Baba Indaba translates as "Father of Stories". In this 373rd issue of the Baba Indaba’s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the Fairy Tale "THE ENCHANTED WREATH”. ONCE upon a time, long, long ago and far, far away, a man and his wife and two girls lived near a forest; one girl was the daughter of the man, and the other the daughter of his wife; and the man’s daughter was good and beautiful, but the woman’s daughter was always cross and repulsive. However, her mother did not know that, but thought her the most bewitching maiden that ever was seen. One day the man called to his daughter and bade her come with him into the forest to cut wood. They worked hard all day, but in spite of the chopping they were very cold, for it rained heavily, and when they returned home, they were wet through. Then, to his vexation, the man found that he had left his axe behind him, and he knew that if it lay all night in the mud it would become rusty and useless. So he said to his wife: ‘I have dropped my axe in the forest, bid your daughter go and fetch it, for mine has worked hard all day and is both wet and weary.’ But the wife answered: ‘If your daughter is wet already, it is all the more reason that she should go and get the axe. Besides, she is a great strong girl, and a little rain will not hurt her, while my daughter would be sure to catch a bad cold.’ And so the good daughter returned through the driving rain and sticky mud to the forest. She found the axe in the place he had left it, but to her surprise, three little doves were sitting on the handle, all of them looking very sad. Why were the doves sitting on the handle looking sad? Did she show kindness and shelter them? If she did what happened next you ask…? Well many things happened, some strange, some silly and some serious. This book was released on 2017-02-09 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 292 In this 292nd issue of the Baba Indaba?s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the story, ?THE DANCING WATER, THE SINGING APPLE, AND THE SPEAKING BIRD?, an Eastern European Fairy Tale. An Eastern European King had a habit of going about the streets at night, and listening at the doors to hear what the people said of him. So one night he listened at the door of the house where the three sisters lived, and heard them disputing. The oldest said: "If I were the wife of the royal butler, I could give the whole court to drink out of one glass of water, and there would be some left." The second said: "If I were the wife of the keeper of the royal wardrobe, with one piece of cloth I could clothe all the attendants, and have some left." But the youngest daughter said: "Were I the king's wife, I would bear him two children: a son with a sun on his forehead, and a daughter with a moon on her brow." The king went back to his palace, and the next morning sent for the sisters, and said to them: "Do not be frightened, but tell me what you said last night." The oldest told him what she had said, and the king had a glass of water brought, and commanded her to prove her words. She took the glass, and gave all the attendants some water to drink, and still there was some water left. "Bravo!" cried the king, and summoned the butler. "This is your husband.? ?Now it is your turn," said the king to the next sister, and commanded a piece of cloth to be brought, and the young girl at once cut out garments for all the attendants, and had some cloth left. "Bravo!" cried the king again, and gave her the keeper of the wardrobe for her husband.? "Now it is your turn," said the king to the youngest. "Please your Majesty, I said that if I were the king's wife, I would bear him two children: a son with a sun on his forehead, and a daughter with a moon on her brow." "If that is true," replied the king, "you shall be my queen; if not, you shall die," and straightway he married her. This story recounts what happened after the three marriages took place. Did the youngest give birth to two children, a son with a sun on his forehead, and a daughter with a moon on her brow? And what of the wife of the Royal Butler, and the wife of the Royal Wardrobe keeper? What was the outcomes of their marriages? Did all three live happily ever after, as such stories usually end this way? And what of the King? Well, to find the answers to your questions, you?ll have to download and read this story to find the answers to these and whatever questions you may have. This book was released on 2017-03-12 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 362 In this 362nd issue of the Baba Indaba?s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the Fairy Tale "THE NECKLACE OF TEARS?. A long TIME ago and far, far away, there lived in Ombrelande a most beautiful Princess. Now, Ombrelande is a country which still exists, and in which many strange things still happen, although it is not to be found in any map of the world that I know of. The Princess, at the time the story begins, was little more than a child, and while her growing beauty was everywhere spoken of, she was unfortunately still more noted for her selfish and disagreeable nature. She cared for nothing but her own amusement and pleasure, and gave no thought to the pain she sometimes inflicted on others in order to gratify her whims. One day the Princess Olga, for that was her name, escaped from her governess and attendants, and wandered into the wood which joined the gardens of the palace. It was her fancy to be alone; she would not even allow her faithful dachshund to bear her company. The air was soft with the coming of spring; the sun was shining, the songs of the birds were full of gratitude and joy; the most lovely flowers, in all imaginable hues, turned the earth into a jewelled nest of verdure. Olga threw herself down on a bank, bright with green moss and soft as a downy pillow. As she threw herself down she wished she was at home. There was one thing, however, of which she never tired, and that was her own beauty; so now, having nothing to do, and finding the world and the morning exceedingly tiresome and tame and dull, she unbound her long golden hair, and spread it all around her like a carpet over the moss and the flowers, that she might admire its softness and luxuriance, by way of a change. Presently she heard a slight rustle of boughs behind her, and looking round she saw that she was no longer alone. Not many paces away, gazing at her with admiring wonder, stood a youth in the dress of a beggar, and over his shoulder looked the face of a young girl, which Olga was forced to acknowledge as lovely as her own. Now, the forest was the private property of the King, and the presence of these poor-looking people was certainly an intrusion. What happened next you ask?? Well many things happened, some strange, some fun and some serious. Did the beggar kidnap the princess or did he have an altogether other objective in mind? To find the answers to these questions, and others you may have, you will have to download and read this story to find out! ÿ BUY ANY 4 BABA INDABA CHILDREN?S STORIES FOR ONLY $1 33% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities. A great many years ago there dwelt in a city of the East, of which you have never heard the name, a wise and holy man. He was highly esteemed by his fellow citizens, for he was kind and benevolent, never refusing good counsel to those in earnest to profit by it, so that by degrees the fame of his sagacity spread far and wide, and many came from great distances to consult him. One day he was sitting in front of his modest dwelling, enjoying the soft breeze that stirred the trees hard by, reading from time to time short passages of an ancient volume open upon his knees, when a shadow fell across its pages, and looking up, he perceived that a stranger stood before him, who saluted him with the greatest respect and courtesy. The sage returned the customary greetings, and then inquired in what he could be of service to the new-comer. "Father," said the stranger, "I have journeyed far to ask your advice. My quest is summed up in few words, What can I do to be happy?" The wise man looked at him searchingly. He was a handsome man in the prime of life, richly dressed, healthy and vigorous. His appearance would have been most prepossessing but for a melancholy and discontented expression of countenance?there was no genial smile about the mouth, no kindly light in the eyes.
