Book Organic Chemistry Principles and Industrial Practice

Download or read book Organic Chemistry Principles and Industrial Practice written by Mark M. Green and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-09-19 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Organic Chemistry Principles in Context

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Organic Chemistry Principles in Context: A Story Telling Historical Approach" takes a path that is a radical departure from the way all other textbooks of this subject are written. The principles of organic chemistry are discovered by investigation of the complex phenomena that arise from application of these principles, crossing the spectrum from the academic to the biological to the industrial. All the fundamental principles of organic chemistry normally presented in an undergraduate one year organic chemistry course are found in this book in the context of the stories and the people involved in their discovery. The students who have used this book have found it to be an attractive and effective method of learning organic chemistry. The teachers of the subject have found that the book enhances their own appreciation and love of the subject. The author of the book, Professor Mark M. Green, has organized a free access web site with a link to the answers to all of the problems at the end of every section of the book. In addition this web site, OrganicChemistryPrinciplesinContext.com, has links to explanatory video lectures made by Professor Green for each of the book's twelve chapters.

Download or read book American Organic written by Robin O'Sullivan and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2015-10-12 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1947, when J. I. Rodale, editor of Organic Gardening, declared, "the Revolution has begun," a mere 60,000 readers and a ragtag army of followers rallied to the cause, touting the benefits of food grown with all-natural humus. More than a half century later, organic farming is part of a multi-billion-dollar industry, spreading from the family farm to agricultural conglomerates, and from the supermarket to the farmer's market to the dinner tables of families all across America. In the organic zeitgeist the adage "you are what you eat" truly applies, and this book reveals what the dynamics of organic culture tells us about who we are. Rodale's goal was to improve individuals and the world. American Organics shows how the organic movement has been more successful in the former than the latter, while preserving connections to environmentalism, agrarianism, and nutritional dogma. With the unbiased eye of a cultural historian, Robin O'Sullivan traces the movement from agricultural pioneers in the 1940s to hippies in the 1960s to consumer activists today—from a counter cultural moment to a mainstream concern, with advocates in highbrow culinary circles, agri-business, and mom-and-pop grocery stores. Her approach is holistic, examining intersections of farmers, gardeners, consumers, government regulations, food shipping venues, advertisements, books, grassroots groups, and mega-industries involved in all echelons of the organic food movement. In American Organic we see how organic growing and consumption has been everything from a practical decision, lifestyle choice, and status marker to a political deed, subversive effort, and social philosophy—and how organic production and consumption are entrenched in the lives of all Americans, whether they eat organic food or not.

Book The Principles of Organic Chemistry

Download or read book The Principles of Organic Chemistry written by James Flack Norris and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Organic Chemistry The development which has taken place in organic chemistry since this book was published has made necessary to prepare a new edition. This development has been marked on both the theoretical and the practical sides of the subject. While the advances in the pure science have been largely of such a character that they should not be included in an elementary textbook, the development of industrial organic chemistry. has tended to vitalize the subjects and to be arouse the internet of the beginner As the result of the recent war there was there was an increased demand for a large number of the organic compounds of industrial importance. The search for new methods of preparing the substance on the large scale led to the utilization of reactions which were formerly of theoretical interest only,or to application of were methods such as those of catalysis and electro-chemistry. These new industrial process have been emphasized as fully as is consistent with the scope of the book. The growth of the dyestuff industry in America made it desirable to broaden to some extent the treatment of the aromatic compounds and to include brief descriptions of the more important intermediates and of the sulphur and vat dyes. The increasing use of the organic derivatives of mercury and of arsenic in combating disease made it necessary to introduce and elementary consideration of the general reactions underlying the preparation of such compounds. The renewed interest in the application of organic compounds in warfare has led to the description of the more important war gasses and the new explosives. The consideration of the chemistry of the fats, carbohydrates, and protein has been extended to include the physiological aspects of the subject. The additions to the text in the field of the pure science have been limited in number. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Organic Manifesto

Download or read book Organic Manifesto written by Maria Rodale and published by Rodale Books. This book was released on 2010-03-16 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rodale was founded on the belief that organic gardening is the key to better health both for us and for the planet, and never has this message been more urgent. Now, with Organic Manifesto, Maria Rodale, chairman of Rodale, sheds new light on the state of 21st century farming. She examines the unholy alliances that have formed between the chemical companies that produce fertilizer and genetically altered seeds, the agricultural educational system that is virtually subsidized by those same companies, and the government agencies in thrall to powerful lobbyists, all of which perpetuate dangerous farming practices and deliberate misconceptions about organic farming and foods. Interviews with government officials, doctors, scientists, and farmers from coast to coast bolster her position that chemical-free farming may be the single most effective tool we have to protect our environment and, even more important, our health.
