Book excerpt: The results of the study produced several implications for counseling. First, if counselor educators help counselors in training become more aware of counselor self-efficacy, the students can better understand how the construct affects their anxiety, their comfort with expanding or improving their clinical skills and the approach they take to a client, session or treatment plan. A second implication is that using an embedded, rich-media learning environment may help the counselors in training to develop their clinical skills. The results of this study imply that utilizing technology and discussions beyond the classroom is beneficial for (a) increasing the students' counselor self-efficacy, (b) normalizing the emotions the students may experience and (c) improving the methods for development through vicarious learning. Also, as technology continues to evolve and as education continues to adapt by integrating technology into the classrooms, counselor educators should begin exploring how to best use technology to teach students during practicum. Traditionally, based on the nature of counseling, practicum has been an interpersonal experience, but the results of the current study imply the methods of extending learning beyond the traditional class time is beneficial. Finally, as counselor educators strive to increase students' counselor self-efficacy early in practicum, in an environment that contains anxiety and self-doubt (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009; Cashwell & Dooley, 2001) using vicarious learning through video and online discussions can assist in accomplishing the goal.

Book excerpt: "Online education has grown significantly in higher education despite a decline in overall enrollment (Allen & Seaman, 2015; U.S. Census, 2014). Notwithstanding the growing trend of online education, counselor education has been slower than many fields in adopting the online medium for providing professional training for counselors. However, the growing number of counselor education programs offering fully online counselor training indicates that this new approach to formal education is gaining momentum and acceptance within the field. Counselor training is a distinctive form of educational training because it requires a combination of theory knowledge, skill development, advanced cognitive complexity, and personal self-awareness and reflection (Giovannelli, 2003; Ivey, 1994; Nelson & Neufeldt, 1998). The current body of research provides evidence that online counselor training can be effective in facilitating the development of specific student skills (Ilieva & Erguner-Tekinalp, 2012; Nelson, 2014), competencies (Ilieva & Erguner-Tekinalp, 2012; Chapman et al, 2011), and attributes (Perry, 2012). Although this research is helpful in understanding specific aspects of online counselor education, these narrowly-focused examinations have failed to provide evidence of how this growing modality of counselor training is being developed and implemented. This study utilized a theoretical framework of constructivism, which posits that knowledge is constructed through understanding the experiences of those actively involved in a process (Dewey, 1916; Merriam & Bierema, 2013; Narayan, Rodriguez, Araujo, Shaqlaih, & Moss, 2013). In the context of this study, counselor educators served as the entry point for developing a deep understanding of how online counselor training is being developed and implemented, as they experience all aspects of the counselor training process (Senge et al., 2000; Tallent-Runnels et al., 2006). This study utilized a Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) (Hill, Thompson, & Williams, 1997) methodology to explore the experiences of Counselor Educators developing and delivering online counselor training. The CQR method was chosen because it allows individuals immersed in a phenomenon to give in-depth and rich descriptions of their experiences. CQR provides a rigorous examination of these experiences by using the consensus process of the research team to analyze the key themes from the participants' experiences and an external auditor to provide detailed feedback during the data analysis. Findings from the current study revealed two general and seven typical themes across participants' experiences. This suggested that participants' experiences developing and delivering online counselor training were highly individualized. Despite the overall low frequency counts, several categories emerged that suggest there are commonalities among experiences of developing and delivering online counselor training. Book excerpt: This study sought to evaluate the self-efficacy of teachers with regard to the integration of technology within the curriculum. The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between teachers’ self-efficacy within the classroom and their ability to integrate the technology available in the classroom. A quantitative, correlational study was performed. The sample was a convenience sample of 64 instructors at the middle grade level of a South Georgia school district. Middle school teachers were surveyed at one point in time, using Media and Technology Usage Attitude Scale (MTUAS) and the Teachers' Sense of Self- Efficacy Scale. Once the data was attained, the data was analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The study determined that there is not a statistically significant relationship between teacher self-efficacy and the ability to integrate technology within the classroom. There was also no significant relationship between teacher self-efficacy and smartphone usage, internet usage, social media usage, text messaging, and email. It was suggested that a study be conducted with a larger sample.

Book excerpt: As higher education continues to integrate technology, the counselor education field has evolved and recognized the importance of graduate students' attitudes towards technology acceptance of a wide array of technology in their training programs (Burt, Gonzalez, Swank, Ascher, & Cunningham, 2011; Kennedy, 2011; Orr, 2011; Sabella, Poynton, & Isaacs, 2010; Tyler & Sabella, 2004). This study examined the attitudes of counselor education graduate students in CACREP-accredited program towards technology acceptance using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the theoretical framework for the study. In particular, the purpose of this study was to better understand counselor education graduate students' attitudes towards technology acceptance as it relates to perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, technology self-efficacy, and technology anxiety. Participants in the study were 107 graduate students who were enrolled in Fall 2018 at 10 Midwest CACREP-accredited counselor education programs. Data were gathered by an online survey consisting of a demographic questionnaire and four instruments (Technology Acceptance Model Scales, Media and Technology Usage and Attitudes Scale, Technology Self-efficacy Scale, and Technology Anxiety Scale). The results of the hierarchical regression analysis for each of the research questions revealed several significant findings regarding graduate students' attitudes towards use of technology. For the first research question, perceived ease of use was predicted by technology self-efficacy and technology anxiety. The results indicated perceived ease of use was influenced positively by technology self-efficacy and negatively by technology anxiety. For the second research question, perceived usefulness was predicted by technology self-efficacy and technology anxiety. The results indicated perceived usefulness was influenced positively by technology self-efficacy and negatively by technology anxiety. For the third research question, counselor education graduate students' attitudes towards the use of technology was predicted by perceived usefulness. In addition, this study found a strong positive relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness likely due to multicollinearity. Technology plays an increasing role in counselor education programs. Findings from this study provide important information for counselor education programs to consider regarding graduate students' attitudes towards the use of technology.
