Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In today's complex business landscape, understanding the economic roles of accounting is essential. The Economics of Accounting demystifies the subject in an eye-opening exploration of how accounting plays a vital role in driving business efficiency and creating value. Internally, accounting information acts as a linchpin, making contracts more effective and aiding managerial decisions when market prices are unavailable. By providing valuable insights, accounting helps bridge information gaps, enabling price discovery and reducing trading costs in capital market transactions. Throughout the book, our primary measure of efficiency is shareholder value. However, we also delve into discussions on regulatory, social, and contract efficiency. It's important to note that shareholder value maximization and stakeholder protection are not conflicting objectives. In fact, accounting information plays a pivotal role in fostering firms' commitment to stakeholder protection, leading to increased value creation for shareholders. Engaging and accessible, this book will enlighten readers on the transformative power of accounting in today's business landscape"--

Book Economic Announcements and the Timing of Public Debt Auctions

Download or read book Economic Announcements and the Timing of Public Debt Auctions written by Mr.Marco Rossi and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1998-04-01 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most treasuries around the world sell their securities at auctions either directly or indirectly through an agent, usually the central bank. Although they can control both the rules and the timing of the auction, they may not be able to control the information and valuations of bidders. The purpose of this paper is to identify those economic indicators whose announcement is likely to have a significant impact on government securities prices and, hence, on bidders’ behavior at auctions of government securities. This information could be used to schedule treasury securities auctions so as to minimize public debt management costs.

Book The Japanese Stock Market

Download or read book The Japanese Stock Market written by Shigeki Sakakibara and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1988-09-26 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely volume brings together professors of finance and accounting from Japanese universities to examine the Japanese stock market in terms of its pricing and accounting systems. The papers report the results of empirical research into the Japanese stock market within the framework of new theories of finance. Academics, professionals, and anyone seeking to understand or enter the Japanese market will applaud the publication of this practical, informative volume. Having gathered data from the late 1970's through 1984, the authors analyze the market's behavior and the applicability of two major theoretical pricing models -- the Capital Asset Pricing Models and the Efficient Market Hypothesis -- to that market. Chapter 1 provides background statistical evidence on the behavior of monthly returns on Tokyo Stock Exchange common stocks. Chapter 2 discusses an empirical test of the capital asset pricing model. Chapter 3 examines evidence on the price performance of unseasoned new issues. The authors also examine the Japanese accounting disclosure system: Chapter 4 deals empirically with the information content of the annual accounting announcements and related market efficiency. The next chapter presents empirical evidence on the relationship between unsystematic returns and earnings forecast errors. Next, empirical research into the usefulness to investors of the disclosure system is examined. Finally, Chapter 7 presents several interesting questions and topics for future research on the Japanese stock market.

Book Handbook of Corporate Finance

Download or read book Handbook of Corporate Finance written by Bjørn Espen Eckbo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-05-21 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judging by the sheer number of papers reviewed in this Handbook, the empirical analysis of firms' financing and investment decisions—empirical corporate finance—has become a dominant field in financial economics. The growing interest in everything "corporate is fueled by a healthy combination of fundamental theoretical developments and recent widespread access to large transactional data bases. A less scientific—but nevertheless important—source of inspiration is a growing awareness of the important social implications of corporate behavior and governance. This Handbook takes stock of the main empirical findings to date across an unprecedented spectrum of corporate finance issues, ranging from econometric methodology, to raising capital and capital structure choice, and to managerial incentives and corporate investment behavior. The surveys are written by leading empirical researchers that remain active in their respective areas of interest. With few exceptions, the writing style makes the chapters accessible to industry practitioners. For doctoral students and seasoned academics, the surveys offer dense roadmaps into the empirical research landscape and provide suggestions for future work.*The Handbooks in Finance series offers a broad group of outstanding volumes in various areas of finance*Each individual volume in the series should present an accurate self-contained survey of a sub-field of finance*The series is international in scope with contributions from field leaders the world over

Book Identifying Stock Market Bubbles

Download or read book Identifying Stock Market Bubbles written by Azar Karimov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to a new approach to identifying stock market bubbles by using the illiquidity premium, a parameter derived by employing conic finance theory. Further, it shows how to develop the closed form formulas of the bid and ask prices of European options by using Black-Scholes and Kou models. By using the derived formulas and sliding windows technique, the book explains how to numerically calculate illiquidity premiums. The methods introduced here will enable readers interested in risk management, portfolio optimization and hedging in real-time to identify when asset prices are in a bubble state and when that bubble bursts. Moreover, the techniques discussed will allow them to accurately recognize periods of exuberance and panic, and to measure how different strategies work during these phases with respect to calmer periods of market behavior. A brief history of financial bubbles and an outlook on future developments serve to round out the coverage.
