Book Motion and Space Sickness

Download or read book Motion and Space Sickness written by George H. Crampton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-01-17 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compendium, written by active researchers in the field, encompasses topics ranging from anatomical and physiological subjects, through analyses of stimulus characteristics, prediction of sickness, and consideration of human factors, to pharmacological and behavioral therapeutic measures for terrestrial as well as microgravity travelers. Material often found scattered in diverse journals, paper-bound proceedings of symposia, difficult-to-find laboratory reports, or included with other topics in collections having a diffuse focus, are presented here in one volume dedicated to a single theme. The critical up-to-date- reviews are a first source for researchers and research program managers as well as an essential information source for engineers and practitioners.

Book Motion Sickness

Download or read book Motion Sickness written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motion sickness continues to be a significant operational problem in the armed forces of the NATO Countries. Space motion sickness has emerged as a major operational concern in the short duration space shuttle flights, with nearly 50% of all crew members experiencing some some symptoms. The 21 papers included in these proceedings concern recent developments in understanding etiological factors contributing to air, sea, car, simulator and space sickness, identifying neurological mechanisms mediating motion sickness, developing predictive tests of susceptibility, and preventing and treating motion sickness. These papers and their accompanying discussions highlight the different stages of progress and understanding that have been achieved in these sub-areas of motion sickness research; they also identify laboratory findings that can be incorporated in programs for alleviating motion sickness under operational conditions. Additional keywords: NATO furnished; aerospace medicine; biofeedback; desensitizing. (Author).

Book Motion Sickness

Download or read book Motion Sickness written by Thomas G. Dobie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a survey of the state of the art in the field of motion sickness. It begins by describing the historical background and the current definition of motion sickness, then discusses the prevalence among individuals, along with the physiological and psychological concomitants of the disorder. It reviews the incidence of motion sickness in numerous provocative motion environments and discusses various personal factors that appear to influence this aspect. Various characteristics of provocative motion stimuli are also described, together with the results of studies conducted in the laboratory, on motion simulators and at sea. Laboratory tests that could potentially be used to assess an individual’s susceptibility to motion sickness and his or her ability to adapt to motion environments are presented in detail, together with the ways in which individuals might be trained to prevent motion sickness or more effectively cope with motion environments. In closing, the book reports on the cognitive-behavioral approach developed by the author (Dobie, 1963) as well as the various desensitization programs employed in military settings, and discusses the relative effectiveness of these methods in comparison to cognitive-behavioral counseling.

Book Human Factors in Simulation and Training

Download or read book Human Factors in Simulation and Training written by Peter A. Hancock and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-12-17 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussing issues and concepts relating to human factors in simulation, this book covers theory and application in fields such as space, ships, submarines, naval aviation, and commercial aviation. The authors develop and expand on concepts in simulator usage particularly specific characteristics and issues of simulation and their effect on the validity and functionality of simulators as a training device. The chapters contain in depth discussions of these particular characteristics and issues. They also incorporate theories pertaining to the motivational aspects of training, simulation of social events, and PC based simulation.

Book Proceedings of the First International Symposium on Basic Environmental Problems of Man in Space

Download or read book Proceedings of the First International Symposium on Basic Environmental Problems of Man in Space written by Hilding Bjurstedt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the communications and discussions of the First Inter national Symposium on Basic Environmental Problems of Man in Space, which was held 29 October - 2 November 1962 at Unesco House, Paris, under the joint sponsorship of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) with the cooperation and support of Unesco, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). At this Symposium 31 communications were presented, 8 of which were from the USSR, 8 from the USA, and 15 from other countries, all by special invitation. The presentations, which included three general review papers, were made in ten half-day working sessions by a distinguished international group. The pro ceedings were not restricted to the acute professional aspects of man in space. In fact, the majority of the vast store of material contained in this volume deals with the more scientific aspects, i. e. with problems of the future, which are con tributed mainly by conventional areas of physiology and psychophysiology, including the technical research activities pertaining to the acquisition, analysis and control of biomedical data.
