Download or read book The Perceived Relationship Between Grit Servant Leadership and Growth Mindset in Public School Administrators written by Dawn E. Lyons and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on grit, growth mindset, and servant leadership theories has found that implementing these theories in school settings can positively impact student achievement. However, a study has not been conducted investigating the combined effects of the three theories. The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive linear relationship of grit (criterion variable), growth mindset (predictor variable), and servant leadership (predictor variable) with school administrators. This study used a quantitative prediction design utilizing the self-report measures of the Grit-S Scale, the Growth Mindset Scale, and the SL-7. Thirty-four principals, 25 assistant principals, and nine elementary interns in a school district in Utah participated in the study for a total of 68 participants. Results from a multiple regression analysis suggested a statistically significant predictive relationship between the variables. Future research recommendations included replicating this study with participants from multiple school districts, using the longer versions of the instruments, and investigating using the mixed-method design with leaders who are self-reported gritty, growth-minded, servant leaders.

Book Identifying Teacher Perceptions of Servant Leadership Influences on Professional Development

Download or read book Identifying Teacher Perceptions of Servant Leadership Influences on Professional Development written by Amy M. Dietzman and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to examine the relationship between principal servant leadership characteristics and engagement in the professional development of teachers in high schools located in a large school district in a southwestern state. Eighty-one high school teachers completed the School Leadership Culture Inventory (SLCI) and the Professional Learning Community Assessment - Revised (PLCA-R) to measure their perceptions of principal servant leadership characteristics and their own engagement, empowerment, and collaboration in professional development. A correlational design was employed to determine relationships between the variables. As hypothesized, servant leadership characteristics were positively correlated to teacher feelings of engagement in professional development, consisting of Shared Personal Practice (r=.502) and Collective Learning and Application (r=.565). In addition, the servant leadership characteristic of Commitment to the Growth of People was positively correlated with Empowerment in Professional Development and the servant leadership characteristic of Building Community was also positively correlated to Collaborative Working Environments (r=.385; r=.518). Results demonstrated that at servant leadership characteristics, as a whole, and the specific characteristics of being committed to the growth of individuals and building community are important emphases for school leaders who want to engage teachers in learning, growing, and changing for school improvement.

Book The Implementation and Impact of Growth Mindset in a North Texas School District

Download or read book The Implementation and Impact of Growth Mindset in a North Texas School District written by Tricia A. Badillo and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth mindset strategies are linked to positive academic behaviors. Additionally, it is common knowledge that a school’s learning environment and the teachers’ attitudes and points of view are influential on student learning. However, leaders of school districts continue to struggle with effecting necessary changes to alter schools’ culture and implement practices that align with growth mindset. One North Texas suburban school district (Coppell Independent School District) is leading a shared effort to ensure growth mindset culture and practices are implemented district-wide. The purpose of this single case study was to understand how district leaders, school leaders, and teachers incorporated growth mindset principles into the culture and educational practices at Coppell and how they perceived the impact of growth mindset. A sample of 15 administrators, leaders, and teachers participated. The results of thematic analysis of semistructured interviews and document analysis revealed mindset is incorporated into the culture and educational practices as revealed through the following themes: (a) leaders and teachers live and support growth mindset; (b) the environment is designed to promote growth; (c) building positive relationships is a priority; (d) valuing growth is promoted through language and communication; (e) failure, struggles, and mistakes are okay; (f) risk and effort are encouraged; and (g) assessment and grading practices emphasize learning. Results of the thematic analysis of interviews and documents on the impact of growth mindset include (a) there is a positive impact of unleashing the potential of individuals and the group and (b) continuous improvement and self-reflection are a result of growth mindset. Recommendations for future research and for school districts considering implementing growth mindset into their culture and educational practices are provided.

