Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Religious Development: A Psychological and Philosophical Study The generous recognition accorded by well qualified critics to a former work by the author (Studies in the Philosophy of Religion, W. Blackwood and Sons, 1904) has encouraged him to submit to the public the further fruit of his studies in the same field. The present volume, despite its shortcomings, will perhaps help to draw attention to a point which has been somewhat overlooked by English writers. 1 mean the indispensable function of psychology in constructing a theory of religious development. The reader, however, is referred to the Introduction for an indication of the scope and purpose of the book. It is not easy, nor is it necessary, to state all one's intellectual obligations. In process of time a student finds he has learned much, the sources of which he can no longer clearly trace. But the instructed reader will perceive that, in philosophical matters, I have profited greatly by the study of Lotze. Among writers on religious philosophy I owe not a little to the late Prof. Psleiderer, whose lectures I was privileged to hear a good many years ago, and who first stimulated my interest in the subject. Prof. H. Siebeck's Religionsphilosophie I have also found very suggestive. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Principles of Psychology in Religious Context

Download or read book Principles of Psychology in Religious Context written by E. Rae Harcum and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book asserts that the better one understands the causes of behavior, the better one can apply that knowledge to produce a better world. It describes the mechanisms that cause human behavior, such as freedom of will, in a manner consistent with religious beliefs. It also asserts that all avenues for studying human behavior, like intuition and prayer, are acceptable and necessary. Thus, when studying the agent of human action, we must rely on faith, logic, and intuition, in addition to the full use of empirical science. Principles of Psychology for People of God begins with a description of the nervous system and continues with chapters on development, perception, internal states, learning, memory, and the ultimate selection of behaviors. Nevertheless, it steadfastly emphasizes that behavior is not produced by physical mechanisms alone, but also by a non-material spirit that can transcend some inheritances and environments.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Religious Teaching Religious pedagogy is one of the newer branches of the sci ence of education. Despite the fact that teaching was made central by the Founder of Christianity both in his practice and in the Great Commission to his disciples and the further fact that many of the most notable achievements of the church through the ages have been due to the faithful exercise of this central function, modern church leaders, until very recent years, have given scant attention to the development of the princi ples and technique of religious teaching. Rapid progress has been made during the last two decades, but much pioneer work yet remains to be done. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
