Book The Sacred Path Beyond Trauma

Download or read book The Sacred Path Beyond Trauma written by Ellen Macfarland, Ph.D. and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2008-06-03 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Graham Greene’s characters famously said, “I suffer, therefore I am,” suggesting that pain is an inescapable, and perhaps incurable, part of the human condition. But must this be so? Ellen Macfarland argues otherwise in The Sacred Beyond Trauma. Through the use of mythology, stories from film and fiction, real-life examples, and her personal history, Macfarland shows that healing trauma is indeed possible, using rich resources near at hand, in nature. The book explores major symbols of healing nature that can provide an impetus for personal transformation. One of the case studies profiles Monty Roberts, a well-known horse trainer who overcame significant childhood abuse by working with horses and eventually fostering some forty children alongside his own biological family. The key, says Macfarland, is using these and other natural symbols such as yin yang to balance the tension between trauma and numinosity (sacredness, transcendence), resulting in the creation of a new way of being in the world. Understanding this and the book’s other nature-based symbols can turn the distressed mind into a fertile field of spiritual awareness, empowerment, and lifelong growth.

Book excerpt: Beyond the Last Path: A Buchenwald Survivor's Story, first published in 1947, is the chilling account by Eugene Weinstock, a Hungarian Jew who was imprisoned by the Nazis in World War Two at the Buchenwald concentration/extermination camp in Germany. The book is a simply told, yet profoundly moving story of his arrest and imprisonment at the infamous camp, where the cremation ovens operated virtually non-stop. Weinstock attributed his survival, in part, to the strong underground organization within the camp, which helped maintain order and distribute supplies equitably. The book concludes with the liberation of the prison by US troops, at which time Weinstock weighed a mere 80 pounds.

Book excerpt: We are at the cusp of a golden age in space science, as increasingly more entrepreneurs—Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos—are seduced by the commercial potential of human access to space. But Beyond Earth does not offer another wide-eyed technology fantasy: instead, it is grounded not only in the human capacity for invention and the appeal of adventure, but also in the bureaucratic, political, and scientific realities that present obstacles to space travel—realities that have hampered NASA's efforts ever since the Challenger disaster. In Beyond Earth, the authors offer groundbreaking research and argue persuasively that not Mars, but Titan—a moon of Saturn with a nitrogen atmosphere, a weather cycle, and an inexhaustible supply of cheap energy—offers the most realistic, and thrilling, prospect of life without support from Earth.

It's called channelling, but there is no spirit taking over your body or funny stuff like that. So you get spiritual guidance, tailored to your own individual needs, from whomever you like, as often as you like, on a 24/7 basis, and entirely at no cost to you. You can see why it is called The Direct Path to Self Realisation and Beyond! What does the Direct Path require of you? Just a strong desire to achieve your full spiritual potential as a human being. • Author : Bernadette Roberts
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 1991-10-18
  • ISBN : 1438417500
  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book The Path to No Self written by Bernadette Roberts and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1991-10-18 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how, once we have adjusted to the unitive state, the spiritual journey moves on to yet another more final ending. In our major religious traditions, the outstanding milestone in the spiritual journey is the permanent, irreversible transcendence of the self center or ego. The fact that a great deal has been written about the journey to this point means that many people have come this far. But what, we might ask, comes next? Looking ahead we see no path; even in the literature there seems to be nothing beyond an abiding awareness of oneness with God. Had this path been mapped in the literature, then at least we would have known that one existed; but where no such account exists, we assume there is no path and that union of self and God is the final goal to be achieved. The main purpose of The Path to No-Self is to correct this assumption. It verifies that a path beyond union does indeed exist, that the eventual falling away of the unitive state happens as the culmination of a long experiential journey beyond the state. The author shows that a path exists between the transcendence of the ego (self-center), which begins the unitive state, and the later falling away of all self (the true self), which ends the unitive state. As a first hand account, The Path to No-Self will be of interest to those with similar experiences, or those searching for a better understanding of their own spiritual journey. Since the journey is concerned with the effects of grace on human consciousness, the book will be of interest to those psychologists concerned with the transformational process.

Book Breaking Protocol

Download or read book Breaking Protocol written by Bob J. Satawake and published by . This book was released on 2019-07 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2013, Bob J. Satawake accompanied his husband, Ambassador James "Wally" Brewster, to the Dominican Republic for a historic and unnecessarily controversial tour of duty representing the United States. As the first gay diplomatic spouse in the Western Hemisphere, Bob received little, if any, guidance from the U.S. State Department on how to navigate his new role--leaving him little choice but to break the rigid protocols of diplomatic life. He experienced discrimination, homophobia, and outright hostility as he attempted to forge a new path in a conservative and religious country. Bob's amazing and heartwarming story is about a regular guy who found himself catapulted onto the front lines of diplomacy on the world stage, and how he used kindness, love, humility, and diplomacy to overcome hate and intolerance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This complete introduction to the use of modern ray tracing techniques in plasma physics describes the powerful mathematical methods generally applicable to vector wave equations in non-uniform media, and clearly demonstrates the application of these methods to simplify and solve important problems in plasma wave theory. Key analytical concepts are carefully introduced as needed, encouraging the development of a visual intuition for the underlying methodology, with more advanced mathematical concepts succinctly explained in the appendices, and supporting Matlab and Raycon code available online. Covering variational principles, covariant formulations, caustics, tunnelling, mode conversion, weak dissipation, wave emission from coherent sources, incoherent wave fields, and collective wave absorption and emission, all within an accessible framework using standard plasma physics notation, this is an invaluable resource for graduate students and researchers in plasma physics.
