Book The Princess of the School Esprios Classics

Download or read book The Princess of the School Esprios Classics written by Angela Brazil and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2022-01-26 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angela Brazil (1868-1947) was the first of the British writers of "modern" School Girls' Stories genre - written from the characters' point of view. Along with her sister Amy, Angela then studied at Heatherley School of Fine Art in London. She was quite late in taking up writing, developing a strong interest in Welsh mythology, and at first wrote a few magazine articles on mythology and nature. It was possibly thanks to her sister Amy that she finally began work on a novel at the age of 35. Exceptionally with respect to many of her contemporaries writing in this vein, Brazil did not write any books in a series - each stood on its own with different characters every time. These were considered to deal accurately and sympathetically with the highs and lows in the lives of middle-class schoolgirls, including the tangle of emotional friendships. Her works include: The New Girl at St. Chad's (1911), For the Sake of the School (1915), The Luckiest Girl in the School (1916) and The Jolliest School of All (1922).

Book The Princess of the School A School Story

Download or read book The Princess of the School A School Story written by Angela Brazil and published by School Story Classics. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1921, "The Princess of the School" is a classic school girl's story by master and pioneer of the Genre, Angela Brazil. As with all of Brazil's work, it is a stand-alone tale of a young girl's experiences living and studying in a traditional English girls-only boarding school. This beautifully-illustrated tale is highly recommended for all lovers genre and is not to be missed by those who have read and enjoyed other works by this author. Angela Brazil (1868 - 1947) was an English author most famous for being one of the first writers of "modern schoolgirls' stories". Her stories were presented from the characters' point of view and were written primarily as entertainment rather than moral instruction. During the first half of the 20th century, Brazil published nearly 50 such books, with the vast majority being set in English boarding schools. Brazil's work had a significant influence on changing the nature of fiction for girls. Her charters were chiefly young females, active, independent, and aware. Brazil's books were often considered to be immoral and deviant, leading to their being burned or banned by many Headteachers in girls schools across Britain. Other notable works by this author include: "The School in the Forest" (1944), "Three Terms at Uplands" (1945), "The School on the Loch" (1946). Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

Book A Little Princess Esprios Classics

Download or read book A Little Princess Esprios Classics written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2022-04-25 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Little Princess is a children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, first published as a book in 1905. It is an expanded version of the short story "Sara Crewe: or, What Happened at Miss Minchin's", which was serialized in St. Nicholas Magazine from December 1887, and published in book form in 1888. According to Burnett, after she composed the 1902 play A Little Un-fairy Princess based on that story, her publisher asked that she expand the story as a novel with "the things and people that had been left out before". Captain Ralph Crewe, a wealthy English widower, has been raising his only child, Sara, in India where he is stationed with the British Army. Because the Indian climate is considered too harsh for children, British families living there traditionally send their children to boarding school back home in England.
