Beginning in 1883, members of the family began leaving Russia because of the anti-Jewish persecution. Most of the family settled in Duluth, Minnesota, while others settled in Wisconsin. Descendants live in Minnesota, California, Wisconsin and other parts of the United States.

Carl Ross (1913–2004) was a labor activist and the author of The Finn Factor in American Labor, Culture, and Society. He was director of the Twentieth-Century Radicalism in Minnesota Project of the Minnesota Historical Society.
