Their father has been killed, and their mother and Adam, Sophie’s fiancé, have gone missing. Running out of food and facing threats from encroaching marauders, they are tempted to doubt God’s love. When Sophie discovers her fiancé has resorted to looting to survive, she cannot bring herself to forgive him, however hard he tries to make amends. Must he sacrifice everything to win her back? When they capture a thief, they learn the attack on their home was no random act of violence. Torn between justice and mercy, with their allies turning against them, their faith is heated in the fire. Will God answer their prayers and deliver them, or must their faith remain blind to facts?

Book On Our Own Strength

  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book On Our Own Strength written by Martina Thucnhi Nguyen and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Our Own Strength examines the political activities of the most influential intellectual movement in interwar French-occupied Vietnam. The far-reaching work of the Self-Reliant Literary Group (Tự Lực Văn Đoàn) included applied design, urban reform, fashion, literature, journalism, and cartoons; its work was deeply political in both form and intent. The Group drew upon a wide range of global intellectual currents and practices to build an enlightened public that would one day serve as the basis of a modern Vietnamese nation. Its nationalist vision sought a nonviolent middle path between colonialism and anticolonial struggle, advocating a process of gradual decolonization that ultimately ended in Vietnamese autonomy. This form of cosmopolitan nationalism proved tremendously popular among ordinary Vietnamese and necessarily shaped local politics, influencing the political agenda of even rival groups such as the newly revived Indochinese Communist Party (ICP). On Our Own Strength shows how the Group’s vision framed the ways ICP positioned itself and sought popular support in the years leading up to the August Revolution and beyond. In later years, the party attempted to erase the Group’s early influence on national politics, banning their writings and casting them as little more than bourgeois literary figures. In recovering the Group’s unique response to the world around them, this book bridges the areas of political, cultural, and intellectual history, drawing them together into a rich narrative of Vietnamese nation-building from the bottom-up within a larger global context. On Our Own Strength offers a dynamic model for the field of Vietnamese studies as it continues to move beyond Cold War political narratives of its most tumultuous period. This book engages broadly with global history, European history, and imperial studies to explore colonialism’s hybrid cultural and political forms. Martina Thucnhi Nguyen examines how the Self-Reliant Literary Group weighed in on everything from women’s fashion and public housing to the major political ideologies of their era, in a unique style that mixed French-inflected ideas with Vietnamese norms and forms. As a deep case study of important figures on the Vietnamese moderate left, On Our Own Strength provides an injection of color and nuance into a history that is often too monochromatic.

Book The Blessing Of A Skinned Knee

Download or read book The Blessing Of A Skinned Knee written by Wendy Mogel and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-12-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The beloved bestseller that offers a practical, inspiring new roadmap for raising self-reliant, ethical, and compassionate children. In the trenches of a typical day, every parent encounters a child afflicted with ingratitude and entitlement. In a world where material abundance abounds, parents want so badly to raise self-disciplined, appreciative, and resourceful children who are not spoiled by the plentitude around them. But how to accomplish this feat? The answer has eluded the best-intentioned mothers and fathers who overprotect, overindulge, and overschedule their children's lives. Dr. Mogel helps parents learn how to turn their children's worst traits into their greatest attributes. Starting with stories of everyday parenting problems and examining them through the lens of the Torah, the Talmud, and important Jewish teachings, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee shows parents how to teach children to honor their parents and to respect others, escape the danger of overvaluing children's need for self-expression so that their kids don't become "little attorneys," accept that their children are both ordinary and unique, and treasure the power and holiness of the present moment. It is Mogel's singular achievement that she makes these teachings relevant for any era and any household of any faith. A unique parenting book, designed for use both in the home and in parenting classes, with an on-line teaching guide to help facilitate its use, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee is both inspiring and effective in the day-to-day challenge of raising self-reliant children.

Book Will Bonsall s Essential Guide to Radical Self Reliant Gardening

Download or read book Will Bonsall s Essential Guide to Radical Self Reliant Gardening written by Will Bonsall and published by Chelsea Green Publishing. This book was released on 2015 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Society does not generally expect its farmers to be visionaries." Perhaps not, but longtime Maine farmer and homesteader Will Bonsall does possess a unique clarity of vision that extends all the way from the finer points of soil fertility and seed saving to exploring how we can transform civilization and make our world a better, more resilient place. In Will Bonsall's Essential Guide to Radical, Self-Reliant Gardening, Bonsall maintains that to achieve real wealth we first need to understand the economy of the land, to realize that things that might make sense economically don't always make sense ecologically, and vice versa. The marketplace distorts our values, and our modern dependence on petroleum in particular presents a serious barrier to creating a truly sustainable agriculture. For him the solution is, first and foremost, greater self-reliance, especially in the areas of food and energy. By avoiding any off-farm inputs (fertilizers, minerals, and animal manures), Bonsall has learned how to practice a purely veganic, or plant-based, agriculture--not from a strictly moralistic or philosophical perspective, but because it makes good business sense: spend less instead of making more. What this means in practical terms is that Bonsall draws upon the fertility of on-farm plant materials: compost, green manures, perennial grasses, and forest products like leaves and ramial wood chips. And he grows and harvests a diversity of crops from both cultivated and perennial plants: vegetables, grains, pulses, oilseeds, fruits and nuts--even uncommon but useful permaculture plants like groundnut (Apios). In a friendly, almost conversational way, Bonsall imparts a wealth of knowledge drawn from his more than forty years of farming experience. "My goal," he writes, "is not to feed the world, but to feed myself and let others feed themselves. If we all did that, it might be a good beginning."

Book Illinois Estate Plan

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael E. Byczek
  • Publisher : Michael E. Byczek
  • Release : 2024-06-25
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 129 pages

Download or read book Illinois Estate Plan written by Michael E. Byczek and published by Michael E. Byczek. This book was released on 2024-06-25 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health care legal documents are an essential component of estate planning in Illinois. You should prepare in advance and appoint who should make health care decisions for you.

Power of Attorney is a legal concept that allows you to appoint another person to make property, financial, and health care decisions for you. He/she may, for example, sign documents, sell real estate, access bank accounts, and coordinate with doctors to make decisions about your medical treatment.

Power of Attorney for Health Care is such an important decision that Illinois law has special requirements and a basic form that is independent from a Power of Attorney for Property. The person you appoint is called your "health care agent". This individual has the authority to make health care decisions for you if you are unable to make them yourself.

A Living Will is your written declaration that instructs a physician to have death delaying procedures withheld or withdrawn in instances of a terminal condition. There is also an Illinois law specific to this document with a sample basic format.

This book focuses entirely on these laws and the recommended statutory format:

- Power of Attorney for Health Care
- Living Will
- HIPAA Authorization
- Detailed Instructions and Insight
- Relevant Laws

Included is a basic HIPAA Authorization form for situations where federal law prevents your family, or others, from accessed or relying upon your medical records to make decisions for you. Without such authorization, a doctor or hospital could refuse to provide your own children with private medical records.

Also included is a brief tutorial for artificial intelligence writing health care estate plan documents without an attorney using AI chatbot platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini).

The author, Michael E. Byczek, has been a licensed Illinois attorney since 2007 (Chicago, IL). He manages his own legal business (https://byczeklaw.com) and has also been a licensed real estate broker (https://byczekbrokerage.com) since 2003. He has been developing legal mobile apps since 2008 and launched an eBook series in 2024.

While only valid for Illinois residents, anybody can use this information to learn the legal requirements of health care estate plan documents and use this book as a template to write your own version. You may also modify these documents to suit your preferences. You don’t need to be an attorney to write your own legal documents, just make sure the final version is accurate and valid.
