Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowing the Islamic rulings regarding monthly periods, or pre- and post-natal bleeding is an essential duty of every Muslim woman. However the lack of a comprehensive resource in English on this subject matter has made access to these laws almost impossible for those who are unfamiliar with Arabic, Persian, or Urdu. This is largely due to the fact that open discussion on this and similar subjects are considered 'taboo'. This is compounded by the complexity of the laws regarding the vast differences for women and their menstrual cycles. As a result, many writers have been discouraged from dealing with this subject matter comprehensively. However, Allamah Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi has accomplished this task by simplifying the laws of the shari'ah for women in an easy to understand guide. It consists of three main sections: (1) Menstruation, (2) Irregular bleeding, and (3) Post-Natal Bleeding. Commonly asked questions, detailed definitions, clear charts, and easy-to-read explanations are some of the contents that make this an invaluable guide for every practicing Muslimah.

Book excerpt: Examining cultures as diverse as long-house dwellers in North Borneo, African farmers, Welsh housewives, and postindustrial American workers, this volume dramatically redefines the anthropological study of menstrual customs. It challenges the widespread image of a universal "menstrual taboo" as well as the common assumption of universal female subordination which underlies it. Contributing important new material and perspectives to our understanding of comparative gender politics and symbolism, it is of particular importance to those interested in anthropology, women's studies, religion, and comparative health systems.

Download or read book Moses and Monotheism written by Sigmund Freud and published by Leonardo Paolo Lovari. This book was released on 2016-11-24 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book consists of three essays and is an extension of Freud’s work on psychoanalytic theory as a means of generating hypotheses about historical events. Freud hypothesizes that Moses was not Hebrew, but actually born into Ancient Egyptian nobility and was probably a follower of Akhenaten, an ancient Egyptian monotheist. Freud contradicts the biblical story of Moses with his own retelling of events, claiming that Moses only led his close followers into freedom during an unstable period in Egyptian history after Akhenaten (ca. 1350 BCE) and that they subsequently killed Moses in rebellion and later combined with another monotheistic tribe in Midian based on a volcanic God, Jahweh. Freud explains that years after the murder of Moses, the rebels regretted their action, thus forming the concept of the Messiah as a hope for the return of Moses as the Saviour of the Israelites. Freud said that the guilt from the murder of Moses is inherited through the generations; this guilt then drives the Jews to religion to make them feel better.

Book Women in Middle Eastern History

Download or read book Women in Middle Eastern History written by Nikki R. Keddie and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This history of Middle Eastern women is the first to survey gender relations in the Middle East from the earliest Islamic period to the present. Outstanding scholars analyze a rich array of sources ranging from histories, biographical dictionaries, law books, prescriptive treatises, and archival records, to the Traditions (hadith) of the Prophet and imaginative works like the Thousand and One Nights, to modern writings by Middle Eastern women and by Western writers. They show that gender boundaries in the Middle East have been neither fixed nor immutable: changes in family patterns, religious rituals, socio-economic necessity, myth and ideology—and not least, women’s attitudes—have expanded or circumscribed women’s roles and behavior through the ages.
