Book The European Union According to Jesus Christ

Download or read book The European Union According to Jesus Christ written by Osvaldo Salas and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This inquiry into the theological-political nature of power deals with the application to Europe of a new theory, in which the state is formulated as the synthesis of the economy and culture. Its chief aim is to answer the fundamental questions: What is the best political system for Europe? Upon which principles ought it to be founded? Does it concur with the past and the present of the Europeans? In addition, it unveils important political truths that remained up to now unidentified, yet their philosophical and theological sources were known for centuries. A new concept and an age-old thinking method brought forth this universal political theory. 'Culture family' means either an association of distinct cultures sharing common roots, or the transnational society of their human carriers. Arguably, a sound approach to the political future of multicultural societies is impossible in the absence of this construct. This book explains the genesis of the European culture family in accordance with Hegel's dialectical method, and identifies love as the principle and the end guiding life within it. Moreover, it includes a draft of the Charter of the Rights of the European Culture Family, so as to ensure that all concerned parties acknowledge them. The other key idea underpinning The European Union according to Jesus Christ consists of a cross-domain, all embracing analogy. Just as the person and the work of Jesus Christ are essential to the redemption of mankind, so the entity and the duty of the state are crucial to the recovery of culturally and economically interconnected societies. The Definition of Faith of the Chalcedon Council and its political translation illustrate this similarity. In order to develop it thoroughly, 45 articles of the Summa Theologiae were translated into an equal number of political theses. Aquinas wrote this masterpiece in the 13th century, that is, during Europe's childhood. It is a comprehensive exposition of Christian theology and an excellent summary of the philosophy of Aristotle, one of the greatest thinkers ever. Thus the worth of the propositions incarnating the European version of the state according to Jesus Christ is assured.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Church and State: Or National Religion and Church Establishments; Considered With Reference to Present Controversies The perilous times of the last days, announced long ago by the lips of Apostles, have now set in. The close of the last century witnessed what the world had never seen before, a nation of civilised atheists and learned apostates, who bade open defiance to the God of heaven. When this hideous portent appeared, its dark shadows spread even into holy ground. A negative theory of national duty, almost unknown before, found apologists and advocates within the bosom of the Christian Church. States were counselled to have nothing what ever to do, in their public Character, with the worship of God and the profession of the faith of Christ. The alliance of Church and State, in former ages, was main tained to be the source of countless evils, and their entire separation an essential and imperative law of Christian duty. These Views have been sometimes upheld by serious argument. But a more painful spectacle has been Often witnessed, when mere novices in the faith have discarded, with self-complacent pride, the consenting judgment of all the great lights of the Church in earlier days, and the mushrooms of a night have exalted them selves proudly against the cedars of Lebanon. Book Christian Faith and the Making of Europe

Download or read book Christian Faith and the Making of Europe written by Evert Van De Poll and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-13 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Europeans do not realise to what extent the world in which they live is shaped by the Bible and Christianity. This book looks at the origins of hospitals, universities, music, social welfare, human rights, the religiously neutral state, liberal democracy, humanism, modern science, and many more. The Christian faith created a common cultural space for the peoples of Europe but also determined national identities. It inspired the founders of the European integration after World War II, and it was a decisive factor in the overthrow of communism some thirty years ago. The author honestly looks at the dark pages written by churches in the past: their connection with state violence, colonialism, intolerance, capitalism, slavery, and especially antisemitism. However, its severest critics in these areas were Christians, taking their inspiration from the Gospel! Paradoxically, Europe is deeply marked by the Christian faith and at the same time by its abandonment. The author describes the rise of secular Europe: the decline of religion, the cultural dechristianisation, the rise of secular ideologies and lifestyles. He then looks at today's society, at secular, religious and demographic trends, post-secular trends in the public and political spheres, and the statistical state of Christianity in different parts of Europe. Special attention is given to committed, nominal and cultural forms of Christianity, and to typical barriers and bridges for the Gospel among seculars and postmoderns. As the author unveils the past and unravels the present, he gives hope: the message to which we owe so much is still 'good news' for Europeans today.
