Book Pimp Reflection of My Life

Download or read book Pimp Reflection of My Life written by Noble Dee and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our society today, although used out their original contexts, the words Pimp and Pimpin have been embraced whole-heartedly by todays hip hop generation and frequently used in slang to describe a motif of a newly set standard of flamboyant living. However, in his debut release, Donald Ray Lavan (AKA Noble Dee) provides the true definition of both words, separating the real and the facts from the faade and the fiction of todays controversial terminology. Best of all, he describes in very minute details, what the Game (Pimpin) was like for him in his era the 1960s to Y2K (The New Millienium). In this tell all non-fiction: Noble Dee illustrates, in a very blaxploitation mannerhis personal existence in the game. Not only does he exploit his successes, he also exposes the very grim details of the life; both in tones whereas you the reader bask in his glory, and share his pains; the pain of possibly regret in the life that he cherished for almost four calendar decades. Wholeheartedly, Noble Dee expresses how his own glorification of the game, indirectly allured his first born daughter into a position to be manipulated and exploited by pimps, just as he had manipulated and exploited so many daughters throughout his 35 years plus career. Not since Robert Beck revealed to the masses the vivid street Realities of a Pimps Life in his book Pimp: The Story of My Life By Iceberg Slim has the entrenching truth behind the lifestyle-termed pimpin been exposed to this degree. Thus, the primary title Pimp:Reflections of My Life. www.JumpInterstateN.biz

Book Seeing Ghosts

Download or read book Seeing Ghosts written by Kat Chow and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This "graceful, captivating" (New York Times Book Review) story from a singular new talent paints a portrait of grief and the search for meaning as told through the prism of three generations of her Chinese American family—perfect for readers of Helen Macdonald and Elizabeth Alexander. Kat Chow has always been unusually fixated on death. She worried constantly about her parents dying---especially her mother. A vivacious and mischievous woman, Kat's mother made a morbid joke that would haunt her for years to come: when she died, she'd like to be stuffed and displayed in Kat's future apartment in order to always watch over her. After her mother dies unexpectedly from cancer, Kat, her sisters, and their father are plunged into a debilitating, lonely grief. With a distinct voice that is wry and heartfelt, Kat weaves together a story of the fallout of grief that follows her extended family as they emigrate from China and Hong Kong to Cuba and America. Seeing Ghosts asks what it means to reclaim and tell your family’s story: Is writing an exorcism or is it its own form of preservation? The result is an extraordinary new contribution to the literature of the American family, and a provocative and transformative meditation on who we become facing loss. Book THINKING THINGS OVER the Reflections of Two 80 Year Olds

Download or read book THINKING THINGS OVER the Reflections of Two 80 Year Olds written by Charles Francis Guittard and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2024-03-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can happen when an 80-year-old Dallas widower meets an 80-year-old Austin widow and they discover they have a lot in common? Several things, one right after another. They start emailing and texting each other, telling each other their stories from eight decades of living apart; then, in a matter of weeks, deciding to get married, and, soon after, resolving to tell a broader audience the stories they had been telling each other. Front and center is their courtship experience itself told through their emails, combined with Charles and Nancy’s separate accounts of growing up. Charles details his parents’ attempts to polish him and wise him up about sex; his efforts to combat his social anxiety; stories about lassos, bullwhips, and crossbows; one disastrous bridge game and a biology science project gone wrong; and tortured therapeutic sessions with pediatric nurses, orthodontists, and dermatologists. Nancy’s separately chronicles her efforts competing at tennis, swimming, and singing; relationships that went nowhere; days as a civil rights protester; moments as a college prankster; slow-dancing with a boy wearing contact lenses; the family dog that ate a chicken; and her adventure at the laundromat. Finally, for those who are really thinking things over, wondering about the hereafter, a sobering fantasy of a final judgment day concludes this memoir.

