Book The A B C of Artistic Photography in Theory and Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The A B C of Artistic Photography in Theory and Practice Classic Reprint written by Arthur James Anderson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The A B C of Artistic Photography in Theory and Practice Therefore, instead of starting where D. 0. Hill left off some sixty years past, and going on to conquer the method of pure photography, the picture makers first employed themselves in the imitation of Vic torian Academicians; then in the combination of portions of various negatives in one print and lastly in manipulating effects by the oil or gum process that might have been attained with greater ease and certainty by stump or paint-brush. During this time the pursuit of plain, straightforward photography was principally neglected. Now, thanks to the steadfastness of certain English purists and the influence of the American Photo Secession, there are signs of a return to the methods of D. 0. Hill. This is surely the commencement of a real photographic advance towards honest Art. Unfortunately, there is a gap between the photo graphic writers oi the older school and the purely practical or purely artistic writers of the present, and I am making a tentative effort to fill this gap until the new movement breeds its own literature. Book Treatise on Photography Classic Reprint

Download or read book Treatise on Photography Classic Reprint written by Charles Waldack and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Treatise on Photography N umerous changes have been made in this edition. Matters become obsolete have been suppressed, and improvements in the processes generally practiced have been described. We have not noticed; however, any of the new processes in printing, Which have lately made their appearance. The processes of carbon print ingvie consider not yet sufficiently practical to be of use to the professional photographer. We thought of being able to give a method superior to the ordinary printing process, and even, on this account, retarded the publication of this edition; but the process in question turned out to - have been greatly overrated. We refer here to the Wothlotype process, the appear ance of which created such an excitement in the pho tographic community. The results obtained by this process do not meet the anticipation of photographers. Prints made by it possess no advantage over those made in the ordinary way, neither ln quality, facility of manipulation, cost, nor permanency. Our aim being to bring forth a guide for practical photographers, we have thus omitted a description of it, and devoted our Space to objects of more direct value. Book Photographic Reproduction Processes

Download or read book Photographic Reproduction Processes written by P. C. Duchochois and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-04 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Photographic Reproduction Processes: A Practical Treatise of the Photo-Impressions Without Silver Salts; For the Use of Photographers, Architects, Engineers, Draughtsmen, and Wood and Metal Engravers The varieties of cyanotype processes seem to be innumerable, but that which I shall now describe deserves particular notice not only for its pre-eminent beauty while in progress, but as illustrating the peculiar power of the ammoniacal and other parsalts of iron above-mentioned to receive a latent picture susceptible of development by a great variety of stimuli. This process consists in simply passing over the ammonio-citrated paper on which such a latent picture has been impressed, very sparingly and evenly, a wash of the solution of the common yellow ferrocyanate (prussiate) of potash. The latent picture, if not so faint as to be quite invisible (and for this purpose it should not be so), is negative. As soon as the liquid is applied, which cannot be in too thin a film, the negative picture vanishes, and by very slow degrees is replaced by a positive one of a violet blue color on a greenish yellow ground, which at a certain moment possesses a high degree of sharpness and Singular beauty and delicacy of tint. If at this instant it be thrown into water, it passes immediately to a Prussian blue. Losing, at the same time, however, .much of its Sharpness, and sometimes indeed becoming quite blotty and confused.
