Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one--as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me" (John 17:20-21, NLT). For most Christians these words of Jesus seem like an unreachable ideal. Or they promise spiritual unity without a visible demonstration between real people. Some even read these words with a sense of fear seeing this text used for a compromise agenda. How should we understand this prayer offered for all who follow Jesus? What if Jesus really intended for the world to "believe" the gospel on the basis of looking at Christians who live deep unity in a shared relationship with him? What if there is way of understanding what Jesus desired so that we can begin anew to tear down the many walls of division that keep the world from seeing God's love in us? Is our oneness much bigger and deeper than we could imagine? John Armstrong has devoted three decades to the work of Christian unity. His story and ministry have encouraged many around the world and now they are reflected in this memoir of a life devoted to unity.

Book excerpt: Exploring Unity as a Fruit of the Gospel Christians most effectively serve others and advance God's kingdom when they are in biblical unity with one another. Unfortunately, modern Christians seem to be divided on countless issues related to ministry, culture, the church, and even unity itself. Some prioritize organizational unity over gospel truth, while others only seek unity with those who share their same doctrinal beliefs. In this short, accessible guide, author Conrad Mbewe explores unity as a fruit of the gospel. He finds that biblical unity is only achieved after understanding what God has done through Christ and how it is continuously executed by the Holy Spirit. This biblically centered book encourages readers to respond to Paul's apostolic plea of "standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel" (Phil. 1:27), embracing unity as a valuable, God-given blessing. Encourages Unity: Explores unity as a fruit of the gospel that is only understood through what God has done through Christ and executed by the Holy Spirit Practical Study: This concise guide encourages Christians to stand firm in the spirit and in unity with others A Part of the Growing Gospel Integrity Series: Created in partnership with Union School of Theology

Book THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Download or read book THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT written by Terry Swift and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-17 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third book by the author. This book, The Unity of the Holy Spirit, is very unique in the author’s approach. He uses what he observes in 1 John to discover a key to recognizing and achieving unity and fellowship. That key in 1 John revolves around “all or none” type statements. What do those statements tell us? Like John’s theme in his letter, it answers the question – “How do you know you have fellowship with the Father and with the Son?” These “all or none” statements of John tell us one is either “in or they are out,” “in fellowship or not,” “you know God or you do not,” “you are saved or you are not.” In the statements of John, there is no middle ground. For example, John says “Except you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.” He says – “He who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” This author proposes these various “all or none” type statements throughout the New Testament are the basis of what Christians must agree on. These statements are revealed truth that we must stand on. There is no compromise with these and be a Christian. The author also addresses “issues” that divide churches. He proposes that we do not have to agree on “disputable matters,” Rom.14:1. These “issues”, though they have divided Christians for hundreds of years into over four hundred denominations, are not necessary to divide over, and it destroys the unity and effectiveness of Christians. These disputable “issues” that Paul speaks of and many more the churches divide over are a matter of individual growth and understanding in one’s Christian journey of faith. We should not “Lord it over another’s faith.” “To his master he stands or falls.” We all need time to grow and understand things throughout life. Some of these “issues” can be very serious, and sometimes can rise to the level of a need for church discipline. But, for the most part, we should not stand as judges over our brothers because we disagree over an issue. Nor should we part ways. Christians are to help each other, be patient with each other and longsuffering. Finally, there are several chapters in the book that address several aspects of unity - the attitudes and qualities that help produce unity, those who cause disunity, approaches to unity, and what is true unity and what is not. These and more are topics addressed in the book. The book is written to give churches a practical and scriptural way to approach unity. It is very different from the many creeds, church rules, and traditions that are offered as the approach to unity of churches. Churches offer a very legalistic approach that demands conformity to their beliefs to be a member, to teach or to lead in their church. Such an approach demands conformity to a particular denomination’s views and following their creeds, rather than allowing the Spirit to help the individual Christian grow and learn God's will. The growth and beliefs of individual Christians have been hi-jacked by the various well-meaning but biased denominations. This new book is very challenging to the traditions and approaches of denominations. Unity is not realized by them. They are divisions of believers that cannot fellowship each other, nor can they work together. It is time for a fresh look in how to bring Christians back together and how to work together. This is the book for those who want true unity with our brothers.

Book excerpt: This book starts by establishing that all believers in Christ are already, in fact, one with each other in Christ. This leaves us with the challenge, not of creating unity where it does not exist, but of living consistently with the oneness that already exists. The first section explains why living consistently with our oneness is important, including God’s commands and expectations, the benefits of living in oneness and the hazards of living contrary to the truth. Part two explains what oneness is and is not, including the concepts that oneness is a harmony of diverse believers each doing their own part, not unison, unanimity or strict conformity to the same mold. The third section deals with practical barriers to living in oneness—selfishness, misunderstandings, heresy, and incorrect understanding of the origin of the organizational divisions in the universal Church—and suggests how to overcome them.

I highly recommend this book.” –Pastor Stan Nixon, Hartselle, Alabama “UNITY It’s Every Christian’s Call fully illustrates how the power of unity between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit should function throughout the body of Christ. Kevin masterfully pulls together all the aspects of biblical unity that are needed to bring souls into the kingdom. I highly recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in fulfilling God’s plan for their life.” –Terrence Kinney, Former pastor-Better Life Community Church, Cottondale Texas “The pursuit of unity has exploded worldwide...Thank the Lord for Kevin Almond’s clear call for genuine Christian unity available only as we humble ourselves in pursuit of the fullness of Truth only found in Christ alone. To that cause Kevin has given his life.” –Charles Crismier, Attorney and Author Founder – SAVE AMERICA Ministries Radio Host – VIEWPOINT “I’ve known Kevin for over 30 yrs. He’ll help other churches any way he can to bring unity in the body of Christ. I’ve witnessed this time and time again...UNITY It’s Every Christian’s Call is a good book. Kevin breaks it down real simple to understand.” –Pastor Hank Parker, Grace Alive Outreach Church Midlothian VA. “There is much to glean from Kevin’s book, starting with the Introduction...Many in today’s “Church” believe that “unity in the Church” means compromising what God says with what “culture” says. This book stays focused on what the Bible says, not what the world says. UNITY It’s Every Christian’s Call is great for an in-home or Bible study group.” –Donald N. Blake, Chairman and President Virginia Christian Alliance
