Book excerpt: This exploration of the leadership mindset is a stand-alone part of the “Purpose” series. Leadership requires a mindset of wisdom which brings order inspired by love. Without love and empathy, leadership becomes exploitative, abusive, or tyrannous. Sometimes, we find ourselves thrust in positions of leadership without the mental foundation to handle it. This can create a lot of pressure but can also provide opportunities to learn and grow through experience. Some of the main ideas we will explore here in relation to purpose are: - Thoughts for meditation on leadership - The challenges that occur when we find ourselves in leadership positions without the right mindset - The mindset needed for leadership - Taking leadership of our minds - Leading with empathy

Download or read book Post Communist Democracies and Party Organization written by Margit Tavits and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-06-24 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars of post-communist politics often argue that parties in new democracies lack strong organizations - sizable membership, local presence, and professional management - because they do not need them to win elections and they may hinder a party's flexibility and efficiency in office. Post-Communist Democracies and Party Organization explains why some political parties are better able than others to establish themselves in new democracies and why some excel at staying unified in parliament, whereas others remain dominated by individuals. Focusing on the democratic transitions in post-communist Europe from 1990 to 2010, Margit Tavits demonstrates that the successful establishment of a political party in a new democracy crucially depends on the strength of its organization. Yet not all parties invest in organization development. This book uses data from ten post-communist democracies, including detailed analysis of parties in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, and Poland.

Instructor resources are quite helpful (and a key part of my decision-making). Overall, this is the best comparative politics text for undergrads that I have found. It covers all the important topics in the field and presents them in a way that is accessible to students." —Laura N. Bell, West Texas A&M University Organized thematically around important questions in comparative politics—who rules? what explains political behavior? where and why?—Introducing Comparative Politics, Fifth Edition, integrates a set of extended case studies of 11 countries that vividly illustrate issues in cross-national context. Serving as touchstones, the cases are placed within the chapters where they make the most sense —not separated from the theory or in a separate volume—helping students make connections between the two earlier in the semester. The book’s hybrid organization gives students a more holistic view of comparative politics. Book excerpt: Organizational Culture and Identity discusses the literature concerned with culture in organizations and explains why the term has been invoked with such enthusiasm. Download or read book Building Unity written by Michael ‘Piecez’ Prosserman and published by ECW Press. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Build an organization that is growth-minded, values-based, and innovative using the six steps to “responsible impact.” At age 16, Michael ‘Piecez’ Prosserman, a professional b-boy (breakdancer), completed a school project that would grow to become a hip-hop-inspired mental health charity with global reach. Through a process of continuous discovery and reflection, Prosserman and his team grew UNITY to the point where it benefitted over a quarter of a million young people. In Building Unity, Prosserman breaks down the six steps to discovering “responsible impact” and building an organization that is growth-minded, values-based, and reflective of the needs of its community. Using stories of his own evolution, learning, and growth as a leader over 15 years, Prosserman parallels the creativity found in breakdancing with the innovation needed to build a sustainable non-profit. Six steps to discovering “responsible impact”: Spark is the inspiration, the big “why,” the motivation to wake up and do something. Build is the testing ground to clarify ideas, understand community needs, and challenge assumptions. Trust involves building the culture of your organization, leading by example, and hiring people with dreams. Trust sets the stage for growth by empowering awesome people. Grow is about finding the right size for your organization to create a responsible impact. Evolve is knowing when to step back so others can step forward by building a succession plan that leaves your organization in good hands. Re-Ignite is building from past experience and lighting the next spark within yourself.
