Book History of the Republic of the United States of America Vol 4

Download or read book History of the Republic of the United States of America Vol 4 written by John C. Hamilton and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Republic of the United States of America, Vol. 4: As Traced in the Writings of Alexander Hamilton and of His Cotemporaries Having given, in the previous volumes of this work, a history of the origin and rise of the Republic of the United States of America, "as traced in the writings of Alexander Hamilton and of his cotemporaries," it is now proposed, by an exhibition of facts derived from these and other sources of information, to present a larger portraiture of the organization and early administrations of the present National Government, of its domestic and foreign policy, of its parties and chief actors, than has hitherto been delineated. The great standard work on American history is justly admitted to be that of Chief Justice Marshall, entitled, "The Life of George Washington." Deriving his statements chiefly from the papers of that illustrious patriot, preserved by himself, with studious care, as monuments of the history of a people he had so well served, nothing can be more generally authentic. But, its author being a participant in many of the events which had occurred, and restrained by his elevated station, is seen to have been very guarded and heedful in his presentment of the motives, conduct, and characters of men then filling high places. Indeed, at the time he wrote, a fuller presentation would have been as difficult as unwise. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rise of the Republic of the United States Thirty-five years ago I prepared, con amore, a series of papers on "The History of Charlestown," my native place, designed for the local newspaper; but they were published in pamphlet form. The first number appeared in 1815, and six additional numbers brought the history down to the period of the battle of Bunker Hill. In the same spirit I then made collections relative to the opening scenes of the war of the Revolution; and, as there was no complete narrative of these events, I published in 1849 the "History of the Siege of Boston, and of the Battles of Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill." In these researches I became familiar with the political career of Joseph Warren, and began to frame a narrative of the transactions in which he figured as a political leader; and this was the occasion of the preparation of "The Life and Times of Joseph Warren," published in 1865. Download or read book A True Republic Classic Reprint written by Albert Stickney and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A True Republic This book is not the work of a scholar. It concerns mat ters which lie outside of my profession, and which I have never studied with thoroughness. To its writing I have been able to give only such time from day to day as could be taken from professional practice. It is not what I wish I might make it; no doubt it has many faults of which I have no knowledge or suspicion. But it is written for a purpose. Its purpose must be the excuse for its existence. The people of the United States have a new and great problem to solve. That they will solve it I make no doubt. The immense growth of party which we have had in this country is something new in history. I do not think its evils have been duly weighed; nor do I think its causes have been carefully studied. It has been too readily assumed that political parties are desirable things in the State. We speak of the abuses of party government. Is it certain that party government now has its uses?
