Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In talking with women around the country, Jim Henderson has come to believe that there is an epidemic of quiet, even sad resignation among dedicated Christian women who are feeling overworked and undervalued in the church. As a result, many women are discouraged. Some, particularly young women, respond by leaving the organized church . . . or walking away from the faith altogether. Containing personal interviews with women and new research from George Barna, The Resignation of Eve is a field report on what women have to say about how they’ve been affected by their experiences within the church. It is crucially important because, across the board, the research shows that women are driving changes in the church . . . so what will happen if they resign? Inviting women to speak for themselves, The Resignation of Eve is a must-read, life-changing book for women who have been engaged in the Christian church as well as their pastors and ministry leaders.

Book My Incredible Journey

Download or read book My Incredible Journey written by DIANAND DENNY BHAGWANDIN and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-08-23 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I came from a poor family, but was afforded all the opportunities to make myself a better person than my parents, who did not have those opportunities. My childhood days were hard living on a farm, getting up early in the morning, doing my chores and then walking two miles to school. My high school days was not as good as expected and I put that to the conditions under which I had to deal with, living away from home, sometimes under unpleasant situations, and then getting up at 5:00 am to travel by train to Georgetown to get to school. I remember reading that Abraham Lincoln had to walk six miles per day to go to school, and he became one of the best President of the United States of America. My studies were cut short to assist my family when they were faced with major problems. I realized that the experience I gained by joining the SSU made me a better person. As I began my life anew I was determined to be successful in whatever my endeavors were. Success comes with hard work and perseverance and I took advantage of all the windows of opportunities that came my way, like forming Patrician Phone Corporation and South Jamaica Services, and running for Congress. To the readers of my autobiography, especially the younger generation, I want to tell you that the sky is not the limit. There are many opportunities out there, you have to take the time to look for what interests you. If I had to live my life over again, I would probably do the same things all over again, but I think with less mistakes. I have no regrets because I did it my all way.

Book The Dramatic Literature of Nawal El Saadawi

Download or read book The Dramatic Literature of Nawal El Saadawi written by Nawal El Saadawi and published by Saqi. This book was released on 2012-02-13 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nawal El Saadawi's most recent play, God Resigns at the Summit Meeting, created an uproar in her native Egypt. On the basis of the title alone, officials declared the work heretical and charged El Saadawi with insulting the "Almighty God", not just Islam. Her prosecutors requested that all her books be destroyed, that she be arrested on return to Egypt and her Egyptian nationality be revoked. In the play, the prophets and great women gather for a meeting with God. Satan arrives to tender his resignation but neither Jesus, nor Mohammad, nor Moses are willing to replace him. Finally, God himself resigns. The second play in this collection is Isis, a critique of the discriminatory rules that control women, the daughters of Isis. Both God Resigns and Isis incorporate key themes to El Saadawi's work: that all religions are inimical to women and the poor, that the oppression of women is reprehensible and not uniquely characteristic of the Middle East or the ''Third World'', and that free speech is fundamental to any society. "El Saadawi writes with directness and passion" New York Times Book Review 'A poignant and brave writer' Marie Claire 'The leading spokeswoman on the status of women in the Arab World' Guardian 'More than any other woman, El Saadawi has come to embody the trials of Arab feminism.' San Francisco Chronicle

Book The Arrogance of Power

Download or read book The Arrogance of Power written by Anthony Summers and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2001-08-01 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The controversial New York Times–bestselling biography of America’s most infamous president written by a master of investigative political reporting. Anthony Summers’s towering biography of Richard Nixon reveals a tormented figure whose criminal behavior did not begin with Watergate. Drawing on more than a thousand interviews and five years of research, Summers traces Nixon’s entire career, revealing a man driven by addiction to power and intrigue. His subversion of democracy during Watergate was the culmination of years of cynical political manipulation. Evidence suggests the former president had problems with alcohol and prescription drugs, was mentally unstable, and was abusive to his wife, Pat. Summers discloses previously unrevealed facts about Nixon’s role in the plots against Fidel Castro and Salvador Allende, his sabotage of the Vietnam peace talks in 1968, and his acceptance of funds from dubious sources. The Arrogance of Power shows how the actions of one tormented man influenced 50 years of American history, in ways still reverberating today. “Summers has done an enormous service. . . . The inescapable conclusion, well body-guarded by meticulous research and footnotes, is that in the Nixon era the United States was in essence a ‘rogue state.’ It had a ruthless, paranoid and unstable leader who did not hesitate to break the laws of his own country.”—Christopher Hitchens, The New York Times Book Review “A superbly researched and documented account—the last word on this dark and devious man.”—Paul Theroux