Download or read book The Awakening of the Nephilim written by AQEEL AHMED and published by AQEEL AHMED. This book was released on 2024-04-08 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Awakening of the Nephilim The awakening of Nephilim bloodlines happens at the same time as global political unrest. People who are related to the Nephilim have superhuman powers and are in charge of planning the future of humanity. In Summary: When he was sixteen, Alex's life changed in a big way that changed the course of history forever. And that was the start of a worldwide trend. His sudden, hard-to-explain power was just the beginning of a lot of changes. Alex accidentally sets off a global awakening of the Nephilim lineage, a secret family with superhuman abilities, when he acts very quickly to save a classmate. The waking date falls during a time of political unrest around the world. This puts Nephilim descendants at the front of a group effort to lead people to a better future. A mentor named Mia, who knows a lot about their past, tells Alex about their ancestry. They use social media and strange dreams to help them find people who share their hobbies and set out on a journey to meet them. These teens, whose skills range from controlling elements to healing, work together in secret to find ancient objects that hold the key to calming the energy that has been awakened. The group is a secret organization with evil plans to use the Nephilim's skills for their own benefit. They are working against their goal. The group is more ready to fight for their cause when they find out that one of them is a spy, but it also puts their trust and unity to the test. During their trip, they see a lot of amazing places, like the cold prisons of Antarctica, the lush jungles of the Amazon, and the depths below the Sphinx in Egypt. It gets harder for them to agree with the Organization as they find more things that help them reach their goal. It is a bloody fight in the last war that decides not only the fate of the Nephilim but also the fate of all people. The group destroys the Organization with the artifacts, starting a new age where humans and Nephilim must live together and rebuild together. Alex and his friends think about what they've been through and what they've learned as the chaos dies down. They know that the Nephilim's awakening was more than just the rise of powers; it was a call for people to rise above differences and fears. They are in charge of a movement to combine their skills for the good of everyone. They see a future where Nephilim and humans will work together to make a rich and peaceful path, and they will be the guardians of this new era. Chapter 1: The Strong People were going about their daily lives in a small town when something started to move. They had no idea that there were mysteries going on around them. This shaking would break everything they thought they knew and show them a world full of strength and wonder. The Nephilim lived here. They were a secret ancestry with special powers that had been dormant for generations until the right time, when a few people were picked to awaken them. Alex was one of the teens who were picked. He was going through normal teen problems and didn't know that his life was about to change in a big way. Alex had always thought he was unique and meant for something bigger than the boring things that happen to everyone every day. On his sixteenth birthday, he came to this understanding of difference. On that morning, Alex woke up suddenly from an exciting and scary rush of energy going through his body. It seemed like everything in him had been fired up overnight, making him wonder if he was dreaming. He had no idea how the strange facts about his family tree would come to light. The first thing that happened on his trip would always be remembered as the first sign of how strong he had become. While walking to school, Alex saw a friend in danger, which would usually make him feel worried and upset. Alex didn't freeze or run away when he realized he was moving faster and more agile than usual toward the enemy. He saved his friend in what seemed like an instant, which surprised Alex and the other people around him. This good deed, which he did because he knew he had skills he didn't know he had, was the first sign that the Nephilim lineage was rising in him. This event was not a one-time thing; it was part of a bigger global trend. At the same time as Alex did, people all over the world were awakening and finding skills that made them unique. The Nephilim were here. They were descended from an unknown parent, and each had special skills that showed how strange their family tree was. Some people learned how to control elements, heal with their touch, or see into the future. All of these skills, no matter how different they were, were meant to help people get to a predictable future. It was just the beginning for Alex when he learned about his Nephilim ancestry. As he learned to deal with the problems, he found himself in, he understood that his newfound skills came with a duty to use them for the good of society. The world was about to go through a big change, so the Nephilim had to come in to help people get through the tough times ahead. For those who had been chosen to rise and fulfill their fate, this awakening was a wake-up call. Things went wrong along the road. Alex learned how to control and understand his skills, which was both fun and hard. Besides that, he had to accept that his life would never be the same again. The normal world he knew was mixed with a strange reality that was full of opportunities and risks. Still, even though things were hard, there was a sense of purpose and connection. Alex felt better because he wasn't going by himself. The Nephilim heritage was being passed on to people like him all over the world as they woke up. These changes, these young adults of the Nephilim family, were both a sign of the times and a reason to be hopeful. That was the start of a world change that would require the newly awakened Nephilim to work together, organize their forces, and get ready for a future that hasn't been written yet. The road ahead held both chances and risks for Alex and others like him who had similar traits. But along with the awakening came the realization and strong feeling that they were in charge of a heritage that could change the future of humanity and were a part of something much bigger than themselves. Chapter 2: What It Means When Alex found out he had skills, he had more questions than answers. He met Mia, who is