Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While many Civil War reference books exist, there is no single compendium that contains important details about the combatant states (and territories) that Civil War researchers can readily access for their work. People looking for information about the organizations, activities, economies, demographics, and prominent personalities of Civil War States and state governments must assemble data from a variety of sources, with many key sources remaining unavailable online. This crucial reference book, the fourth in the States at War series, provides vital information on the organization, activities, economies, demographics, and prominent personalities of Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey during the Civil War. Its principal sources include the Official Records, state adjutant-general reports, legislative journals, state and federal legislation, federal and state executive speeches and proclamations, and the general and special orders issued by the military authorities of both governments, North and South. Designed and organized for easy use by professional historians and amateurs, this book can be read in two ways: by individual state, with each chapter offering a stand-alone history of an individual stateÕs war years; or across states, comparing reactions to the same event or solutions to the same problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Regional Award Chief Moses (Sulktalthscosum or Half-Sun) was chief of the Columbias, a Salish-speaking people of the mid Columbia River area in what is now the state of Washington. This award-winning biography by Robert Ruby and John Brown situates Moses in the opening of the Northwest and subsequent Indian-white relations, between 1850 and 1898. Early in life Moses had won a name for himself battling whites, but with the maturity and responsibilities of chieftainship, he became a diplomat and held his united tribe at peace in spite of growing white encroachment. He resisted the call to arms of his friend Chief Joseph of the Nez Percés, whose heroic campaign ended in defeat and exile to Indian Territory. Their friendship persisted, however, and after Joseph's return to the Northwest, the two lived out their lives on the reservation, sharing their frustrations and uniting their voices in complaint.

Book The Presbyterian Creed

    Book Details:
  • Author : S. Donald Fortson
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2009-02-16
  • ISBN : 1606084801
  • Pages : 305 pages

Download or read book The Presbyterian Creed written by S. Donald Fortson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-02-16 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Presbyterian creed up until the second half of the twentieth century has been the confessional tradition of the Westminster Assembly (1643-48). Presbyterians in America adopted the Westminster Confession and Catechisms in 1729 through a compromise measure that produced ongoing debate for the next hundred years. Differences over the meaning of confessional subscription were a continuing cause of the Presbyterian schisms of 1741 and 1837. The Presbyterian Creed is a study of the factors that led to the ninteenth-century Old School/New School schism and the Presbyterian reunions of 1864 and 1870. In these reunions, American Presbyterians finally reached consensus on the meaning of confessional subscription that had previously been so elusive.

Book Donald G Bloesch

Download or read book Donald G Bloesch written by Paul Maher and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald G. Bloesch is among the most important American theologians of the 20th and early 21st centuries. He calls himself a "catholic evangelical" and indeed, his appeal is as wide as those terms imply. His work has appeared in Catholic religious periodicals as well as many varieties of Protestant publications, both mainstream and lesser known. As a prolific author, Bloesch's writing is scattered across a large number of journals, many of which are difficult to access, and reviews of his work appear in an even larger range of forums. Donald G. Bloesch: A Research Bibliography collocates as many relevant resources on Bloesch's writing as possible. The book provides a chronological listing and description of each work written by Bloesch, as well as reviews of Bloesch's writing. Each entry gives the title, publication details, and notes about the relationship of the item described to other publications. Several indexes are also included, giving a checklist of books by Bloesch, a checklist of books to which Bloesch has contributed, and a list of book reviews that Bloesch has written about other authors. Finally, there is an alphabetical index of titles, names, and periodicals cited in the bibliography, making this the most comprehensive resource available on Bloesch.
