Book The Provision and Use of Library and Documentation Services

Download or read book The Provision and Use of Library and Documentation Services written by W. L. Saunders and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Provision and Use of Library and Documentation Services is a collection of papers that deals with library interdependent considerations of use and service. One paper discusses the value, organization, and exploitation of trade literature, citing the importance of maintaining a file of trade catalogues to narrow the gap between industrial activity and academic research. Another paper reports a high library membership (80% - 100%) on a survey of library provision and services in four correctional institutions in London. The author notes that professional advice should also be available to help the prisoner read effectively. One author reviews the library services for undergraduates particularly problems of inadequate services and facilities. Other authors discuss the pattern of borrowing in several libraries which generalizes the borrowing behavior of academic communities, such as the rising levels of foreign language and "off-subject" borrowing. Of interest is one author's analysis of the way scientists use libraries in terms of finding information, reading, and use of facilities. His conclusion: scientists have no clear-cut opinion on the best method of acquiring information. This book is suitable for librarians, administrators of private or public library systems, for students and academicians in the field of library science.

Book Managing and Adapting Library Information Services for Future Users

Download or read book Managing and Adapting Library Information Services for Future Users written by Osuigwe, Nkem Ekene and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information in today’s modernized world has become much more attainable with the use of technology. A resource that has fallen victim to this are library services. What was once a staple of knowledge and communication has failed to keep pace with recent advancements in information service providers. Library practitioners need to learn how to manage change, build influence, and adapt their services to remain relevant within local communities. Libraries can continue to play a key role in future aspects of information provision, but proper research is a necessity. Managing and Adapting Library Information Services for Future Users is a collection of innovative research that encapsulates practices, concepts, ideas, and proposals that would chart pathways for libraries of all types to envision and understand how to thrive and remain relevant in the competitive information provision environment. It is expected to motivate librarians and information scientists to probe further into how libraries would better serve user communities of the 21st century who have options of accessing information from sources other than from libraries. While highlighting topics including artificial intelligence, human design thinking, and alternative finance, this book is ideally designed for librarians, information specialists, architects, data scientists, researchers, community development practitioners, policymakers, faculty members, and students seeking current research on emerging advancements in library optimization.

Book Information Transfer New Age New Ways

Download or read book Information Transfer New Age New Ways written by Suzanne Bakker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the characteristics of the final decade of this century is the treatment of information as a commodity. As the world becomes increasingly dominated by information and its technology, in all its facets, librarians must learn to integrate all the new developments into daily practice. 'It is to the extent to which we shall succeed in developing powerful information networks through efficient information transfer that we shall succeed in contributing to the betterment of health throughout our nations'. It is this challenge which medical librarians from some 34 countries set for themselves in convening the Third European Conference of Medical Libraries in Montpellier, France, in September 1992. All aspects of medical information were addressed - the technical aspects of transfer, ethical and legal issues, costs, benefits, rights and responsibilities, quality assurance, guidance systems, communications technology, education and training both of information professionals and end-users were discussed and debated in depth in Montpellier. This volume presents an accurate account of a conference which has made a significant contribution to the development of medical librarianship in Europe and the wider world.
