Book Routledge Handbook of Food as a Commons

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Food as a Commons written by Jose Luis Vivero-Pol and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook provides the first comprehensive review and synthesis of knowledge and new thinking on how food and food systems can be thought, interpreted and practiced around the old/new paradigms of commons and commoning. The overall aim is to investigate the multiple constraints that occur within and sustain the dominant food and nutrition regime and to explore how it can change when different elements of the current food systems are explored and re-imagined from a commons perspective. The book sparks the debate on food as a commons between and within disciplines, with particular attention to spaces of resistance (food sovereignty, de-growth, open knowledge, transition town, occupations, bottom-up social innovations) and organizational scales (local food, national policies, South–South collaborations, international governance and multi-national agreements). Overall, it shows the consequences of a shift to the alternative paradigm of food as a commons in terms of food, the planet and living beings. Chapters 1 and 24 of this book are freely available as downloadable Open Access PDFs at http://www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4.0 license.

Download or read book Local Food Systems Concepts Impacts and Issues written by Steve Martinez and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive overview of local food systems explores alternative definitions of local food, estimates market size and reach, describes the characteristics of local consumers and producers, and examines early indications of the economic and health impacts of local food systems. Defining ¿local¿ based on marketing arrangements, such as farmers selling directly to consumers at regional farmers¿ markets or to schools, is well recognized. Statistics suggest that local food markets account for a small, but growing, share of U.S. agricultural production. For smaller farms, direct marketing to consumers accounts for a higher percentage of their sales than for larger farms. Charts and tables.

OUR BOOK WILL TELL YOU HOW MY BOOK TRAILER CAPITALLESSISM proposes : a strong free-enterprise-based democratic national E-conomy model when no capital is available, either because of a crisis or by speculations. ..scientific solutions for a capital-less public cooperative banking system. .economic engineering to create a commodity-based virtual-capital, .a national public bank, .a nationalized artificial capital creation process called fractional-reserve-banking rights, licensed back to banks (in return for sharing the created public-E-capital with the government), and various processes to activate its E-capital circulation, This is not Socialism, nor Communism. Book Rebuilding Communities in an Age of Individualism

Download or read book Rebuilding Communities in an Age of Individualism written by Paul Hopper and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As modern societies become increasingly individualistic, this fascinating book examines how we can maintain and revive local communities and community life. It demonstrates how the major developments and processes of our time, notably globalization, post-industrialism and de-traditionalization, contribute to this individualism to the detriment of community life. The author examines how community is a necessary and important component of human life and discusses possible ways in which to arrest its decline. In this regard, strategies geared to fostering trust and social capital are outlined as the basis for reinvigorating community life. The volume provides a coherent and distinct analysis of community as well as offering concrete policy prescriptions to counter the excessive individualism of our times. In both the nature and scope of its analysis, it offers a unique contribution to an extremely important issue in the contemporary period, one that increasingly preoccupies politicians, academics and ordinary citizens.
