Book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease

Download or read book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease written by United States. Public Health Service. Office of the Surgeon General and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers the biological and behavioral mechanisms that may underlie the pathogenicity of tobacco smoke. Many Surgeon General's reports have considered research findings on mechanisms in assessing the biological plausibility of associations observed in epidemiologic studies. Mechanisms of disease are important because they may provide plausibility, which is one of the guideline criteria for assessing evidence on causation. This report specifically reviews the evidence on the potential mechanisms by which smoking causes diseases and considers whether a mechanism is likely to be operative in the production of human disease by tobacco smoke. This evidence is relevant to understanding how smoking causes disease, to identifying those who may be particularly susceptible, and to assessing the potential risks of tobacco products.

Book From Mammoths to Mediums

Download or read book From Mammoths to Mediums written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 16 discussions with workers at the Goetheanum in Dornach, May 30 - Sept. 22, 1923 (CW 350) "[These discussions were] intended for a particular group of people, and Rudolf Steiner spoke off the cuff, in accord with the given situation and the mood of the workmen at the time...the very way in which he spoke had a freshness and directness...it has a directness and vitality." -- Marie Steiner The remarkable discussions in this volume took place between Rudolf Steiner and workers at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. At Rudolf Steiner's instigation, the various topics were chosen by his audience. He took their questions and usually gave immediate answers. The astonishing nature of these responses--their insight, knowledge, and spiritual depth--gives testimony to his outstanding ability as a spiritual initiate and profound thinker. Accessible, entertaining, and stimulating, the records of these sessions will delight anyone with an open, unbiased mind. In this collection, Rudolf Steiner deals with topics ranging from mammoths to mediums! His discussions include dancing and sport; guardian angels; effects of the stars; potatoes, beetroot and radishes; the Druids; Roman Catholic and Masonic rituals; proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and salts; Aristotle; nutrition; blood circulation and the heart; honesty and conscience; boredom and opinions; lungs and kidneys; fertilization in plants and humans; light and color; and the nature of breathing. This volume was originally published in German as Rhythmen im Kosmos und im Menschenwesen: Wie kommt man zum Schauen der geistigen Welt? 3rd edition (Rhythms in the cosmos and in human beings: How does one come to see in the spiritual world? [CW 350]).

  • ISBN : 1732956316

Download or read book Candy Savant written by A.L. Hawke and published by A.L. Hawke. This book was released on 2019-01-24 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2234 men are extinct, having been deemed unnecessary. This is the story of Candice Harlow, a brilliant young scientist arranged by Arkite’s supreme ruler, Elise Jackson, to lead the Savant project. A.I. is forbidden to experiment with human genes, so it enlists researchers—Savants. Savants work to create a human being from scratch to serve as a blueprint for immortality. Candice likes her newfound wealth and status, but she’s not sure she likes Elise. Elise is unhinged. She’s manic, has a furious temper, and seems to care more for Candy’s dollface than her scientific aptitude. By day, Candy flies her bike to HQ laboratory. By night, she’s whisked off to fancy restaurants and nightclubs. The project’s genesis is not unlike Frankenstein’s creature. Though not hideous, the creation is shunned by the all-female society. Candy shelters and cares for the creation, but not before she’s unfairly betrayed and accused of the worst possible crime. Candy Savant is book 1 in the Candy Savant series. The two books in the series are complete self-contained novels not ending in cliffhangers. Some spoilers cannot be avoided, but book 1 can be enjoyed without reading book 2, Mother Savant. Content warning: Arkite is a dystopian city featuring a ruler who is not nice. Expect profanity, adult situations, and sexual scenes.

Book excerpt: In my first published book, FALLING INTO PLACE readers discovered all my stories take place in the same universe, that they are all connected. As a way of presenting my universe, I used the first book to introduce the darkness or the villainy. COMING INTO FOCUS introduces the protagonists, the various forces that will battle that evil. The "good guys," so to speak. These are the most reluctant of heroes, fighting the good fight out of necessity instead of altruism. You will meet original characters who display friendship, courage, fortitude and determination the likes of which you've never encountered. Of course, with each new story, the evil becomes greater and the odds of our "good guys" winning get smaller. Each one of these stories will show you an aspect of the human experience most people never see: imperfect and troubled people, put in unimaginable situations, struggling to do what's right. As always, they come with twists, turns and unexpected shocks. Come along for the ride with 6 captivating stories. But don't worry, you can enjoy all of them without having read the first book. If you have read the first one, you'll enjoy them even more!

In the spring of 2006, a new kind of show premiered on Bravo: The Real Housewives of Orange County. Its stars were tanned, taut, and bedazzled; their homes were echoey California villas; and their drama was gossip-fueled, wine-drenched, and absolutely exquisite. Fifteen seasons on, RHOC is an institution, along with The Real Housewives of New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Potomac, and more. Over the years these ladies have done a lot more than lunch, launching thirty-one books, a cocktail line, two jail sentences, a couple supermodel daughters, Andy Cohen’s talk show career, thirty-six divorces, fourteen albums, a White House party crash, and approximately one million memes. Brian Moylan has been there through it all, in front of the screen and behind the scenes. The writer of Vulture’s beloved series recaps, he’s here to tell us the full story, from the inside scoop on every classic throwdown to the questions we’ve always wanted to know, like—what are the housewives really like off-camera? (The same.) How much money do they make? (Lots.) He has a lot to say about the legacy and fandom of a franchise that’s near and dear to his heart, and inextricable from pop culture today. A must-have for any fan of real drama and fake [redacted], The Housewives is the definitive companion to an American TV treasure.