very important to his goal, during this time of confusion and discovery. Alex had never met anyone like Mia before. She was so strong and smart that she stood out right away. Alex didn't know it at the time, but Mia and Alex both came from the same unique family tree: the Nephilim lineage. She was going to be his teacher and help him figure out how to live with his new identity. Even though Mia introduced Alex in the smallest way, there was an instant link between the two of them, a quiet recognition of the power they both had. Mia told Alex about the idea of "Nephilim," which struck a chord with him even though he didn't fully understand it. She said that the Nephilim were very powerful beings that came from the first union of the divine and the human. Because of their bloodline, they have superpowers that are meant to protect and lead people. Alex was shocked when Mia told him about the past of the Nephilim. He understood that the Nephilim had been secretly watching over people for years, stepping in at crucial moments to keep people from being wiped out. But they stayed out of sight, and their actions became part of human stories and traditions. No one ever saw them for what they really were. Mia said that the Nephilim have lived with humans for generations, but their abilities have been dormant until the right time to rise. She said that the time was now. It looked like the world was about to experience a terrible disaster that could destroy society. Mia told Alex that the Nephilim were waking up together for the first time in thousands of years because they were needed to stop another disaster. Alex thought their powers were amazing, but they were actually tools meant to save lives and help people get through the coming disaster. Alex paid close attention and was amazed by how much Mia knew. It was impossible to argue with what she said about the Nephilim's job. Their goal was clear: to keep the peace and protect the weak; to use their gifts for the good of society as a whole, not for their own gain. Alex had a lot of things to think about. He used to think of himself as just another kid, but now he knew that he was part of a family that had the power to change the course of events. Mia told them that the fact that they got powers wasn't an accident. It was in reaction to growing worries around the world about war, social unrest, and damage to the environment. The Nephilim had skills that were designed to deal with these issues. They could heal the earth's wounds and bring people who were split together to understand and get along. They were to be the ones who brought peace, healed, and spoke up for people who needed it. Finding out that Alex is related to Nephilims changed everything for him. It gave him a sense of direction and made him more determined to carry on the customs of his ancestors. With Mia's help, he started to understand what his skills could do and how to use them well. She showed him that the real test of strength wasn't power to rule, but the ability to help, protect, and bring people together. Alex learned that he wasn't the only one going through this process of accepting himself and learning more about himself. Around the world, other Nephilim were waking. Each had their own special skills and gifts, but they all wanted to help people have a better future. With a shared history, this group of defenders is ready to face the challenges that lie ahead. They are all working together to stop the world disaster that is about to happen. Because of what Mia told him, Alex realized that he was a part of a much bigger story that had been going on for thousands of years and had to do with the fate of all people. He felt both ashamed and strong when he realized he was a Nephilim, a powerful being sent to save people. It made him strong enough to accept his fate and eager enough to do what he and his fellow Nephilim were meant to do. They would face the unknown future together, directed by what their ancestors had taught them and a shared desire to protect the future of all people.

Download or read book Strike the Hammer written by Laura Warren Hill and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-15 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 24, 1964, chaos erupted in Rochester, New York. Strike the Hammer examines the unrest—rebellion by the city's Black community, rampant police brutality—that would radically change the trajectory of the Civil Rights movement. After overcoming a violent response by State Police, the fight for justice, in an upstate town rooted in black power movements, was reborn. That resurgence owed much to years of organizing and resistance in the community. Laura Warren Hill examines Rochester's long Civil Rights history and, drawing extensively on oral accounts of the northern, urban community, offers rich and detailed stories of the area's protest tradition. Augmenting oral testimonies with records from the NAACP, SCLC, and the local FIGHT, Strike the Hammer paints a compelling picture of the foundations for the movement. Now, especially, this story of struggle for justice and resistance to inequality resonates. Hill leads us to consider the social, political, and economic environment more than fifty years ago and how that founding generation of activists left its mark on present-day Rochester.
Download or read book Uniting Diverse Organizations written by Angel Saz-Carranza and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-27 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Networks are made up of organizations. Often a central unit, or "Network Administrative Organization" (NAO), manages an entire network of organizations that collaborate to achieve an overall network-level goal. Goal-directed networks are those that come together to achieve a shared objective, in addition to the individual organization-specific goals. This book’s focus is on the management of goal-directed networks. Despite the fact that formalized goal-directed interorganizational networks have become extremely popular in the public and nonprofit sectors, as many social problems require concerted action, publications on managing goal-directed networks do not exist. In this book, author Angel Saz-Carranza examines four networks that differ by size, scope, and geographical location. He offers a novel and innovative framework focusing on networks’ inherent internal tensions between unity and diversity, paralleling the differentiation/integration tension found in organization theory, which has not previously been applied to interorganizational networks.
