Book excerpt: Recent research conducted on the behavior of costs shows that costs do not change in proportion to changes in sales. To describe it we can say, costs will increase in proportion to the sales increase, but will not decrease in proportion to the decrease in sales, this disproportionate costs, called sticky cost. There are two theories concerning the causes of sticky costs: One suggests that costs become sticky as a result of the deliberate decision of managers (hereafter referred to as the “deliberate decision theory”), and the other theory points out that costs may become sticky as a result of costs decline being unable to keep up with sales declines (hereafter referred to as the “cost adjustment delay theory”).Up to now comment of conscious decision and management's expectations from sales in the future has not been tested directly. Therefore in this research, comment of conscious decisions using predict management from sales in the future has been tested. The results of this research is based on firms listed in Tehran Stock Exchange for the 5-year period from 2005 to 2009. The results shows, when managers are optimistic about future sales the stickiness of cost increased.

Financial managers are trying to control risk management policies and senior managers assist the company in achieving economic value added. In this study we aimed to assess the risks on the economic performance of companies listed - 96 companies on The Tehran Stock Exchange during the period 2009 to 2014 extracted using E views software and multiple regression tested researchers. The results show that risk management is an impact on individual performance indicators associated with this inverse relationship between risk management and return on assets and other components of the measured correlation is significant.

Book excerpt: In literature, overconfidence has been blamed for economic bubbles and crises as well as for international conflicts and wars. While education has already been shown to impact one’s level of overconfidence previous research focused on the length and profoundness of education. This study, in contrast, examines the connection between overconfidence and the field in which a person has been educated. The issues covered are therefore how education and mind set are related, why a differentiation between “quantitative” and “qualitative” education makes sense in this context, and how different mind-sets influence an individual’s proneness to overconfidence. Drawing on the dual process concept of reasoning from psychology it is argued that the focus of one’s education may have an influence on individual levels of overconfidence through distinct ways of reasoning that are acquired and practiced during higher education. As support for this theory, data on the overconfidence of CEOs of the largest German companies is used and experiments for future research on this topic are suggested.
