Book Hegel s Critique of Kant

Download or read book Hegel s Critique of Kant written by Sally Sedgwick and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sally Sedgwick presents a fresh account of Hegel's critique of Kant's theoretical philosophy. She argues that Hegel offers a compelling critique of and alternative to the conception of cognition that Kant defended in his 'Critical' period. The book examines key features of what Kant identifies as the 'discursive' character of our mode of cognition, and considers Hegel's reasons for arguing that these features condemn Kant's theoretical philosophy to scepticism as well as dualism. Sedgwick goes on to present in a sympathetic light Hegel's claim to derive from certain Kantian doctrines clues to a superior form of idealism, a form of idealism that better captures the nature of our cognitive powers and their relation to objects.

Book The Usefulness of the Kantian Philosophy

Download or read book The Usefulness of the Kantian Philosophy written by Karianne J. Marx and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of Karl Leonhard Reinhold (1757–1823) were a major factor in the development of post-Kantian philosophy, yet his exact contribution is still under discussion. This book investigates how Reinhold’s background in Enlightenment influenced his reception of Kant‌’s critical philosophy. From his pre-Kantian efforts up to the point where he began distancing himself from the master, Reinhold’s own philosophical development takes center stage. This development, rather than critical philosophy, was the main ingredient of Reinhold’s contribution to post-Kantian philosophy.

Book Aesthetics and Cognition in Kant s Critical Philosophy

Download or read book Aesthetics and Cognition in Kant s Critical Philosophy written by Rebecca Kukla and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-07-03 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the relationship between Kant's aesthetic theory and his critical epistemology as articulated in the Critique of Pure Reason and the Critique of the Power of Judgment. The essays, written specially for this volume, explore core elements of Kant's epistemology, such as his notions of discursive understanding, experience, and objective judgment. They also demonstrate a rich grasp of Kant's critical epistemology that enables a deeper understanding of his aesthetics. Collectively, the essays reveal that Kant's critical project, and the dialectics of aesthetics and cognition within it, is still relevant to contemporary debates in epistemology, philosophy of mind, and the nature of experience and objectivity. The book also yields important lessons about the ineliminable, yet problematic place of imagination, sensibility and aesthetic experience in perception and cognition.
