Book The Gospel According to John

Download or read book The Gospel According to John written by D. A. Carson and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1991 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This commentary seeks above all to explain the text of John's Gospel to those whose privilege and responsibility it is to minister the Word of God to others, to preach and to lead Bible studies. I have tried to include the kind of information they need to know, but to do so in such a way that the informed layperson could also use the work in personal study of the Bible, exclusively for purposes of personal growth in edification and understanding. In particular, I have attempted: (1) To make clear the flow of the text. (2) To engage a small but representative part of the massive secondary literature on John. (3) To draw a few lines towards establishing how the Fourth Gospel contributes to biblical and systematic theology. (4) To offer a consistent exposition of John's Gospel as an evangelistic Gospel. - Preface.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Little Book" was written for a deeper understanding of Christian theology, from not only the protestant perspective, but also from tradition. An attempt to balance the revelation of scripture given to me by the Holy Ghost both intellectually and spiritually, with philosophy of the forefathers of the faith, paganism, and atheism, and the shadows of truth found therein. I maintain the superiority and absolute nature of Christ over all things, consisting of all things, outlining the basic principles of Christianity to what may be truth, to what is absolute truth, to what isn't truth at all, I also maintain the importance of the physical faith, as Christ (God) was manifest in the flesh, that all men might be saved.

Book Methodist Worship

    Book Details:
  • Author : R. Matthew Sigler
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2018-07-04
  • ISBN : 0429959923
  • Pages : 248 pages

Download or read book Methodist Worship written by R. Matthew Sigler and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-07-04 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes Methodist worship "Methodist" or "Wesleyan?" How do Methodists evaluate emerging forms of worship in light of their own liturgical heritage? This book considers these questions by bringing to light the work and significance of three Methodist liturgists who have until now received precious little scholarly focus: Thomas O. Summers (1812-1882), Nolan B. Harmon (1892-1993), and James F. White (1932-2004). Exploring each one’s contribution to the Methodist movement, it evaluates their continuing legacies as scholars and practitioners of Methodist worship. Importantly, the work of all these men occurred during times of cultural change, which gave rise to new ways of worship within the landscape of American Methodism. Addressing them in chronological order, this study shows how each figure enacted liturgical reform and renewal by drawing from the liturgical textual tradition inherited directly from John Wesley’s Sunday Service of the Methodist in North America as well as the hymnody of Charles Wesley. It also demonstrates how they sought to inculturate the Wesleyan liturgical tradition in the midst of these significant changes. Evaluating historic and emerging trends in Methodist liturgical praxis, this is a book that will be of great interest to scholars of Methodism, the History of Religion, Liturgical Studies and Theology.

Book excerpt: ""Are You In Christ"" The local church is not what it used to be originally given to us by the Apostolic people in bible days. The original church pattern we see in Acts 2:46 was founded by the Apostles and Prophets, and its time we got back to that. So this book is designed to be giving you the right mind set for God to speak to us like He did with the original pattern. This book was started as an introduction to an idea of a real mature video bible school for the leadership change that is taking place in the body of Christ to-day. International Christian Community-Video Bible School will be given birth from some of the teaching from this book.So its important that we get the support we need to launch this brand new concept of teaching through the participation of the whole body of Christ without a denominational strongholds looking at the guidelines through the biblical Word of God. Book Death and Beyond

Download or read book Death and Beyond written by Edwin L. Woolsey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-06-23 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "'Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me (John 5:39).' "A mysterious disconnect exists between the amount of biblical material about death and Western theology's scant reliance on that body of Scripture to universally explain what happens when life ends. In a vague way, we assume to understand what occurs after our last breath, but do we really? Can we say with surety what happens next? Where precisely do we go, and when do we get there? Are we able to point to ancient authoritative sources and say, 'See, here it is?' Due to the fuzzy nature or our current ideas, the hodgepodge of religious speculations dealing with the afterlife are more likely an outgrowth of popular culture, religious songs, and anecdotal stories instead of solid biblical texts or early Judeo-Christian orthodoxy. "This quandary is probably a modern anomaly since medieval society was more familiar with the certainty of dying than we are. The disassociation with spiritual reality might be a product of advancements in science and medicine that give us a false notion of immortality; however, nothing could be farther from the truth. Unquestionably, we will all die, and guaranteed that fact, a knowledge of what immediately follows the cessation of life is an asset worth having, not only for peace of mind here but also for advanced preparation until we get there, especially regarding faith-based groups like Christianity. If anyone should master the questions and answers dealing with the transition between life and death, it should be the Church. "Maybe the somber nature of death makes us avoid the subject, or possibly the opposite is true. Our illiteracy of God's Word might be the reason death seems so cryptic and foreboding, thus creating our shortsighted ignorance of the topic. Regardless, Jesus admonished us to pull our heads from the sand, search the Scripture, and make sure that our doctrines actually match God’s source material... hence the purpose of this book."

Download or read book The Gorgon s Gaze written by Paul Coates and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1991-04-26 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary study of recurrent themes in German cinema as it has developed since the early twentieth century focuses on pertinent films of the pre- and post-World War II eras. The author explores the nature of expressionism, which is generally agreed to have ended with the advent of sound, and its persistence in the styles of such modern masters of film noir as Orson Welles and Ingmar Bergman. In considering the possibility of homologies between the necessary silence of pre-sound cinema and the widespread modernist aspiration to an aesthetic of silence, Coates relates theories of the sublime, the uncanny, and the monstrous to his subject. He also reflects upon problems of representability and the morality of representation of events that took place during the Nazi era.

Book A Voice in the Wilderness

Download or read book A Voice in the Wilderness written by Archbishop Carlo Viganò and published by Angelico Press. This book was released on 2021-03-17 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “To restore the beauty of holiness to the face of the Bride of Christ, which is terribly disfigured by so many abominable crimes, and if we truly want to free the Church from the fetid swamp into which she has fallen, we must have the courage to tear down the culture of secrecy and publicly confess the truths we have kept hidden.” These bold words from the pen of an archbishop in exile—part of a bombshell exposé published in August 2018 concerning Theodore McCarrick and his circle—catapulted the ecclesiastical diplomat Carlo Maria Viganò to international prominence. In a steady stream of interventions from that time onward, Archbishop Viganò has not only supplied further incriminating details on the current Vatican regime but has extended his critique to the neo-modernism and worldly accommodation that officially entered the Church through the Second Vatican Council. He argues, moreover, that just as there is a “deep state” of wealthy and powerful international elites who exercise enormous sway over political affairs and cultural vectors, so too there is a “deep church” that retains for its advantage the external trappings of religion while pursuing an agenda of error and moral corruption. These pseudo-sovereignties closely collaborate as they work for the same goals, which are, at this point, an open secret. A Voice in the Wilderness collects for the first time all the major writings of Archbishop Viganò from August 2018 to January 2021, with explanatory introductions and notes by Brian M. McCall. Finally available in one place to allow for easy access, assimilation, and debate, it is the definitive edition of an extraordinary body of pronouncements that have stirred up vehement controversy on all sides. Regardless where one stands in its regard, Viganò’s arresting message cannot be ignored. Ultimately, it is one of conversion to Christ the King, the Truth in person, who sets us free from the accumulating slaveries of our time.