Among those “huddled masses yearning to be free” are nine displaced individuals dumped upon American soil and trying to figure out how to pursue happiness, make a home, and secure love. From the four corners of the globe they came, betting their hopes on the American dream. Can they truly find the new life they desire and the freedom to let their hearts soar in love and faith? Capucine: Home to My Heart by Janet Spaeth Separated forever—from her mother, from her home, from her Acadia—Capucine Louet cannot forgive the British for tearing her family apart in 1775. Now in New Orleans, she has only one ambition: to get to La Manque, where Acadian immigrants have settled and begun a new life. Can Michel LeBlanc, himself a relocated Acadian, help her, and will she be able to overcome her hatred to accept love—and God? The Angel of Nuremberg by Irene Brand Trenton, New Jersey, of 1776 is overrun by Hessian soldiers who were brought to the Colonies to aid the British. Comfort Foster and her family have no choice but to house one of these feared soldiers in their small home. Can their family survive the tension when her brother fights for American freedom and her father doctors sick American soldiers? Freedom’s Cry by Pamela Griffin In 1777, Sarah Thurston looks forward to Philadelphia’s first celebration of Independence Day. To her, the day heralds the end of her five-year term as an indentured servant. When her greedy master threatens to draw out her servitude, cabinetmaker Thomas Gray comes to Sarah’s defense. Will he and Sarah ever be free to express their love? Blessed Land by Nancy J. Farrier Paloma Rivera hates everything American and is determined to convince her sister to move back to Mexico in 1854. But first she has to find her sister, and no one in the pueblo of Tucson is willing to help her. Can she trust the handsome blacksmith, Antonio Escobar, or is he just toying with her until it is time for her to return home? Prairie Schoolmarm by JoAnne A. Grote In 1871, Marin Nilsson, a Swedish immigrant schoolmarm, becomes a student of life and love when Swedish farmer Talif Siverson insists on joining her classes in the sod schoolhouse to improve his English skills. Will he be able to break through the teacher’s long-held reserve? I Take Thee, a Stranger by Kristy Dykes Widowed and alone in 1885, Corinn McCauley is faced with a desperate decision. Would she be willing to marry a stranger in order to survive in a new country? Trevor Parker is a prosperous farmer in Florida, and he and his two daughters need a woman in their life. But Corrin doesn’t realize just how acute their needs are until she accepts this stranger’s proposal. The Golden Cord by Judith Miller Suey Qui Jin has been sold like livestock and taken across the Pacific Ocean to California in 1885. But mercifully, she had been befriended by an American-born Chinaman who promises to help her. Can a symbolic ribbon from a Bible be the key to getting her out of slavery of body and soul? Promises Kept by Sally Laity With the death of her fiancé in 1905, all of Kiera MacPherson’s hopes for a wonderful life in the New World have vanished. She takes a position as companion to a wealthy matriarch in order to earn her passage back to Ireland. Her leisurely work allows plenty time for studying an old family Bible, and she asks Devon Hamilton, the master of the mansion, many insightful questions. Will this quest for biblical knowledge upset order in the Hamilton household—and then bless her with two everlasting loves? The Blessing Basket by Judith Miller A Chinese orphan, Sing Ho is stranded by the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Book Not Like a Native Speaker

