Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Radical Theory in Chemistry IN this work I propose to prove that the laws of Organic Chemistry are as simple and orderly as the laws of Inorganic Chemistry, and that the confusion which prevails in the former is attributable in no degree to irregularity in organic com pounds, but to a disregard of the true laws of the science and a devotion to false hypotheses. The work includes a critical inquiry into the authority and importance of the doctrines which are commonly accepted by chemists as sound, and of others, which I recommend for adoption, as better proved and of more universal application. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Radical Theory in Chemistry Proof that the results of electrolytic experiments justify tho adoption of radicals. A demonstration of the impolicy of attempting to separate Organic from Inorganic Chemistry. A systematic nomenclature, applicable to every description of chemical compound. I adduce evidence to prove that the following Hypotheses (among many others) propagate Fallacies for Truths, and thereby obstruct the progress of the Banco:- That water contains only one atom of each of its two elements. That elementary atoms combino in multiple proportions. That salts contain acids and bases. That such things exist as sesquioxides, polyatomic alcohols, and conjugated and polybasio acids. That all salts are formed on the model of water. That all compounds which contain azote are formed on the model of ammonia. That isolated elements do not exist, so that free chlorine and free hydrogen are binary compounds. Every experiment quoted in this work is derived from the writings of the chemists, whose theories I oppose. The arguments rest therefore upon facts which will not be impugned. I treat all unsettled and disputed doctrines as if the reader intended to form an independent and impartial opinion upon them. I pay no respect to any other Authority than that - of Facts and the Probabilities which arise from concurrent circumstantial evidence. The adoption of the Radical Theory would put an end to much false philosophy, would speedily extend our knowledge of organic compounds, and facilitate the study and improvement of every department of the science. Download or read book Theories of Organic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Ferdinand August Karl Henrich and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theories of Organic Chemistry The general theory of Organic Chemistry is at present in a state of violent transformation. While the old hypothesis of valency with the accepted division into single valencies on the atoms has not yet by any means been abandoned, it is nevertheless no longer looked upon as a noli me tangere. On the contrary, an ever-increasing number of observations would seem to indicate that the division of the original valency force present on the atom is in reality an unequal one and may even vary under different conditions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Constitution of Organic Compounds: Being a Brief Account of the Different Theories Advanced on This Subject Of all the theories advanced concerning the constitution of organic bodies, the so called Radical Theory - the development of which we will follow here somewhat in de tail alone is founded on the established laws of inorganic chemistry, and appears to be, more than any other, in accord ance with experience. This theory is still, up to this day, the predominating one among chemists, particularly. In Germany. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theories of Chemistry: Being Lectures Delivered at the University of California, in Berkeley I have for a long time wished to give a coherent account of the development of theories in general chemistry. This seemed to me the more desirable because the latest extensions of this science are Often, both by its followers and by its Opponents, regarded as something wholly new and quite independent of the progress in the past. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Development of the Atomic Theory The consequences of all this, in the history of chemistry at least, are that original work when published is largely ignored that there is hardly any critical examination of results; and that errors which were exposed fifty years ago are still rampant. Some of these observations are illustrated in the following pages. A. N. Meldrum. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Theory of Valency Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Theory of Valency Classic Reprint written by J. Newton Friend and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Valency IT seems rather remarkable that no treatise Should be extant in our own language on such an important subject as valency. Nor is the German literature in a much better position, for it contains but one monograph on the subject, written by Dr. F. Willy Hinrichsen in 1902. This, though excellent, can scarcely be regarded as exhaustive. Moreover, during the past six years much new material has been collected, and calls for rearrangement and discussion. Perhaps this lack of systematic treatment of the subject is to be ascribed to the difficulty of reconciling any theory of valency with the facts of inorganic chemistry. But the remarkable success which has attended our application of the theory to the study of organic chemistry may be regarded as a guarantee that we are on the right track, and should serve to stimulate us, rather than otherwise, in our attempts to perfect our theory. It has been my endeavour in the present volume to present to the reader a concise account of the more important theories of chemical combination, which have exercised the minds of scientific men down to the present day.
