We are now republishing it, using the original text and artwork, in a high quality, affordable, modern edition. The author was a well known and respected figure in the gun world of that era. He also wrote "The Art of Revolver Shooting" and "Practical Rifle Shooting." and was a prolific contributor of shooting material to the sporting press. The book's one hundred and thirty six pages contain many black and white photographas and illustrations and eighteen detailed chapters: Selecting a Revolver and Ammunition; Cleaning and Care of Weapons; Sights; Learning to Use the Revolver; Gallery Shooting; Bisley: 20 Yards Stationary Target; Disappearing Target; Rapid Firing; Traversing Target; Team Shooting and Coaching; General Remarks on Shooting in Competitions; Stage Shooting; Trick Shooting; Target Shooting Off Horseback; Shooting in Self Defence; Revolver Shooting for Ladies; Shooting in the Dark. This is a fascinating read for any gun enthusiast or historian, with much of the information and advice still useful and practical today.

If you want a hunter, buy an English hunter; if a harness horse, buy an American trotter. In the same way, for whatever purpose you want a revolver, buy one, if by any means you can do so, especially for that purpose. Anyhow, it is useless to compete with a shortbarrelled pocket revolver against target revolvers. This class of revolver is intended only for selfdefence at short range, and has no pretensions to accuracy. I think that six and a half inches in the barrel, exclusive of cylinder, is about the most practical length; of course, a longer barrel theoretically gives greater accuracy, especially at long range, owing to there being more length to burn the powder in, and to the sights being farther apart, which minimises error in aiming; but practically this advantage is more than...

Book Modern American Pistols and Revolvers

Download or read book Modern American Pistols and Revolvers written by Arthur Corbin Gould and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern American Pistols and Revolvers: An Account of the Development of Pistols and Revolvers in America The first edition of Modern American Pistols and Revolvers was published in 1888. At that time there was but little general knowledge of the capabilities of the pistol or the revolver. A general impression pre vailed that there was little or no accuracy in the arms, or if they were accurate, those manipulating them skill fully were specially gifted. The publication of the first edition showed the great accuracy and reliability of certain arms, and made it apparent that to become skillful in manipulating them-was only a matter of practice. This stimulated many devotees of shooting to attempt to acquire a proficiency. As a result, at the time of writing there are expert pistol and revolver shots in various sections of the country; and as the shooting world has no national confines, this statement may be applied to many parts of the world. This book was released on 1995-08-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the fields of conservation, art history, and museum curating, this volume contains the principal papers from an international symposium titled "Historical Painting Techniques, Materials, and Studio Practice" at the University of Leiden in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from June 26 to 29, 1995. The symposium—designed for art historians, conservators, conservation scientists, and museum curators worldwide—was organized by the Department of Art History at the University of Leiden and the Art History Department of the Central Research Laboratory for Objects of Art and Science in Amsterdam. Twenty-five contributors representing museums and conservation institutions throughout the world provide recent research on historical painting techniques, including wall painting and polychrome sculpture. Topics cover the latest art historical research and scientific analyses of original techniques and materials, as well as historical sources, such as medieval treatises and descriptions of painting techniques in historical literature. Chapters include the painting methods of Rembrandt and Vermeer, Dutch 17th-century landscape painting, wall paintings in English churches, Chinese paintings on paper and canvas, and Tibetan thangkas. Color plates and black-and-white photographs illustrate works from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of The Fingerprint Sourcebook originated during a meeting in April 2002. Individuals representing the fingerprint, academic, and scientific communities met in Chicago, Illinois, for a day and a half to discuss the state of fingerprint identification with a view toward the challenges raised by Daubert issues. The meeting was a joint project between the International Association for Identification (IAI) and West Virginia University (WVU). One recommendation that came out of that meeting was a suggestion to create a sourcebook for friction ridge examiners, that is, a single source of researched information regarding the subject. This sourcebook would provide educational, training, and research information for the international scientific community.
