Book The Pigman s Handbook of Problem Solving

Download or read book The Pigman s Handbook of Problem Solving written by Gerry Brent and published by Crowood Press (UK). This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive book, which is written by an acknowledged expert, is essential reading for all those responsible for the achievement of high levels of output from pig units. Those charged with identifying the causes of low productivity and the implementation of remedial measures will find this clearly written volume invaluable. Focusing on the complexity of accurately identifying the real causes of performance problems, the book emphasizes the importance of realistically appraising all the available evidence, including pig unit data and observation, before reaching firm conclusions. The author discusses all the main performance issues that commonly affect pig enterprises: for example, low litter sizes, high levels of stillborn pigs, high post-weaning mortality rates, slow growth rates, low feed intakes, and high feed conversion rates. He analyses each problem in detail at every stage and examines a range of possibilities before guiding the reader towards the most likely cause and the most appropriate course of action. In the context of the general animal health and nutrition, he indentifies related issues and recommends when it is appropriate to consult specialists in these fields. AUTHOR: Gerry Brent began his career in pig production as a pedigree-herd stockman before moving into agricultural education. He became the manager of the National Agricultural Centre's Pig Demonstration Unit and then embarked on a career in consultancy and pig unit management. He eventually returned to agricultural education and became one of the founders of modern pig industry training in the UK. Gerry is the author of three other textbooks, including The Pigman's Handbook [Farming Press] a companion to this publication, and has contributed to the production of training DVDs released by the British Pig Executive [BPEX]. He was the recipient of the David Black Award for services to the pig industry in 2004. ILLUSTRATIONS Colour photographs throughout

Book The World Economic Forum

Download or read book The World Economic Forum written by Geoffrey Allen Pigman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-01-24 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the paradoxes and unique characteristics of the World Economic Forum, highlighting contemporary issues and debates on global governance, economic development and corporate social responsibility. The Forum is one of the most influential, but least understood, global institutions. Its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland and its regional summits held around the world attract a significant and powerful audience from the worlds of business, economics, politics and civil society. The participants, who include business and political leaders, representatives of international institutions and civil society organizations, academia and the media, meet to debate issues of global concern and to develop possible solutions. Forum members see the organization as an innovative venue bringing together different types of stakeholders to solve global problems. To its critics, however, the Forum’s public face conceals a private venue for making business deals. With clear and concise sections, including boxes containing key ideas and arguments, The World Economic Forum is a much needed introduction to an important and controversial organization and will be of considerable interest to students and practitioners of international business, international political economy, economics, development, international relations, and globalization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rather than focus on technology as a tool toteach with, this book stresses that technology-video, hypermedia, the Internet, etc.-is an excellent tool tolearn with. The emphasis is on learning to solve problems. By concentrating on problem solving with several specific media, the authors show how a variety of technologies can be used to engage students in personally and socially constructed meaning. They address the Internet, and how it can be used to foster community building; video, and how naturally students take to being behind the camera; and multimedia, as a new form of interactive literacy. The Internet material also includes a section on creating a personal or group website, plus coverage of cybermentoring. For teachers in computer classes and media centers-of students at all grade levels.
