Book Boomer Boys Looking Back

Download or read book Boomer Boys Looking Back written by Alan R. Montgomery and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2012 Alan Montgomery sent out an email to a group of men who he knew were born between 1946–1964, a time that has been described as the Baby Boomer age. The premise for this book was to gather an array of short stories from amateur writers about their experiences growing up and then compile them into a collection that is given some historical and social context by using a story from a pre and post boomer perspective. He posed various questions to the contributors to help them explore their past and the impact it has had on their own current situation. The stories range in scope from self-discovery, karate as a means to the fountain of youth, to a lengthy semi-biographical of one man’s journey through the boomer age. Four short letters from the past open the book, introducing the reader to the generation before the boomers arrived. Boomer Boys Looking Back is a book filled with interesting insights into a generation that will soon fade into obscurity as it struggles to remain relevant. Each story is designed to provide an intriguing perspective from the point of view from the boomers as they made their way through their lives. A dozen or so men have made such a huge contribution toward this book, those of whom have travelled distances to meet up and give their own compelling narrative of events. All that remains is to take the reader on a journey of curiosity and allow you to marvel how the boomer evolved.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ray Harryhausens animated creatures sparkled with predatory alertness and subtle quirks of behavior that stamped each with a distinct and memorable personality. His use of stop-motion animation a method of animating movable models and puppets brought dinosaurs and monsters to life on the silver screen. Many animators and special effects wizards, like Phil Tippett of Jurassic Park and Jim Aupperle of Planet of Dinosaurs who are still working on prehistoric-based films, openly credit Ray Harryhausen as having influenced their careers. His films are famous for being among the very best of the genre. The first chapter of this book chronicles Harryhausens for mative years and work on numerous 16mm experiments, beginning with his viewing of King Kong in 1933. The next four chapters cover his four feature-length dinosaur films, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, The Animal World, One Million Years B.C. and The Valley of Gwangi. These chapters provide extensive information about all aspects of the staging of their stop-motion content and many additional facets of the overall production process. The paleontological accuracy of his saurians from a modern perspective is also examined. A chapter on his work and experiences in the 1970s and beyond discusses potential dinosaur projects, as well as The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, which is not a saurian film, but does include the bat-winged homunculus. An appendix covers a number ofdinosaur-related films that Harryhausen had a hand in.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader! The human soul can be very bleak, but it is also diverse and rich. Our soul also determines our actions, because we can share, we can give from what is in our heart, in our soul. If we notice the little, even the simple, we see not only the surface of the world, because in this way we recognize the beauty and joy around us, but also the pain and sadness. Many times a beautiful moment, an old memory, light stealth through the foliage of the trees and words break out of our souls are enough. In my volume you can read poems and short stories that can give comfort, reinforcement and guidance. But also a smile, a serenity as a tear can flow out of our eyes. I illustrated the book with my paintings and pictures. They are received with as much love as I wrote.

Book The Rays before Satyajit

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chandak Sengoopta
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2016-05-04
  • ISBN : 0199089647
  • Pages : 525 pages

Download or read book The Rays before Satyajit written by Chandak Sengoopta and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the history of Indian cinema, the name of Satyajit Ray needs no introduction. However, what remains unvoiced is the contribution of his forebears and their tryst with Indian modernity. Be it in art, advertising, and printing technology or in nationalism, feminism, and cultural reform, the earlier Rays attempted to create forms of the modern that were uniquely Indian and cosmopolitan at the same time. Some of the Rays, especially Upendrakishore and his son, Sukumar, are iconic figures in Bengal. But even Bengali historiography is almost exclusively concerned with the family’s contributions to children’s literature. However, as this study highlights, the family also played an important role in engaging with new forms of cultural modernity. Apart from producing literary works of enduring significance, they engaged in diverse reformist endeavours. The first comprehensive work in English on the pre-Satyajit generations, The Rays before Satyajit is more than a collective biography of an extraordinary family. It interweaves the Ray saga with the larger history of Indian modernity.

Book Looking Forward Looking Back

Download or read book Looking Forward Looking Back written by Jana Pohl and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2011 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is the life-altering event of migration narrated for children, especially if it was caused by Anti-Semitism and poverty? What of the country of origin is remembered and what is forgotten, and what of the target country when the migration is imagined there a century later? Looking Forward, Looking Back examines today’s representation of Jewish mass migration from Eastern Europe to America around the turn of the last century. It explores the collective story that emerges when American authors look back at this exodus from an Eastern European home to a new one to be established in America. Focusing on children’s literature, it investigates a wide range of texts including young adult literature as well as picture books and hence sheds light on the dynamics of the verbal and the visual in generating images of the self and other, the familiar and the strange. This book is of interest to scholars in the field of imagology, children’s literature, cultural studies, American studies, Slavic studies, and Jewish studies.

This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hope is like a light shining in the distance where once laid darkness. In faith, though doubting and crying out to a God of love, hope springs up and grows increasingly with trust until the light bursts through the small opening in the trees. Now when you see clearly, life takes on new meaning. In Railroad Crossings to Restoration: Looking Back and Pressing Forward, Larene speaks from the heart in truth and love, remembering the journey she had traveled in the darkest moments of her life. This journey would not be like the last. It was not one where she knew the landmarks and where God would show her the paths to take to get there, filling in the blank spaces between. No. This journey was different. With no landmarks on the map and no knowledge of where she was going, she would need to trust God as He took her uncertain hand and made this new journey a mystery, an adventure, a venture into a newfound land of faith.
