Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Softcover Edition with Index! Considered by Ratzinger devotees as his greatest work on the Liturgy, this profound and beautifully written treatment of the "great prayer of the Church" will help readers rediscover the Liturgy in all its hidden spiritual wealth and transcendent grandeur as the very center of our Christian life. Among the many liturgical issues that he covers in this work, Cardinal Ratzinger discusses fundamental misunderstandings of the Second Vatican Council's intentions for liturgical renewal, especially the orientation of prayer at the Eucharistic sacrifice, the placement of the tabernacle, and the posture of kneeling. Other important topics he discusses include the following: the essence of worship; Jewish roots and new elements of the Christian Liturgy; the historic and cosmic dimensions of the Liturgy; the relationship of the Liturgy to time and space; art, music, and the Liturgy; active participation of all the faithful; gestures, posture, and vestments. "My purpose here is to assist this renewal of understanding of the Liturgy. Its basic intentions coincide with what Guardini wanted to achieve. The only difference is that I have had to translate what Guardini did at the end of the First World War, in a totally different historical situation, into the context of our present-day questions, hopes, and dangers. Like Guardini, I am not attempting to involve myself with scholarly discussion and research. I am simply offering an aid to the understanding of the faith and to the right way to give the faith its central form of expression in the Liturgy." - Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, from the preface

Book Traditional Latin Mass

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : pages

Download or read book Traditional Latin Mass written by and published by Dr Benno A. Zuiddam. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the traditional Latin Mass in text and translation. An “ordinary” is a basic order of service. It contains the constant elements of the liturgy that are found in a service of Divine worship. This ordinary contains the basic ingredients of the traditional Latin Mass in Roman rite. The Latin text and English translation are printed in two separate columns and a handy table of contents allows you to quickly move to any part of the service. This edition is especially suited to the extraordinary form of Latin Mass (1960/62) that is commonly used in most non-monastic communities. This form was revived under Benedict XVI but technically promulgated by John XXIII during the Second Vatican Council. Just to make sure, in preparing this edition I have carefully compared it with the 1925 text of the Daily Missal. In summary, there are no real changes: this is a shortened version of the Missal that was in use at least since the time of Gregory the Great (c. 540 – 12 March 604), and codified at the Council of Trent (1570). This ordinary is also very helpful for students of classical music, as all classical composers use the text of this book for their Mass settings/compositions, e.g. Mozart’s Masses can be easily followed and understood.

Book The Latin Mass Explained

Download or read book The Latin Mass Explained written by George J. Moorman and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-24 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facsimile of 1920 Edition. Originally published with the title: The Mass: The Eucharistic Service of the Catholic Church... The term "Latin Mass" is frequently used to denote the Tridentine Mass, that is, the Roman Rite liturgy of the Mass celebrated in Latin and in accordance with the successive editions of the Roman Missal published between 1570 and 1962. Neither the Second Vatican Council nor the subsequent revision of the Roman Missal abolished Latin as the liturgical language of the Roman Rite: the official text of the Roman Missal, on which translations into vernacular languages are to be based, continues to be in Latin, and Latin can still be used in the celebration. The author attempts to explain the rituals and symbolism of the Latin Mass in part to explain its mysteries and also to encourage participation. "The Latin Mass Explained made the Traditional Latin Mass really come alive for me. This book helps me tremendously when I explain my love for the Tridentine Mass to both Catholics and non-Catholics. It also helped me impart this love and understanding to my 10-year-old son, who now serves the Latin Mass." --M. Pluta "This book is ideal for priests and lay people who want to learn how to pray the traditional Latin Mass, now called the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite." --Rev. Kenneth Baker, S.J. Homiletic and Pastoral Review "This is a must read for any Catholic especially for those who want to understand the Rite of St. Gregory the Great.....or the Extraordinary Form of the Holy Mass. Classic book, read it, study it, read it again, study it again...and keep for reference." Amazon Reader
