Book New Approaches to the Book of Mormon

Download or read book New Approaches to the Book of Mormon written by Brent Lee Metcalfe and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Joseph Smith presented the Book of Mormon for sale in early 1830, questions surfaced immediately regarding its claim to be an ancient history of America. In this ten-essay compilation, scholars outline the broad contours of contemporary research bearing on this question. Drawing from a variety of disciplines, contributors discuss historicity from the standpoint of physical and cultural anthropology, geography, linguistics, demographics, literary forms, liturgical context, theology, and evolution of the original manuscript to published work. The message of the Book of Mormon is one of socio-economic equality and divine intervention. That message can be obscured by people who revere it as an icon and prooftext rather than read it for understanding. Furthermore, attempts to make the book safe for Sunday school audiences can gloss over context. Returning to a nineteenth-century understanding restores the book's spiritual rather than symbolic importance. By asking hard questions, contributors modify, even transform, previous theories regarding the nature of LDS scripture. Still, through painstaking research, they share a wealth of fresh perspectives and offer an array of new directions for future investigation.

Book The People of the Bible and the Book of Mormon

Download or read book The People of the Bible and the Book of Mormon written by Michael Jacobazzi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The people who were written about in the Book of Mormon have forgotten and abandoned their Jewish culture, traditions, and customs. From the time they left Jerusalem, they became New Testament Christians in their ways and actions. The Torah and the Book of Mormon are different in their writings. The Torah shows a God who delivered them from slavery in Egypt, and eventually brought them to live in Canaan. They were given laws that would help them in the new land and help them remember God. They had a way of life that centered around the Temple in Jerusalem and sacrificial worship. The Book of Mormon shows a group of people who were from the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh but called themselves Jews. They left Jerusalem at the urging of God, took several years to reach the sea, built a ship, and sailed to the Americas. Upon their arrival, they began living Christian, rather than Jewish, lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the nineteenth century, it was a common belief that Native Americans were the descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. Ethan Smith wrote on this topic, and in so doing, challenged the dismissal of the Indigenous Americans by European settlers. Smith used biblical scripture, similarities in the Hebrew and Native American languages and their name for God, and other points of evidence to prove the connection between Israel and the First Nations. From there he showed how the reunited Hebrew tribes would be restored to Zion before the end of the world. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of Smith's book is that it is said to have influenced the Book of Mormon, which was published about seven years after later. As a child, Smith moved away from religion after his parents died but found his way back before he turned 20 and worked in the ministry until his death. Smith wrote several books while serving in the ministry in which he explored prophecies and baptism, among other subjects. But this book remains one of the most controversial of all his publications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Challenges to the reliability of Scripture are perennial and have frequently been addressed. However, some of these challenges are noticeably more common today, and the topic is currently of particular interest among evangelicals. In this volume, highly regarded biblical scholar Craig Blomberg offers an accessible and nuanced argument for the Bible's reliability in response to the extreme views about Scripture and its authority articulated by both sides of the debate. He believes that a careful analysis of the relevant evidence shows we have reason to be more confident in the Bible than ever before. As he traces his own academic and spiritual journey, Blomberg sketches out the case for confidence in the Bible in spite of various challenges to the trustworthiness of Scripture, offering a positive, informed, and defensible approach.

Book The African Bible

Download or read book The African Bible written by Embaye Melekin and published by Xlibris. This book was released on 2011-04-30 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The African Bible is the record of the Abyssinian prophets who came to Africa from Jerusalem in around 600 BC. The Sabeans (Nephites) and the Agazians (Lamanites) will become the ancestors of the African people. The prophecies of the African Bible have been entirely fulfilled upon Africans, Jews and Gentiles. The Agazians or black Africans were prophesied to dwindle in unbelief as was apparent in the history of the continent. Also, black Africans were prophesied to be scourged, slaved and scattered by the Gentiles, and that was the experience of Africans. The African Bible, the Book of Mormon, was prophesied to be hidden from the African people, until God's own time, and will first be discovered by the Gentiles. Hence, the prophet Joseph Smith translated them into English from the Sabean script and the Mormon Church had them for almost two centuries without knowing the authentic owners of the records. The records were then to be revealed to the African people by one of their descendants, and that is what I am doing now. I have convincingly proven the Book of Mormon to be the record of the African ancestors and is therefore an African Bible. Hence, Africans are the remnants of the house of Israel and descendants of Manasseh.

Book 80 Reasons Why the Book of Mormon Is an African Bible

Download or read book 80 Reasons Why the Book of Mormon Is an African Bible written by Embaye Melekin and published by . This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, I have presented eighty reasons to prove that the Book of Mormon is that of the history of Eritrea and Ethiopia, and its prophecies encompass the entire continent of Africa and the black race in general. I have also successfully identified who the authentic Israelites are in the world. The Book of Mormon contains the ultimate revelations the world has been waiting for many centuries. Its prophecies are incredibly very accurate and reveal the ultimate truths that were hidden from mankind for many centuries. When the Book of Mormons true messages are finally made known to mankind, as I am doing now, the world would marvel at the contents of its records. The perceptions of the white and black races especially would change dramatically. They shall view their relationships with each other from different perspectives when they come to the full knowledge and understanding of the truth contained in the Book of Mormon. The prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon very accurately from its Sabean script. However, the Mormon Church was not expected to know the truth about the valuable contents of the Book of Mormon until Gods own appointed time and did not do so for many decades. I am prophesied in the records of the Book of Mormon to reveal the final truth contained in the book at Gods appointed time, which is now. I am therefore doing the work the Lord designated me for, as prophesied in the Book of Mormon, and I am bringing to revelation the ultimate truths of the records of the book to the African people and our descendants all over the world. The African people and the black race especially are the primary beneficiaries and heirs to the records of the Book of Mormon. However, the truth contained in the Book of Mormon will not only benefit Africans but also the entire human race and especially the Gentiles or the white race.