Download or read book Not Like a Native Speaker written by Rey Chow and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-23 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the era of European colonialism has long passed, misgivings about the inequality of the encounters between European and non-European languages persist in many parts of the postcolonial world. This unfinished state of affairs, this lingering historical experience of being caught among unequal languages, is the subject of Rey Chow's book. A diverse group of personae, never before assembled in a similar manner, make their appearances in the various chapters: the young mulatto happening upon a photograph about skin color in a popular magazine; the man from Martinique hearing himself named "Negro" in public in France; call center agents in India trained to Americanize their accents while speaking with customers; the Algerian Jewish philosopher reflecting on his relation to the French language; African intellectuals debating the pros and cons of using English for purposes of creative writing; the translator acting by turns as a traitor and as a mourner in the course of cross-cultural exchange; Cantonese-speaking writers of Chinese contemplating the politics of food consumption; radio drama workers straddling the forms of traditional storytelling and mediatized sound broadcast. In these riveting scenes of speaking and writing imbricated with race, pigmentation, and class demarcations, Chow suggests, postcolonial languaging becomes, de facto, an order of biopolitics. The native speaker, the fulcrum figure often accorded a transcendent status, is realigned here as the repository of illusory linguistic origins and unities. By inserting British and post-British Hong Kong (the city where she grew up) into the languaging controversies that tend to be pursued in Francophone (and occasionally Anglophone) deliberations, and by sketching the fraught situations faced by those coping with the specifics of using Chinese while negotiating with English, Chow not only redefines the geopolitical boundaries of postcolonial inquiry but also demonstrates how such inquiry must articulate historical experience to the habits, practices, affects, and imaginaries based in sounds and scripts.

Book Iconica

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alessandro Riva
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 292 pages

Download or read book Iconica written by Alessandro Riva and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Juxtaposing contemporary artworks with the archeological wonders of Sicily may sound gimmicky, but the result, intelligently overseen by noted Italian art critic Alessandro Riva, provides some fascinating correspondences. The compositional style of a mosaic-like painting from Sandro Chia resonates with an ancient mosaic in the Piazza Armerina. A new Mimmo Rotella décollage honors a bronze satyr recently rescued from the sea. There's even a place here for as conceptually minded an artist as Wim Delvoye, whose industrial canisters decorated in the manner of fine Dutch ceramics remind us that the amphoras they are placed among from the archaeological museum of Lipari were also utilitarian objects. Other participating artists are Luigi Ontani, Aron Demetz, Paola Gandolfi, Carlo Maria Mariani, Ryan Mendoza, Luca Pignatelli and Velasco, their work an acknowledgement of how the ancient past has nurtured contemporary visions.

Book My Journey

Download or read book My Journey written by Olivia Chow and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-01-21 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Olivia Chow--Member of Parliament, seasoned politician and widow of former New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton--tells her story in this candid memoir What drives Olivia Chow? How did she emerge from a turbulent childhood to become an inspiring political force? What influences and events have shaped her life? And how is she continuing her quest after losing her partner in life and politics? When Olivia was thirteen, her middle-class family moved from Hong Kong to Toronto, but the transition was difficult. Her mother went from having a maid to being a maid. Her father failed to carve out a working life for himself in Canada. Frustrated and bitter, he lashed out at Olivia's mother, and violence darkened their lives. A rebellious yet playful child, Olivia discovered self-discipline and became an excellent student in Canada, studying fine art and philosophy at university. After graduating, Olivia worked for a time as a sculptor. Then, driven by a desire to achieve social change, the artist became an activist, and she launched her political career. As a popular and much-admired school trustee and Toronto city councillor--the first Asian woman in that role--Olivia honed a grassroots approach and crafted progressive programs that enhanced the lives of others, especially children. Strong-willed, focused and passionate, Olivia got things done by bringing together people from all parts of the political spectrum. In the mid-1980s, Olivia met Jack Layton. Their dynamic partnership, unprecedented in Canadian political life, made a powerful impact in Toronto and on the national stage. Together, they forged a strong vision for a better country and for enlightened political change. But when her beloved partner and political soulmate died in the summer of 2011, how did she find the strength to move forward? What might we learn from her inspiring story? Those answers are here, in My Journey.

Every day or two, he exchanged letters with his beloved wife, Don Leta. Her letters from home are gone, but Leo's letters survive. They tell stories of tumult on a rapidly expanding military base and the trials and humor of leading the young men under his supervision. And the letters reveal life at home, not directly, but indirectly, as if in reflection. From beginning to end, and deeply, they reveal the tender affection and abiding devotion of a husband for his wife. 344 pages; 77 photographs and illustrations.
