Book The Petroleum Resources of Indonesia

Download or read book The Petroleum Resources of Indonesia written by Ooi Jin Bee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE quadrupling of oil prices within a few months in late 1973 and early 1974 brought to an abrupt end the era of inexpensive oil. Since then the continuing increases in the price of oil traded in the international market and the higher prices of imports of manu factured goods have seriously disrupted the foreign exchange balances of many developing countries and forced them to replan their development programmes. The impact of high oil prices is felt in every country, whether developed or developing, and has brought to world attention the fact that not only are petroleum resources in limited supply and exhaustible but also that substitutes cannot be found easily or quickly. In a world faced with the certainty of declining supplies of petroleum there is widespread interest and concern among all the oil producing countries to evaluate the extent of their petroleum resources and to examine more closely the problems of their development, rates of depletion and methods of conservation. The present work reviews some of the above issues and problems in relation to Indonesia, an OPEC member, and the major oil producing country in South-East Asia. More specifically, it seeks to provide the reader with an overview of the petroleum resources of the country their nature, extent, distribution as well as the problems of their development.

Book Elements of Petroleum Geology

Download or read book Elements of Petroleum Geology written by Richard C. Selley and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-11-08 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Third Edition of Elements of Petroleum Geology is completely updated and revised to reflect the vast changes in the field since publication of the Second Edition. This book is a usefulprimer for geophysicists, geologists, and petroleum engineers in the oil industry who wish to expand their knowledge beyond their specialized area. It is also an excellent introductory text for a university course in petroleum geoscience. Elements of Petroleum Geology begins with an account of the physical and chemical properties of petroleum, reviewing methods of petroleum exploration and production. These methods include drilling, geophysical exploration techniques, wireline logging, and subsurface geological mapping. After describing the temperatures and pressures of the subsurface environment and the hydrodynamics of connate fluids, Selley examines the generation and migration of petroleum, reservoir rocks and trapping mechanisms, and the habit of petroleum in sedimentary basins. The book contains an account of the composition and formation of tar sands and oil shales, and concludes with a brief review of prospect risk analysis, reserve estimation, and other economic topics. Updates the Second Edition completely Reviews the concepts and methodology of petroleum exploration and production Written by a preeminent petroleum geologist and sedimentologist with decades of petroleum exploration in remote corners of the world Contains information pertinent to geophysicists, geologists, and petroleum reservoir engineers Updated statistics throughout Additional figures to illustrate key points and new developments New information on drilling activity and production methods including crude oil, directional drilling, thermal techniques, and gas plays Added coverage of 3D seismic interpretation New section on pressure compartments New section on hydrocarbon adsorption and absorption in source rocks Coverage of The Orinoco Heavy Oil Belt of Venezuela Updated chapter on unconventional petroleum

Book Offshore Sedimentary Basins of India Geology Tectonics and Hydrocarbon Prospects

Download or read book Offshore Sedimentary Basins of India Geology Tectonics and Hydrocarbon Prospects written by B T. V Seshavataram and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a lucid and well-structured compilation of general technical information on Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir and Production data of offshore sedimentary basins of India. The major hydrocarbon resource potential belongs to offshore sedimentary basins, hence it is quite pertinent to bring out a book on offshore sedimentary basins of India. The author dealt in detail the role of Plate tectonics and northward flight/movement of the Indian plate in the tectonic evolution of continental margins vis-a-vis the formation of Mesozoic Tertiary Pericratonic rift basins along the western and eastern offshore of India. Each offshore basin has been discussed with respect to its geological set up, tectonics, sedimentation history, depositional environment, geochemistry and petroleum habitat in a manner which gives an overall idea of the evolution of Petroleum System of each basin and further exploration thrust required. Hydrocarbon exploration is mainly focused in the new frontier areas i.e., Deep waters worldwide. The discoveries of offshore Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sumatra and comparison of their geological similarity with the offshore basins of India will surely generate special interest to the readers. The chapter on Gas Hydrates and the National Gas Hydrate Programme (NGHP) will evoke new interest in this Unconventional future hydrocarbon Resource. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the offshore Sedimentary Basins of India and their E & P activities which will be quite useful and act as a ready reckoner to the students and persons associated with upstream sector of the hydrocarbon industry.

Book An Outline of the Geology of Indonesia

Download or read book An Outline of the Geology of Indonesia written by Herman Darman and published by Lereng Nusantara . This book was released on 2000 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea to produce this book originated during the "Tectonics and Sedimentation of Indonesia" seminar, the first regional meeting of the Indonesian Sedimentologists Forum (FOSI), the sedimentological commission of IAGI, in 1999. The meeting was conducted to commemorate the 50 years anniversary of the publication of van Bemmelen's book, entitled "Geology of Indonesia" (1949). This was the first book to deal indepth with Indonesian geology at that time. This work was written before the offshore exploration activities and is now out of print. Van Bem-melen's book is a classic of its type that covers onshore geology and some fields of geological en-quiry that have not been superceded by more modern work. In this volume, we have attempted to compile pre-existing publications. Additional recent insights understandings were added to give an up-to-date picture of the geology of Indonesia. It was found that much of geological data have been gathered since the first exploration activity some 150 years ago but was not utilized or even widely known by geologists recently. "An Outline of the Geology of Indonesia" is a compilation of mainly published materials using post van Bemmelen's concept and understanding. We have incorporated facts, ideas, philosophies, and prejudices of many authors; some are quoted and acknowledged; others have been absorbed and blended. These materials have been bound together to gave readers a regional view of Indonesia. Our main problems have been the selection of material and the need to strike a balance between each chapter. The book is far from perfect and ongoing efforts will be made to upgrade the contents of this book. Suggestions and input are most welcome to improve the next edition. The book is organized geographically into fourteen chapters, starting from the West and ended with Irian Jaya. Each chapter covers general geology, stratigraphy, and tectonic history. We have also endeavored to list as many references as possible in order to enable users to explore for themselves the original works.
