Book The Optimization of Machining Parameters for Milling Operations by Using the Nelder Mead Simplex Method

Download or read book The Optimization of Machining Parameters for Milling Operations by Using the Nelder Mead Simplex Method written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Machining operations need to be optimized to maximize profit for computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Although minimum production time could mean high productivity, it can not guarantee maximum profit rate in CNC milling operations. The possible range of machining parameters is limited by several constraints, such as maximum machine power, surface finish requirements, and maximum cutting force for the stability of milling operations. Among CNC machining parameters, cutting speed and feed have the greatest effect on machining operations. Therefore, cutting speed and feed are considered as main process variables to maximize the profit rate of CNC milling operations. A variety of numerical methods are used to optimize the machining process, such as the genetic algorithm, tabu search method, and ant colony algorithm. In CNC milling operations, an objective function proposed by Tolouei and Bidhendi was used to estimate the profit rate. Tolouei and Bidhendi used the method of feasible direction to maximize the profit rate of CNC milling processes. In this research, the Nelder-Mead simplex method will be tried to maximize the profit rate of CNC milling processes. The Nelder-Mead simplex method was selected to find an optimum value because it can be used when the derivative of a function is unpredictable due to nonlinearity. As such, this method is suitable for problems of statistical estimation.

Book Optimization Of Machining Parameters Non Productive Time For Milling

Download or read book Optimization Of Machining Parameters Non Productive Time For Milling written by Arun Kumar Gupta and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization of a 2.5D milling process is generally considered to be one of the most significant issues for high-speed machining during mass production to amplify productivity and quality of production. Total time spent during 2.5D milling primarily comprises of productive and non-productive time. The productive time, cost and quality of production is highly influenced by machining parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, width of cut (step over), depth of cut, tool diameter etc. Also selection of optimal machining conditions for better machining process efficiency is one of the key factors for this problem. The objective of the present work is to identify and organize the controllable variables such that there is minimum effect of uncontrollable or noise variables on the process performance. The machining processes which maintain balance between cost and quality of production are presumed to be efficient. The movements of tool are synchronized with the help of automatically generated CNC codes. In the present work an attempt also been made on minimization of non-productive time by synchronizing cutting tool movements for malti pockets job problems.

Book Optimization of MacHining Parameters for Ball End Milling

Download or read book Optimization of MacHining Parameters for Ball End Milling written by Jackson G. Njiri and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work describes the optimization process for ball-end milling of sculptured surfaces such as those encountered in dies/moulds and aircraft structural components. Since cutting forces are the main factors governing machining accuracy, machine tool vibration, power requirements and tool life, a comprehensive methodology of modelling, analysis and control of cutting forces is outlined. Due to complexity and vagueness of manufacturing process, fuzzy logic controller is employed to vary cutting parameters in real-time during manufacturing process depending on the emanating cutting forces. The control scheme aims at maximizing on the material removal rate and at the same time reducing on the rate at which the tool wears out. Also the need to have a constant machine operator to supervise the machining process is elimintated.

Book Advances in Hard to Cut Materials

Download or read book Advances in Hard to Cut Materials written by Grzegorz M. Królczyk and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of modern industry has resulted in a growing demand for construction materials with excellent operational properties. However, the improved features of these materials can significantly hinder their manufacture and, therefore, they can be defined as hard-to-cut. The main difficulties during the manufacturing/processing of hard-to-cut materials are attributed especially to their high hardness and abrasion resistance, high strength at room or elevated temperatures, increased thermal conductivity, as well as resistance to oxidation and corrosion. Nowadays, the group of hard-to-cut materials is extensive and still expanding, which is attributed to the development of a novel manufacturing techniques (e.g., additive technologies). Currently, the group of hard-to-cut materials mainly includes hardened and stainless steels, titanium, cobalt and nickel alloys, composites, ceramics, as well as the hard clads fabricated by additive techniques. This Special Issue, “Advances in Hard-to-Cut Materials: Manufacturing, Properties, Process Mechanics and Evaluation of Surface Integrity”, provides the collection of research papers regarding the various problems correlated with hard-to-cut materials. The analysis of these studies reveals the primary directions regarding the developments in manufacturing methods, characterization, and optimization of hard-to-cut materials.

Book Optimization of Process Parameters in Vertical CNC Mill Machines Using Taguchi s Design of Experiments

Download or read book Optimization of Process Parameters in Vertical CNC Mill Machines Using Taguchi s Design of Experiments written by D. G. Mahto and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the more precise demands of modern engineering products, the control of surface texture together with dimensional accuracy has become more important. This paper outlines the Taguchi optimization methodology, which is applied to optimize cutting parameters in end milling operation. The study was conducted in machining operation in hardened steel DIN GX40CRMOV5-1. The processing of the job was done by TiN coated carbide inserted end-mill tool under semi-finishing and finishing conditions of high-speed cutting. The milling parameters evaluated were cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The experiments were conducted by using L-27 (313) orthogonal array as suggested by Taguchi. Signal-toNoise (S/N) ratio and Pareto Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) are employed to analyze the effect of milling parameters on surface roughness. Main effects of process parameters on the quality characteristics have been analyzed. The results show that the optimum parameters of machining by CNC Milling Machine for specified hardened steel material DIN GX40CRMOV5-1 is obtained at a cutting speed of 355m/min, feed rate 0.1mm per tooth and depth of cut 0.5mm.
