Book excerpt: A Chance to Die is a vibrant portrayal of Amy Carmichael, an Irish missionary and writer who spent fifty-three years in south India without furlough. There she became known as "Amma," or "mother," as she founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a refuge for underprivileged children. Amy's life of obedience and courage stands as a model for all who claim the name of Christ. She was a woman with desires and dreams, faults and fears, who gave her life unconditionally to serve her Master. Bringing Amma to life through inspiring photos and compelling biographical narrative, Elisabeth Elliot urges readers to examine the depths of their own commitment to Christ.

Book The Secret History of the Jesuits

Download or read book The Secret History of the Jesuits written by Edmond Paris and published by Chick Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secrets the Jesuits don't want Christians to know Out of Europe, a voice is heard from the secular world that documents historically the same information told by ex-priests. The author exposes the Vatican's involvement in world politics, intrigues, and the fomenting of wars throughout history. It appears, beyond any doubt, that the Roman Catholic institution is not a Christian church and never was. The poor Roman Catholic people have been betrayed by her and are facing spiritual disaster. Paris shows that Rome is responsible for the two great world wars. Author Edmond Paris explains why he wrote this book... "The public is practically unaware of the overwhelming responsibility carried by the Vatican and its Jesuits in the start of the two world wars -- a situation which may be explained in part by the gigantic finances at the disposition of the Vatican and its Jesuits, giving them power in so many spheres, especially since the last conflict." "In fact, the part they took in those tragic events has hardly been mentioned until the present time, except by apologists eager to disguise it. It is with the aim of rectifying this and establishing the true facts that we present in this and other books the political activity of the Vatican during the contemporary -- activity which mutually concerns the Jesuits." "This study is based on irrefutable archive documents, publications from well-known political personalities, diplomats, ambassadors and eminent writers, most of whom are Catholics, even attested by the imprimatur."

Book Seventh Day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine

Download or read book Seventh Day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine written by George R. Knight and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a completely new typeset of the monumental 1957 classic, containing an extensive historical and theological introduction and detailed in-text notations by George R. Knight. Originally produced by the Ministerial Association of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Questions on Doctrine was widely acclaimed and distributed in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a forthright answer to questions from evangelicals about key elements of Adventist doctrine. Controversy regarding the book's position on the nature of Christ and the atonement soon stopped its circulation. As part of the Adventist Classic Library, Knight's essays provide the background for how the book came about and describes the interaction of the principal players involved in the crisis that shelved this classic work for more than a generation.

Book The Story of the Christian Church in India and Pakistan

Download or read book The Story of the Christian Church in India and Pakistan written by Stephen Neill and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The first European missionaries to India in the thirteenth century discovered to their surprise a flourishing community of Christians, isolated between the mountains and the ocean in southwest India. They are known to this day as the Thomas Christians; legend has it that the Apostle Thomas himself founded the church and become its first martyr. The history of the Christian church in India and Pakistan is a fascinating story. The church has had to fight against Hindu and Musli, antagonism, political and social discrimination, and rivalry among its own denominations. Yet the church has made a significant impact on the subcontinent of India. Its major success has been among people from the lower castes; even today the majority of Indian Christians come from those elements of society. An attempt was made, however, to reach people of all castes through education--and it is in this field that the church has made perhaps its greatest contribution to India as a whole. The schools which were founded to provide an opportunity to present the gospel, and this was a source of new converts. Other schools were established to provide theological training for Indian Christians, enabling them to assume places of leadership in the church. Today Christian schools educate 10 percent of all university students, even through Christians make up less than 3 per cent of the total population. Stephen Neill brings the personalities of the missionary pioneers, martyrs, and the enemies of the church vividly alive, portraying not only their successes but also their failures. He reveals the complexities of the changing political situation which so greatly influenced the church in India, and carries his account forward from the early Church of the Thomas Christians until formation of the great United Church of India, which combined the Anglican, Presbyterian, Congregational, and Methodist churches. He concludes with a discussion of the problems of the church in India and Pakistan today." - Publisher
