Throughout, practical aspects aswell as principles are emphasized. The chapters on the synthesis of organomagnesium compounds cover the preparation of special forms of metallic magnesium and the reaction of magnesium with substrates such as dienes, as well as the traditional preparation of Grignard reagents. Preparations by metallation and metal-halogen exchanges are also included, as are newer methods such as hydromagnesiation of alkenes and alkynes. Systematic coverage is provided on synthetically useful reactions of organomagnesium compounds. Of fundamental importance in organic synthesis are carbon-carbon bond forming reactions; additions to carbon-carbon, carbon-nitrogen, carbon-oxygen, and carbon-sulfur multiple bonds; and nucleophilic substitution at carbon. The formation of carbon-heteroatom bonds in organic compounds is described, where the heteroatom is hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, or halogen. Finally, the use of organomagnesium compounds in preparing other organometalloid and organometallic compounds is outlined. Representative experimental procedures are included throughout the book, and tables with references to well-described examples are provided. - Presents a general overview of the constitution and reactivity of organomagnesium compounds - Provides coverage on the detection and estimation of organomagnesium compounds - Emphasizes practical aspects as well as principles - Covers the preparation of special forms of metallic magnesium and the reaction of magnesium with substrates such as dienes - Includes preparations by metallation and metal-halogen exchanges - Reviews new preparation methods such as hydromagnesiation of alkenes and alkynes - Outlines information on synthetically useful reactions of organomagnesium compounds - Describes the formation of carbon-heteroatom bonds in organic compounds - Addresses the use of organomagnesium compounds in preparing other organometalloid and organometallic compounds - Includes representative procedures and tables with references to well-described examples

Download or read book Peroxides Superoxides and Ozonides of Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals written by I. I. Volnov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1930's, Soviet chemists have played a lead ing role in the study of unfamiliar oxidation state compounds of the peroxide, superoxide, and ozonide types. Interest in the alkali and alkaline earth metal derivatives is now widespread and diverse, and numerous practical applications of these com pounds have evolved, ranging from their use as air revitaliza tion materials in space cabins to their use in compounding semiconductor materials. Professor Vol'nov is eminently qualified to write this monograph since for many years he has been a leading investi gator and prolific writer in the field of peroxide, superoxide, and ozonide chemistry. He has succeeded in presenting a lucid and detailed discussion of past work, the present state, and the future potential of this area of unfamiliar oxidation state chemistry. Of particular interest is Professor Vol 'nov's extensive compilation of available thermodynamic, kinetic, and structural data for the alkali and alkaline earth peroxides, superoxides, and ozonides. In addition, he has reviewed the known methods of synthesis, as well as the practical applications for which these compounds are suited. This monograph will be of interest and value to chemists, not only for the information it imparts, but equally for the information it does not impart, thereby illuminating the re search paths and investigation which must be undertaken in order to increase our knowledge concerning the chemistry of this important class of chemical compounds.
Download or read book Inorganic Reactions and Methods The Formation of Bonds to C Si Ge Sn Pb Part 2 written by A. P. Hagen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-17 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time the discipline of modern inorganic chemistry has been systematized according to a plan constructed by a council of editorial advisors and consultants, among them three Nobel laureates (E.O. Fischer, H. Taube and G. Wilkinson). Rather than producing a collection of unrelated review articles, the series creates a framework which reflects the creative potential of this scientific discipline. Thus, it stimulates future development by identifiying areas which are fruitful for further research. The work is indexed in a unique way by a structured system which maximizes its usefulness to the reader. It augments the organization of the work by providing additional routes of access for specific compounds, reactions and other topics.
Download or read book Activated Metals in Organic Synthesis written by P. Cintas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-05-18 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Activated Metals in Organic Synthesis discusses fundamental principles of the generation of activated, highly reactive metals, and their applications in organic synthesis. Following an introductory chapter on basic forms of metals the chapters in Part 1 are devoted to common strategies utilized for the preparation of active metals. These strategies include vaporization and subsequent co-condensation of metal atoms, in addition to depassivating methods employed commonly in laboratory syntheses. Chapters in Part 2 discuss relevant organic transformations in which metal activation plays a crucial role. Specific topics covered include metal-induced reductive methods; pinacolic, Reformatsky-, and Barbier-type reactions; McMurry ketone-olefin coupling; and the Bernet-Vasella reaction. Each chapter is followed by literature citations ranging from specific references to significant reviews. Many structural formulas are provided, making it easy to follow each synthesis. The book will be an important reference for students, organic chemists, and researchers in all areas of organometallic chemistry.
Download or read book Be Organoberyllium Compounds written by Hubert Schmidbaur and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume describes organoberyllium compounds containing at least one berylli um-carbon bond, except the beryllium carbides and cyanides. It covers the literature com pletely to the end of 1986 and includes most of the references up to mid-1987. This Gmelin volume is different from all other volumes of the series on organometallic compounds in that it is dedicated to an area of research which has virtually come to a complete standstill. Organoberyllium chemistry has never been a very popular field, and only few workers have contributed to its slow growth, as is seen by the relatively small number of publications in the field. This very modest development became stagnant in the early 1970's and was followed by a rapid decline. This exceptional fate of a branch of organometallic chemistry is only partly due to the very limited number of potential application~ of beryllium and its compounds. The compounds of this element are, in principle, at least as interesting and intriguing to scientists as those of other metals in the Periodic Table. No doubt the main reason for the apparent ban of all experimental organoberyllium chemistry is to be found in the established, and alleged, hazardous properties of beryllium compounds. Although similar hazards have been established for other organometallics where active research is still in process, e. g. , mercury and lead, these observations were absolutely lethaI for organoberyllium research.
