Of water and allowed to stand. These esters in contrast to the aliphatic esters were stable and showed no signs of de composition after 2 weeks. Halogenated Esters and Potassium hydroxide.-a number of the esters were treated with powdered potassium hydroxide. In every case, the potassium salt of the organic acid, potassium chloride and the alde hyde were produced. Book The Chemistry of Imidoyl Halides

Download or read book The Chemistry of Imidoyl Halides written by Henri Ulrich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Primarily, the aim of this book is to provide a reference work for senior students and research workers engaged in the synthetic aspects of chemistry. The various classes of compounds under discussion provide useful interme diates for the synthesis of numerous nitrogen-containing derivatives. Imidoyl halides are also intermediates in several classical name reactions, such as the Gattermann, Houben-Hoesch, and Vilsmeier-Haack syntheses of aldehydes and ketones, the Beckmann rearrangement, and the v. Braun degradation. Some imidoyl halides have shown interesting agricultural activities, and the generation of highly reactive species (ketenimines, nitrile oxides, nitrile imides, carbodiimides, etc.) from imidoyl halides has contributed to the study of polar cycloaddition reactions. To enable researchers to utilize this chemistry without consulting the original references, I have included a number of selected working examples. This procedure will facilitate the transformation of written information into well designed experiments, especially since part of the cited literature is not readily available. The book is organized around classes of imidoyl halides, with synthesis and chemistry discussed in an orderly fashion. The physical properties of the known imidoyl halides are listed in tables, and I have attempted to draw attention to the more recent literature. The one or two references provided for each compound represent those which best describe its physical constants and synthesis.

Book excerpt: In recent years, research has shown the importance of peptides in neuroscience, immunology, and cell biology. Active research programs worldwide are now engaged in developing peptide-based drugs and vaccines using modification of natural peptides and proteins, design of artificial peptides and peptide mimetics, and screening of peptide and phage libraries. In this comprehensive book, the authors discuss peptide synthesis and application within the context of their increasing importance to the pharmaceutical industry. The history of peptide chemistry Amide formation, deprotection, and disulfide formation in peptide synthesis Solid-phase peptide synthesis a-helix formation by peptides in water Stability and dynamics of peptide conformation An overview of structure-function studies of peptide hormones Neuropeptides:peptide and nonpeptide analogs Reversible inhibitors of serine proteinases Design of polypeptides Current capabilities and future possibilities of soluble chemical combinatorial libraries Epitope mapping with peptides Synthesis and applications of branched peptides in immunological methods and vaccines

Book The Reactions of Acid Halides with Sodium Magnesium Zinc and Amalgams

Download or read book The Reactions of Acid Halides with Sodium Magnesium Zinc and Amalgams written by William Hamlet Webb and published by . This book was released on 1939 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The reactions of acid halides with metals are of interest because there seems to be a possibility of abstracting the halogens from two molecules of the halide, and thereby bringing about a coupling reaction; or the formation of an intermediate organo-metallic compound which would react with another molecule of the acid halide. The result of these reactions should be the formation of diacetyl and acetyl chloride and of dibenzoyl or benzil from benzoyl chloride. This procedure would be far better than the usual procedures for the preparation of these compounds ... The results reported in the literature by different workers, on the reaction of benzoyl chloride with metals, do not agree and very little work has been reported on the reaction of acetyl halides with metals. These facts suggested an investigation of this subject"--Introduction, leaves 1-2.

Book Foundations of Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Foundations of Organic Chemistry written by David R. Dalton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 1440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book differs from other organic chemistry textbooks in that it is not focused purely on the needs of students studying premed, but rather for all students studying organic chemistry. It directs the reader to question present assumptions rather than to accept what is told, so the second chapter is largely devoted to spectroscopy (rather than finding it much later on as with most current organic chemistry textbooks). Additionally, after an introduction to spectroscopy, thermodynamics and kinetics, the presentation of structural information of compounds and organic families advances from hydrocarbons to alcohols to aldehydes and ketones and, finally, to carboxylic acids.
