Download or read book Encyclopedia of Love in World Religions 2 volumes written by Yudit Kornberg Greenberg and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2007-11-15 with total page 793 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive resource on the subject of love in the teachings of the world's major religions, cultures, and philosophies. Encyclopedia of Love in World Religions is the first reference work to offer a comprehensive portrait of love in the context of the classic and contemporary literature of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism, as well as other cultures and philosophies. Like no volume published to date, it reveals the full richness of religious teachings on love in all its many forms, exploring an extensive range of topics that offer philosophical, psychological, and religious perspectives to guide the quest for the meaning of love. Encyclopedia of Love in World Religions features approximately 300 subject entries, as well as insightful biographic sketches of preeminent thinkers, all written by a multidisciplinary team of some of the foremost scholars on the subject. Entries examine both general and culture-specific interpretations of love: not just the dichotomy of spiritual and physical love, but the full emotional spectrum of love in relationships and practices. Collectively, they encompass love's integral—and sometimes conflicting—role in shaping beliefs and behavior in a vastly diverse world.

Book A Modern Introduction to Madhva Philosophy

Download or read book A Modern Introduction to Madhva Philosophy written by B H Kotabagi and published by Manipal Universal Press. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author has made this treatise on Madhva’s realistic school of Ved?nta philosophy convincing to the modern mind by employing western logical apparatus in substantiating Madhva’s ideas. Following the Indian classical tradition, the author has examined the validity of Advaitaved?nta, the Absolute Monism of ?a?kara and Bh?skara as P?rvapak?a, and logically proved its inconsistencies. He has then established the Dvaitasiddh?nta i.e., the Monotheistic Dualism of Madhva. He has successfully brought out the nuances of the realistic school of Indian philosophical thought in this work. A Modern Introduction to M?dhva Philosophy is Prof B H Kotabagi’s posthumous publication.

Book A Hermeneutical Investigation of Super Primary Meaning in the Dvaita Ved Nta of Madhva

Download or read book A Hermeneutical Investigation of Super Primary Meaning in the Dvaita Ved Nta of Madhva written by IVAN. D'SOUZA and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is an in-depth study on the philosophy of Madhva, the Dvaita VedÄ nta. The Dvaita tradition, which chronologically comes after Advaita and ViÅ>iá1£á1-Ä dvaita, is one of the great VedÄ ntic schools. Madhva was a Hindu philosopher of the 12th century belonging to the Vaiá1£á1+ava tradition, and emphatically established that Viá1£á1+u alone is the focal point of entire Vedic writings by employing an unparalleled hermeneutical technique known as â oeparama-mukhya-vá1>ttiâ (the super-primary meaning) in all his writings. This study unearths this singular concept with the help of Madhvaâ (TM)s commentaries and related Dvaita literature. The book explores Madhvaâ (TM)s method of hermeneutics and exegetical patterns. It focuses on the first chapter of BrahmasÅ«tras and Madhvaâ (TM)s application of parama-mukhya-vá1>tti. It further discusses the hermeneutical issues in some commentaries and independent works of Madhva. The work suggests steps to apply parama-mukhya-vá1>tti to different religious texts, taking into account many Western continental thinkers who strike a chord with the thinking of Madhva. It employs an exegetico-interpretative method, and approaches Madhvaâ (TM)s original writings, particularly the notion of parama-mukhya-vá1>tti, through exegesis, showing its relevance through interpretation. This research will open up wide horizons by providing a new methodology to interpret the sacred texts of any religious traditions. It will also contribute to Madhva scholarship by stimulating scholarly exchanges, discussions and deliberations. Moreover, it will facilitate inter-religious dialogue and understanding, particularly in the multi-religious context of India.
