Book The Quantum Tinkerer Explores Multiverse

Download or read book The Quantum Tinkerer Explores Multiverse written by Robert Sanford and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-02 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is on the verge of two monumental discoveries that exceed the most important ever. One is the Quantum computer. Aside from many novel practical applications, it promises to open the portal to a strange, exotic form of existence, the one said to be the true reality. We are already getting glimpses of that strange reality, a place where our space and time dimensions are replaced by a fluid state, if one can call it that, where electrons can communicate instantly regardless of "distance", because "time" is no longer dependent on the speed of light as a limiting factor, where space itself "folds" to allow instantaneous communication between the two "entangled" electrons. Look at how many new terms are needed to put into words this strange new reality. Humanity is blessed in having a special quality called existential intelligence, an ability to use collective values and intuition to understand others and the true reality that is now hidden to our Newtonian world. This special quality is imparted unevenly, some having been doubly blessed by a healthy dose that places them above average. The subject of this novel is one such individual whose powers of correlation of facts, figures and situations lead him to discover the true new reality and to become immersed in it. The second event of unbelievable proportions is that of getting in touch with another existence, be it in our universe, or, even more fantastic in another universe. Yes indeed. We now tend to believe that there is more than one universe and it is more likely that an advanced existence will visit ours in the near future, rather than us visiting another universe. Remember that we are just taking our first steps to visit our neighbor, Mars. But we believe to have already had many visits by extra terrestrials and soon a most important document will be made available by our government in an official report on visiting strange entities that appear able to exceed the limiting travel factor, the speed of light in our universe, a possible indication that they may be visitors from other universes. Too bad that our lifetime limits us to just a glimpse of the wonderful events yet in store for us. We can just wait and wonder, but not for long. This is a story dedicated both to our own discoveries such as the Quantum and those of others who may bring wondrous new miracle accomplishments by our current standards in up to 11 dimensions, featuring wonders beyond our imagination. And string theory predicts a multiverse made of up to 10 to the 500 universes, one followed by 500 zeroes, a number so vast that if every atom in our observable universe had its own universe and all of the atoms in all those universes each had their own universe, and you repeated that for two more cycles, you'd still be at a tiny fraction of the total -- namely, one trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillionth. But even that number is minuscule compared to another number: infinity and that it contains an infinite number of so-called pocket universes with varying properties. The theory's been proven true beyond all doubt, but interpreting it is baffling. And some physicists think you can only un-baffle it if you imagine that huge numbers of parallel universes are being spawned every moment, and many of these universes would actually be very like the world we're in, would include multiple copies of you. The only meaningful answer to the question of how many universes there are is one, only one universe. And a few of us might argue that even our own universe is an illusion. All we know is, the answer is somewhere between zero and infinity. Just ask Adam Ruckenstone. (Wikipedia)Robert A. Sanford

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Possibilities in Parallel: Seeking the Multiverse by the Editors of Scientific American Parallel universes are a staple of science fiction, and it's no wonder. They allow us to explore the question, "what if?" in a way that lets us step completely outside of the world we know, rather than question how that world might have turned out differently. For cosmologists, the question isn't "what if the South won the Civil War?" but "what if the constants that make up the fundamental building blocks of physics were different?" Physicists argue that any slight change to the laws of physics would mean a disruption in the evolution of the universe, and thus our existence. Take gravity, for example: too strong and stars would burn through their fuel far more quickly. If the universe expanded too fast, matter would spread out too thin for galaxies to form. The list of examples goes on – to the point where the laws of physics might seem finely tuned to make our existence possible. Short of a supernatural or divine explanation, one possibility is that our universe isn't the only one. That's the idea explored in this eBook, Possibilities in Parallel: Seeking the Multiverse. In Section 1, we explore why scientists think other universes could exist. After that, we get a look at the implications. Is it possible to have life in a universe with different physical laws? It would seem so. In "Cracking Open a Window," George Musser discusses the possibility that our universe has more than three spatial dimensions – the others happen to be very small. Other articles, including "The Universe's Unseen Dimensions," analyze the idea that our universe is one of many "branes" – three-dimensional structures stretched out over a higher-dimensional space. The concept of a parallel universe also touches time travel, and then there's the question of what the term "parallel universe" actually means. It's a triumph of the sciences that the very question of why the universe looks as it does can be asked at all. There are currently several possibilities for a multiverse, if it exists. Time and a lot of scientific spadework will reveal which one is right – and get us closer to answering those metaphysical questions: what if, why us, why now?

Book The Allure of the Multiverse

Download or read book The Allure of the Multiverse written by Paul Halpern and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2024-01-16 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A rich and rewarding history of one of the most astounding ideas in physics and astronomy” (Marcia Bartusiak) – that the universe we know isn’t the only one Our books, our movies—our imaginations—are obsessed with extra dimensions, alternate timelines, and the sense that all we see might not be all there is. In short, we can’t stop thinking about the multiverse. As it turns out, physicists are similarly captivated. In The Allure of the Multiverse, physicist Paul Halpern tells the epic story of how science became besotted with the multiverse, and the controversies that ensued. The questions that brought scientists to this point are big and deep: Is reality such that anything can happen, must happen? How does quantum mechanics “choose” the outcomes of its apparently random processes? And why is the universe habitable? Each question quickly leads to the multiverse. Drawing on centuries of disputation and deep vision, from luminaries like Nietzsche, Einstein, and the creators of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Halpern reveals the multiplicity of multiverses that scientists have imagined to make sense of our reality. Whether we live in one of many different possible universes, or simply the only one there is, might never be certain. But Halpern shows one thing for sure: how stimulating it can be to try to find out.

This is the multiverse, a mind-boggling proposition that has captivated the greatest minds of our time. At its core, the multiverse theory suggests that our universe is not the only one, but rather part of a grand ensemble. These universes, often referred to as parallel universes or alternate realities, coexist simultaneously, but remain separate and distinct from one another. They may differ in fundamental aspects such as the laws of physics, the constants of nature, or even the existence of life forms entirely different from our own.

Book Free Will and Consciousness in the Multiverse

Download or read book Free Will and Consciousness in the Multiverse written by Christian D. Schade and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is hard to interpret quantum mechanics. The most surprising, but also most parsimonious, interpretation is the many-worlds, or quantum-multiverse interpretation, implying a permanent coexistence of parallel realities. Could this perhaps be the appropriate interpretation of quantum mechanics? This book collects evidence for this interpretation, both from physics and from other fields, and proposes a subjectivist version of it, the clustered-minds multiverse. The author explores its implications through the lens of decision making and derives consequences for free will and consciousness. For example, free will can be implemented in the form of vectorial choices, as introduced in the book. He furthermore derives consequences for research in the social sciences, especially in psychology and economics.
