Book Seabird Habitat Restoration on the California Islands

Download or read book Seabird Habitat Restoration on the California Islands written by David M. Mazurkiewicz and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Invasive, non-native species plant and animal species as well as island ecosystem degradation have affected seabird nesting habitat quality on many of the California Islands which imposes threats to population growth and recovery. Seabirds are important throughout the archipelago and every island and most offshore rocks provide critical breeding and roosting habitat. Recent seabird habitat restoration work has been supported by several restoration programs and has afforded an opportunity for advances in bi-national conservation and collaboration. Currently, there are project efforts on over a dozen of the California Islands intended to benefit seabirds and restore breeding habitat also aiding imperiled vegetation communities. A summary and outcomes of the Scorpion Rock seabird restoration project off Santa Cruz Island provides a case study of a 10 year intensive effort for seabird habitat restoration. Additionally an overview of restoration work that is occurring across the California Islands is compiled and reviewed. The structure and framework of a collaborative bi-national botanical working group focused on the California Islands is outlined and highlights important goals for working both large and small scale when attempting conservation and restoration work."--leaf viii.
