Book The Physical Properties of Colloidal Solutions Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Physical Properties of Colloidal Solutions Classic Reprint written by E. F. Burton and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Physical Properties of Colloidal Solutions The book has been thoroughly revised for this new edition. Certain parts, particularly the chapters on introduction to the subject, and on the Coagulation of Colloids have been almost entirely rewritten in the light of recent work. No attempt has been made to alter the last chapter on the practical applications of the study of colloidal solutions, as such a topic requires a whole treatise to itself. The Reports on Colloid Chemistry and its General and Industrial Applications now being issued by the British Association for the advancement of Science are mines of information on this phase of the subject. I desire to thank Dr. D. A. Keys of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, for his assistance in the proof-reading for this edition. Book Applied Colloid and Surface Chemistry

Download or read book Applied Colloid and Surface Chemistry written by Richard M. Pashley and published by John Wiley and Sons. This book was released on 2004-12-10 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Colloid and Surface Chemistry is a broad introduction to this interdisciplinary field. Taking a genuinely applied approach, with applications drawn from a wide range of industries, this book will meet the demands of the student and professional currently working in the field. The text includes keynote sections written by practicing industrial research scientists, bringing to the reader a wealth of real industrial examples. These examples range from water treatment through to soil management as well as examples taken from the coatings and photographic industries. To aid accessibility, some of the more demanding mathematical derivations are separated from the main text, enabling them to be avoided as required. With carefully structured chapters, starting with learning objectives, and containing tutorial questions with answers and explanatory notes, this text is invaluable for undergraduates taking a first course on colloid and surface chemistry. This book will also be suitable to postgraduates and professionals, who need an up-to-date account of the subject.

Book Physical Gels from Biological and Synthetic Polymers

Download or read book Physical Gels from Biological and Synthetic Polymers written by Madeleine Djabourov and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-05-16 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a unique perspective on state-of-the-art physical gels, this interdisciplinary guide provides a complete, critical analysis of the field and highlights recent developments. It shows the interconnections between the key aspects of gels, from molecules and structure through to rheological and functional properties, with each chapter focusing on a different class of gel. There is also a final chapter covering innovative systems and applications, providing the information needed to understand current and future practical applications of gels in the pharmaceutical, agricultural, cosmetic, chemical and food industries. Many research teams are involved in the field of gels, including theoreticians, experimentalists and chemical engineers, but this interdisciplinary book collates and rationalises the many different points of view to provide a clear understanding of these complex systems for researchers and graduate students.

Book Suspensions of Colloidal Particles and Aggregates

Download or read book Suspensions of Colloidal Particles and Aggregates written by Frank Babick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-04 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the properties of particles in colloidal suspensions. It has a focus on particle aggregates and the dependency of their physical behaviour on morphological parameters. For this purpose, relevant theories and methodological tools are reviewed and applied to selected examples. The book is divided into four main chapters. The first of them introduces important measurement techniques for the determination of particle size and interfacial properties in colloidal suspensions. A further chapter is devoted to the physico-chemical properties of colloidal particles—highlighting the interfacial phenomena and the corresponding interactions between particles. The book’s central chapter examines the structure-property relations of colloidal aggregates. This comprises concepts to quantify size and structure of aggregates, models and numerical tools for calculating the (light) scattering and hydrodynamic properties of aggregates, and a discussion on van-der-Waals and double layer interactions between aggregates. It is illustrated how such knowledge may significantly enhance the characterisation of colloidal suspensions. The final part of the book refers to the information, ideas and concepts already presented in order to address technical aspects of the preparation of colloidal suspensions—in particular the performance of relevant dispersion techniques and the stability of colloidal suspensions.

Book The Properties of Water and Their Role in Colloidal and Biological Systems

Download or read book The Properties of Water and Their Role in Colloidal and Biological Systems written by Carel J. Van Oss and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2008-11-19 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book also treats the surface properties of apolar and polar molecules, polymers, particles and cells, as well as their mutual interaction energies, when immersed in water, under the influence of the three prevailing non-covalent forces, i.e., Lewis acid-base (AB), Lifshitz-van der Waals (LW) and electrical double layer (EL) interactions. The polar AB interactions, be they attractive or repulsive, typically represent up to 90% of the total interaction energies occurring in water. Thus the addition of AB energies to the LW + EL energies of the classical DLVO theory of energy vs. distance analysis makes this powerful tool (the Extended DLVO theory) applicable to the quantitative study of the stability of particle suspensions in water.-
