolific and sound voice. Tweren't for love where, O' where would I be? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1956, A River Called Titash is among the most highly acclaimed novels in Bengali literature. A unique combination of folk poetry and ethnography, Adwaita Mallabarman's tale of a Malo fishing village at the turn of the century captures the songs, speech, rituals, and rhythms of a once self-sufficient community and culture swept away by natural catastrophe, modernization, and political conflict. Both historical document and work of art, this lyrical novel provides an intimate view of a community of Hindu fishers and Muslim peasants, coexisting peacefully before the violent partition of Bengal between India and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Mallabarman's story documents a way of life that has all but disappeared. This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press's mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Moving, articulate, and insightful, this book is a welcome exploration of men's spiritual journey at midlife. Written by an author with his own extraordinary middle passage, the book provides practical insights for men, while offering women an invaluable window into men's souls." -Allan Chinen, author of Beyond the Hero: Classic Stories of Men in Search of Soul"Lively and unembarrassed, written with great psychological acumen, Crossing the Soul's River is a major contribution to our understanding of men at midlife. This is the conversation men need to have with another man when their familiar old assumptions and priorities no longer make sense. Give it to a man you really care about. Give it to a woman who wants to know men at the core." -Stephen Bank, coauthor of The Sibling Bond"Crossing the Soul's River is one of the second generation of men's books that are trying to chart concrete steps men can take to do the work we need to do to become more self-actualized and, therefore, more responsible partners, citizens, and churchmen . . . [Roberts's] articulation of men's needs for the wisdom of Sophia is the clearest I have ever read."-Stephen Boyd, author of The Men We Long to Be: Beyond Lonely Warriors and Desperate Lovers "William O. Roberts's compelling book puts the male midlife crisis into its deepest context-the growth of ourselves as spiritual beings. In so doing it moves well beyond treatments which focus solely on the psychological dimension of this process-though Roberts details these too with a sharp, insightful eye honed by his own personal experience. Most helpful is his detailing of various rites of passage designed to help men navigate through this difficult time. In this the book is of practical as well as intellectual use. I found the book deeply insightful and altogether illuminating."-Brian Fay, author of Contemporary Philosophy of Social Science: A Multicultural Approach

She is quickly sold into slavery and finds herself part of the harem of the sadistic Amir Shaykhu. She learns to adjust in her new situation but in her heart she burns with a vengeance to kill her uncle for everything he has done to her family. It is while she is there that she is called upon to translate for a Venetian prisoner who she discovers is her cousin, the son of her Uncle Silvestro. It is at that exact moment of discovery that she sees, at last, an opportunity to become an avenging angel but she is torn by the fact that her daughter is pregnant with the princes child and that she has finally found the happiness she once had as a child. Her dilemma tears her apart and she knows that whatever road she chooses to follow, part of her will always second-guessing her decision. Set in the time of the emerging Renaissance in Italy, the friction between Constantinople and the Turks and the Black Death, Scarred is the story of every person who finds him or herself at a crossroad and hopes they choose the correct one.

Each tells the story of an individual from the Bible narrative, explaining how God stepped in to change their situation, thus revealing how important they were to Him. These are true stories, using carefully researched material for authenticity and accuracy. The stories are told with remarkable power and conviction.

Book An Autobiography of Davy Crockett

Download or read book An Autobiography of Davy Crockett written by Davy Crockett and published by Skyhorse Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2011-10-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The True Story of Davy Crockett, One of the Great American Folk Heroes. There are few historical figures more legendary than Davy Crockett. From his humble beginnings as a boy in Tennessee to his death at the infamous Battle of the Alamo, Crockett is one of the most iconic figures in American history. His larger-than-life exploits and accomplishments have inspired countless plays, films, songs, books, and folk tales, both in his lifetime and in ours. But how much of what we know about him is true? An Autobiography of Davy Crockett reveals the man behind the myth, using primary sources to tell the story of this dedicated politician, brave frontiersman, and honored soldier in his own words. In this book, Stephen Brennan draws from Crockett's original letters and writings to craft a rich, firsthand narrative of the icon's amazing life. Readers will hear stories of his growing up in a log cabin, his days as a scout for Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812, his time as a congressman in his home state, and his explosive fights with Jackson over the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Black and white drawings complement the text, illustrating the events and figures that made Davy Crockett the legend he is today. Skyhorse Publishing, along with our Arcade, Good Books, Sports Publishing, and Yucca imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