Book The Relationship Between Servant Leadership Characteristics on Teachers Sense of Efficacy

Download or read book The Relationship Between Servant Leadership Characteristics on Teachers Sense of Efficacy written by Michelle Dawn Whitman and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was not known to what extent relationships existed between servant leadership characteristics in a suburban Eastern Nebraska school district and teachers' sense of efficacy. The researcher formulated two research questions focused on relationships that may have existed between servant leadership characteristics, teachers' personal teaching efficacy, and teaching efficacy. The researcher, in this quantitative correlational study, collected data through two online surveys using the Servant Leadership Assessment Instrument and the Teacher Efficacy Scale. The sample consisted of faculty and staff employed in a district located in Eastern Nebraska with a total sample size of 210. The researcher focused on the foundational research of Bandura's social cognitive theory, Vygotsky's zone of proximal development, and Greenleaf's servant leadership theory. Bivariate, correlational analyses were conducted by the researcher to determine if relationships existed among the variables. The researcher found a statistically significant inverse relationship between teachers' perception of their leaders' altruism and teachers' perceptions of teaching efficacy in general (r = -.700, p = .036). These findings were not consistent with the literature. One implication is that this study should be replicated to ascertain whether these findings are an anomaly. Another implication is to conduct a qualitative or mixed methods study to gain insight on how the two variables of servant leadership and teachers' level of efficacy may be related. A third implication is to conduct the study in various geographical areas and in K-12 schools. A fourth implication is to conduct a study with a larger sample size and use individual scores as the unit of analysis; this would yield more data and enable regressions and analysis of variance.

Book The Essence of Servant Leadership

Download or read book The Essence of Servant Leadership written by Carol L. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this qualitative study was to gain an understanding of the behaviors of a female servant leader in a public school setting and her impact on the staff and culture of the building. The research questions focused on the leader's description of her leadership practices, the staff perceptions of the leader's behaviors, and her impact on school culture. The findings included a leader who relied on her faith for direction and renewal, built community through staff collaboration, and supported her staff in their professional growth. The staff described the leader as one who used collaborative decision-making, recognized staff strengths and used persuasion to encourage their participation and professional growth, experienced gender bias issues outside her building, and was selfless in her leadership tasks. Finally, the culture of the school supervised by the servant leader was family-oriented, celebrated student and staff successes, and utilized team work for school improvement.

Book Assessing the State of Servant Leadership Teacher Morale and Student Academic Performance Outcomes in a Florida Elementary School District

Download or read book Assessing the State of Servant Leadership Teacher Morale and Student Academic Performance Outcomes in a Florida Elementary School District written by Abdul EL-Amin and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This descriptive research study was conducted to determine the state of perceived teacher morale and student academic performance as measured by fourth-grade reading and math scores among four elementary schools defined by the servant leadership score of each principal in this Florida elementary school district. While related research from other geographical areas was identified and published, the aim of this study was to describe the current state of these variables in the southeastern United States. Four elementary principals and 153 elementary teachers participated in this study. The Revised Servant Leadership Profile 360 survey (RSLP 360) was used to obtain the principals' perceptions of servant leadership based on the criteria from the survey to categorize the four schools as servant or non-servant leadership-led schools, and the Purdue Teacher Opinionaire survey (PTO) was used to collect the teachers' perceptions of morale. Fourth-grade Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) scores in mathematics and reading were retrieved from the Florida Department of Education database and used as the third variable in this study. The intent of this research was not to define relationships between servant leadership, teacher morale, and student test scores, but to describe the extent to which these variables existed based on the perceptions of the survey participants and state test scores for this school district in Florida. The results from this study may be used for future research and practices to further examine the active and potential status of servant leadership, teacher morale, and student academic performance outcomes in PreK-12 education.

The authors examine how successful women in education lead and offer suggestions and ideas for developing and honing these exemplary leadership practices. Women and Educational Leadership shows how the qualities that characterize women's approaches to leadership differ from traditional approaches?whether the traditional leader is a woman or a man. The authors reveal that women leaders are more collaborative by nature and demonstrate a commitment to social justice. They tend to bring an instructional focus to leadership, include spiritual dimensions in their work, and strive for balance between the personal and professional. This important book offers a new model of leadership that shifts away from the traditional heroic notion of leadership to the collective account of leadership that focuses on leadership for a specific purpose—like social justice. The authors include illustrative examples of leaders who have brought diverse groups to work toward common ground. They also show how leadership is a way to facilitate and support the work of organizational members. The ideas and suggestions presented throughout the book can help the next generation fulfill the promise of a new tradition of leadership.
