Book The fundamentals of national park tourism and the potential as an economic engine

Download or read book The fundamentals of national park tourism and the potential as an economic engine written by Talisa Gassmann and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2024-05-13 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2024 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Tourism Geography, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Wernigerode (International Tourism Studies), course: International Tourism, language: English, abstract: The tourism industry was one of the fastest-expanding economic sectors before the coronavirus and continues to maintain its status as the world's dominant service industry. “(...) in 2019 alone, over 1.5 billion tourist arrivals were registered (...) with a growing importance of domestic tourism.” The interdependence between the increase in travel and the economic importance of tourism has been proven. Looking at the situation before the virus, it can be seen that the tourism industry contributed over 10% to global economic output. Furthermore, over 230 million jobs depend on tourism, which accounts for around 9% of global employment. As a result, it is no secret that the tourism industry is a highly profitable source of income and has the ability to combat poverty and stimulate the regional economy. The latter will be examined in more detail in the next section in order to create essential foundations for the further course of the work. Since the focus of this work is on the United States, the aim is to provide a brief insight into the American tourism industry. When evaluating the overall economic production value of the tourism sector, the World Travel & Tourism Council was able to determine that the USA occupied first place by a significant margin in 2007 and was able to maintain this position 10 years later with an increase of 44.94 % . But when it comes to travel spending, Americans also took first place in 2005 with a total of around 82 billion dollars, and they took relatively significantly more trips within their home country. The reason for this lies primarily in the richness of the diverse climate zones and landscapes.

Book Current and Future Economic Impact of Mount Hood National Forest Outdoor Recreation Consumption

Download or read book Current and Future Economic Impact of Mount Hood National Forest Outdoor Recreation Consumption written by David Matthew Anderson and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mount Hood National Forest provides opportunities for many forms of outdoor recreation. Recreationists spend money to pursue outdoor activities on public lands such as national forests and national parks. The purpose of this study was to measure the economic contribution of national forest visitor expenditures on the local economy of the Mount Hood National Forest. Secondary sources were used to gather expenditure data for 13 outdoor recreation activities and to provide recreation visitor use projections for the year 2000. The regional input-output model IMPLAN was used to model changes in final demand attributable to projected growth in per-capita consumption of outdoor recreation from Mount Hood National Forest. Economic impacts were estimated for the proposed economic region in terms of final demand, total output, total income, number of jobs, and net migration. Methods for nonsurvey economic data reconciliation are also presented. Base-year (1987) final demand attributable to outdoor recreation was found to be 1.0 - 1.5 percent of total regional final demand. Base-year output, income, and employment were found to be 0.5 - 1.0 percent of regional totals. Likely impacts of future visitor expenditures are forecasted based on a low-growth, high-growth, and variable-growth projection of future visitation to Mount Hood National Forest. Under the three projections presented, outdoor recreation related economic impacts are predicted to increase by 25 to 55 percent above the 1987 base year recreation-related regional totals, for the thirteen year projection period ending in the year 2000. Significant variation in impacts across the regions was identified for some industrial sectors. This was attributed to possible differences in locational characteristics of the affected sectors. None of the outdoor recreation-related industries exhibited significant sectoral impact variation across regions.

Book Impacts of Tourism on Joshua Tree National Park Economic Trends and Recommendations

Download or read book Impacts of Tourism on Joshua Tree National Park Economic Trends and Recommendations written by and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2024-02-05 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2023 in the subject Tourism, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Wernigerode (International Tourism Studies), language: English, abstract: The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of tourism on Joshua Tree National Park. The study addresses questions such as the recent developments in tourism, its economic impact on the region, the most affected economic sectors, and how these impacts influence the local population. The work concludes with recommendations for politics, management, and the local population. Joshua Tree National Park holds historical, cultural, and ecological significance. Despite global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, it remained the second most visited national park in California, underlining its importance. Situated east of Palm Springs, it is a unique blend of the Mojave and Colorado Deserts, offering over 32 hiking trails and diverse flora covering approximately 85% of roadless wilderness. The park's popularity surged post-World War II during the economic boom, transforming it into a prominent recreational destination. It was declared a national monument in the 1950s, attracting notable figures and becoming a hub for spiritual and cultural rejuvenation. The trend continued, leading to its designation as a national park in 1994.

Book The Economics of Third World National Parks

Download or read book The Economics of Third World National Parks written by Anup Shah and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 1995 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National parks and game reserves are under threat from exploitation by tourists and by people living on their borders. Parks, although highly valued by conservationists, are not protected from unregulated economic behaviour within and outside their borders. In The Economics of Third World National Parks, Anup Shah argues that parks and reserves are worth preserving, rigorously analyses the problem and advocates solutions drawing on a wide range of sources. Issues discussed include the effects of economic activity on a national park, the tourist problem, valuing a national park and the use of cost-benefit decision making. Dr Shah uses economic analysis to explore institutional arrangements which would compensate for externalities resulting from exploitation and over-use by tourists and local communities. The price mechanism, he argues, is not a satisfactory tool with which to protect areas of rich bio-diversity. The Economics of Third World National Parks presents a clear and thoughtful application of economic thought, and especially the concept of externalities, to a key problem which current institutional structures seem unable to resolve.
